    Good to see you back👍 pulled mine out the garage the other day and ran it up to temp whilst I was messing around in the garage! After about 15mins car is up to temp and I suddenly hear the engine note change! I’ve just lost a cylinder and then a thousand thoughts of terror ran through my mind! ( it’s bizarre how all the horror stories of these cars effect your mindset). Get in the car engine check light reduced power!
    Scan the codes: Misfire with engine cut off cylinder 6!
    Restart car engine still rough can smell unburnt fuel! Up pops engine light again! Turn off. Now thinking best case: ignition coil - spark plug- worst case: injector is stuck wide open.
    Injector and spark plug both only a few 1000 miles old,so hanging onto happy thought of most likely the ignition coil as original and 19 years old!
    Luckily I have a spare brand new Bremi in my parts collection so no need to swap coils around and its cylinder 6 so relatively easy to access!
    Swapped out and all is good again.
    Lucky it happened on my Driveway I guess rather than out and about! It still bizarre to hear a component just give out! One last spark and gone. She did well and has given numerous hours of V10 noise to the world💔😁

      Nice one Duncs, easy fix! Not often you hear a cylinder dropping coil fail live while idling.
      Good you’ve already sorted your injectors.
      I used to always keep a spare ignition coil in the boot of my M5, as it’s not uncommon for them to fail at this age, but I’ve used them all now 🤷🏻‍♂️ You’ve just reminded me to organise another spare. I’ve never been game enough to splash out on all 10 at once!

      That’s the first one I’ve had go to be fair! I replaced 5 & 10 when I did the spark plugs! Just cause I knew they would be the most difficult to get at! So I now have 3 Bremi’s the rest are all original stamped 2005! I picked up 4 a few years ago fairly cheap and just picked up another 4 for £37 each in an autodoc sale! I have read to avoid certain auction sites as there is meant to be fakes out there! So have stuck to known suppliers and just keep an eye out for sales.

    Still driving mine, at 207k miles (334k km) on original engine. I remember fixing all these items lol

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Місяць тому +1

      334k Km’s, that’s big Km’s man, you must being doing a good job of looking after the car. Just goes to show they are pretty solid. Have you had any major repairs in that time?

    • @321-shift
      @321-shift Місяць тому +2

      Only major repairs were not the car’s fault (transmission replacement due to previous owner installing an aftermarket clutch incorrectly). I did most other major repairs preventatively. Just warm it up and then drive it hard!

      @MTechGuy  Місяць тому

      @@321-shift Nice. What you described there sums up best way to own these cars I reckon- Preventive maintenance, warm it up and drive it hard 👍

      No worries. Super common problem, easy job but just watch the plastic clips on the upper seat trim & the gear cover, they like to break easily now these cars are getting older ua-cam.com/video/F5qIw84TOpU/v-deo.html

    I'm very afraid of having a fatal problem with mine. But I remain confident in taking care of this jewel. After that Clarkson program badmouthing the M5, the market mistakenly began to devalue it. But I'm sure that in the future they will give due value to this trophy of human engineering.

    BMWs continue to have a brand status totally at odds with their shitty build quality, reliability, and cost of running one.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  2 місяці тому

      If that was true, this car wouldn’t still be going strong after almost 20 years

      @minorityofone1510 Well I’ve run BMW’s for more than 20 years now and they’ve been totally reliable and no more expensive to maintain than any other cars. You keep on believing the stories that you read, which are mostly written by people that have never owned one.
