Ambernath in Thane district of Maharashtra is the ancient carpet Shiva temple. It was known as Amranath, it is called Ambarnath from Apabhramsh.
Chittaraja of the Shilahar dynasty, who ruled northern Konkan, started the construction of this temple during the period from 1022 to 35 AD. The construction of this temple was completed in 1060-61 during the reign of Mamvani Raja, the younger brother of Chittaraja.
The ancient Shiva temple of Ambernath is adorned with idols. Sculptures of various gods and goddesses have been made on the mandapa's niches, halls and pillars. There is a water stream right next to this temple. This stream is called the Valdhuni river stream.
