POV Review of a 2011 987.2 Boxster Spyder. Manual, bucket seats, AC and Radio delete. What is it like to drive the essence of Porsche - lightweight, naturally aspirated, looks, manual, small size, driver focused, no tricks, and just fun? Come along for a fun ride as I tell you the do's and don’ts about this wonderful machine.
Is there a better RWD manual, mid-engine, carbon bucket seat sports car?
Sorry for the awkward driving, had my seat 6" further back than normal to get a better POV angle.
Finally a good showcase of the 987.2 3.4 platform. You can tune them all according to your preferences - S, R or Spyder. One thing to point out is that the car is relentless, it’s a machine built for beating. Feels a bit like a bike due to small size and sound. I agree that it’s the perfect power, won’t kill you. At some point you have a feeling like there is a true motor sport going on behind the wheel. Thanks for the video!
Got my 987.2 Boxster S in 6 speed manual transmission. It is amazing.
exhaust note is 👌
Thank you bro!
I brought the car into an auto car wash once and panicked as water start spraying through my windows under the BRA cover.. luckily I have a towel inside the car 😂😂. What a car. My most fun car ever.
the roof only comes on to wash the car :D
That's a funny story though! Thank you for sharing
You should do more driving videos, cause they are really entertaining. 😊
More coming!

please, DO MORE of these videos ❤
We need a video of the footwell showing off your heel toe skills!
Happy for you brother! What a car and you definitely drive it well. And for the price! You're my kind of guy. All the best :)
The car get used, everyday. Freaking love that
Every day!! All four seasons too. I just stand clear of the snow :)
Stay safe brotha! This car looks like a riot
Thank you 🫡. Car is an absolute blast for the back roads.
This seems like everything i love about my roadster in a fast Porsche. Love it! Great driving too.
Thank you. It’s the best car I’ve driven for the backroads
When you downshift do you rev it then catch by dropping the clutch??? You got some Aggressive and clean downshifts man my goodness… also after I saw your mechanical engineering video I’ve been on a binge, keep up the sick work bro
Dude, that getting sideways may not be what you want to do. Looks scary in both instances. Beautiful car man. Enjoy it in good health!
Thanks! I had my seat about 5" further back than normal for a good camera position POV. Felt otherworldly to drive so far back from the wheel. But, wanted to put something out there. Thanks for the feedback!
@Dascayman
Try the 2016 boxster spyder.
I went from 2012 spyder to 2016 spyder, to a 2022 4.0 Gts.
Miss that fucking 2016 all the time. The engine sound alone my dude😍😍😍
It’s perfection really
Couldn’t think of a better backroad weekend car
location of clutch is right under the steering column which I can't live with it. So I selected 987 3.4s mk2 PDK model for my collection. Driving pleasure of 987 is just spot on for me as well!
I just love your video !!
Thanks for it !
What is the exhaust setup on it ? It sounds so good
Thank you! Stock mufflers, just catless headers. Really love it. No complaints.
@@DasCayman thats so nice !
Im thinking about changing from a 981 GTS to this one. And youe video just convinced me !
Which brand are the headers then ? I want this exact same sound !
@@gabriels9977 they are Fabspeed catless headers. SOUL probably makes some too. Make sure you get manual and bucket seats with the PSE!
@@DasCayman of course ! Thanks !
Hey! Wanted to follow up on this! ua-cam.com/video/RSX_KsU9y64/v-deo.html
Had a 987.1 boxster S before but found it a little boring, your Spyder seems like a different animal, lovely sounds!
the 987.2 Spyder is worth revisting. It's a micro topless GT3. Couldn't be happier.
this car and how you drive it is fucking amazing i swear thanks
Incredible for sure
I’m sold!!!
I’ve never regretted it!
One of the few cars you can hear screaming at you to give more, More, MORE!!!!!!!
The best part is that when you do finally hit 10/10ths, although you're still going super fast. It's not lightspeed. But it'll feel lightspeed!
bro i’m so drunk i want this car so bad more importantly i wanna learn to drive a rwd car as well as you do. subie guy so im used to awd even though i have same hp as you. yours is NA tho so no turbo lag. love porsche. gg
Love it! I have a 987.2 Black Edition, sort of the Spyder with a roof (same power and light wheels) just missing those bucket seats and the gorgeous styling. How much louder is it than stock with PSE valves closed? I’m interested in adding headers but I drive mine a lot and don’t want it to be obnoxiously loud!
Does your car have PSE? If not it will be loud
Yeah it does have PSE, sounds not super loud but definitely vocal. If I can get this level of howl/ scream while also being able to keep it quiet when I want to, that would be perfection! What headers did you have fitted?@@DasCayman
Absolutely love this. The car, the road, and especially the echo through the trees at @12:12
Is your muffler valved or do you have a dump valve before the muffler?
Super common question that will be addressed in an upcoming video :)
Exhaust OEM ?... Very nice sound !.
ua-cam.com/video/RSX_KsU9y64/v-deo.html
@@DasCayman Ok. Thank you.
I know its not the point, but can you make a video on what its like to drive some distance with the roof up? Thanks
Roof up is great, there is actually a video of that on the channel.
I love you describe this car as 'the tits' ... meets with my approval as a Brit !!
It literally is the tits!!
