The Battle tech lore is really good and deep. If you guys want to go indepth with it I recommend starting with the Blood of Kerensky Trilogy by Michael A Stackpole
Issue being using "premade" decks and using those for that important first impression. Combat has a bit more depth with the correct cards & combos- that comes from building your own deck. (That premade House Steiner deck did not have (shock :) ) their better mechs such as the Gunslinger.)