Talk about "drive it like you stole it"! Imagine owning one of these and not driving it because you're afraid that it will loose value? I saw one (Triple Black) at a local cars and coffee with under 10K miles and just laughed under my breadth at the owner for being a total poser, he's probably never driven it with PSM off. Great car, great driving location (free track day roads) just please watch out for my fellow cyclists.
Thank you so much! I can tell you “get it.” Very red pill. I only drive these cars before the cyclist come out on the roads. We all have a mutual respect and happiness for one another. Sharing the road 🤙🏻
4:59 👌👌
Easier to slide cold tires 😁
4:59 DUDE!
lmao that was a spicy moment. Could have left it out, but wanted to keep it in.
Hahahaa you've got that barcode license plate. Everytime I see that I know the driver is a maniac
I like to call it a controlled exhibition :)
Just learning about the boxster spyder thanks to you! is the top manually operated like the ones as well? the trunk lid looks so crazy like a baby 918 or something
Yes it is! It's fully manual, and a little Easter egg is that it's made of carbon fiber. Really cool, especially for a 2011 delivery year from Porsche... I call it my mini CGT. Love it.
Could be the brother to my 2012. I have the LWB's, 6M, Radio, Sport Shift, but no A/C or PSE. Same color unless yours is Artic Silver and not Platinum Silver like mine. I knew back in '18 when I drove 5 minutes, I would never sell it. I have found many owners who say the same even started a Facebook group for us, the minority, but smarter 987.2 Spyder owners. I would never sell it. It is everything you said it is and more. I paid just over 50k and have seen them for much more since. Can you give a bit more detail to the exhaust you have, is it stock PSE or a company I couldn't understand you said?

all you're missing is some coco-mats and it will be perfect
They offered coca brown leather interior for free as an option on this gen...
Hey man, here in Europe at the moment prices of a manual 987 Spyder are almost at the level of a 981 GT4. Which one would you chose? Thanks!
If it’s your only Porsche I’d go with the GT4. The 981 comes with a lot of nice modern amenities. My 987 is spec’d to be very raw and the most focused and engaging. Having it be a convertible takes some of the “seriousness” out of the drive and adds more fun / laugh factor. When I drive the 4RS it’s too focused and easy to go 150mph everywhere on backroads…. Which… is insane… so it’s why I prefer the 987 Spyder. The 981 GT4 is an amazing car. I’ve had a lot of seat time in one and it’s a one-car Porsche that will scratch a lot of itches.
Thank you for your answer, super appreciated! It seems that your Spyder (probability suspension and geo mods hep here) has great handling balance, I especially enjoy the on command loose rear end. I imagine a GT4 would be more serious and less “slide-able”? Is it car specific or I could achieve a similar balance with a GT4?
You'll definitely be able to slide the GT4. GT4 is great as a stock car. I modded my Spyder to make what was the beginning of something great, into something great. 2800lbs and now 350HP, same interior as the 3RS, manual, bucket seats, AC delete, radio delete, RWD, 6 speed manual. The suspension on the car really turned it up to making it extremely responsive (since it's a convertible). I just added a lightweight flywheel... and I think you'll REALLY enjoy this video. Cheers! ua-cam.com/video/o4peLanjAvk/v-deo.html@@giovannig4369
Quick question: why so much caster?
Helps with catching slides and track-style driving.
Is there any reason you chose the 987.2 Boxster over the Cayman?
I also have a Cayman lol
4RS too, and 911. I prefer the Spyder the most for non-track use. It's just the most fun you can have. Same reason why I chose a Tuono V4 Factory over an RSV4 Factory Aprilia
@@DasCayman I’m purchasing a GT350, but always wanted to jump into Porsche. Strictly street driving, occasional track. You’re making me second guess my choice with the 987.2… And the Tuono’s are brilliant, loved mine. I race an 890 Duke and an R6 nowadays.
Dude you HAVE to get in a Porsche if that's what you're considering... let me link you another vid to sell you the sauce. I'm currently uploading a video that goes over my lightweight flywheel on the Spyder. I'll tag you when it's ready. You're gonna geek.@@JellyBeak
Hi could i know your exhaust configuration? Thank you
Stock mufflers with the PSE and catless headers.
Hey! Wanted to follow up on this! ua-cam.com/video/RSX_KsU9y64/v-deo.html
Does this autoblip on the downshifts?
There is no autoblip on this car
do you have a special engine on ?
It’s stock, why?
Some day....)))
this was 50k usd..?
Yes
@@DasCayman I watched a few of your vids and absolutely love this car for what it is, but its way out of my budget 😄Im looking at a 3.4L 2011 boxster s, price seems reasonable. Could you comment, or perhaps make a video on how this and yours compare? How big is the gap, can you make the S as enjoyable as this, etc. ?
What HWY are you on?
The highway to hell
@@DasCayman lol
For the love of god, don't drive around with one hand on the gear lever all the time!
Why is that
@@DasCayman Because it limits your connection to the steering > car, which is a particular pity in a car with great steering, and compromises your car control a bit. It also makes the driver look a teensy bit like a clueless wannabe gangster and basically telegraphs "I can't drive", though I grant that is an aesthetic concern. TL;DR: It's just piss poor technique.
@@DasCayman Some say that it also puts a bit of unwanted pressure where it shouldn't be and can lead to unnecessary wear similar to "ridding the clutch".
Yep, my Saab and Audi manual specifically stated it can cause wear on the transmission synchros. 981 Spyder here.
@@flat6croc if I need to make a steering correction I use two hands. If I’m just cruising along at my leisure, I use one hand
