We'll never be able to just throw our Ps3 discs in a ps5 and play. Ps3 has unique hardware. The best anyone can hope for is digital only on whatever titles Sony decide, and even then you'll probably have to have the premium monthly subscription to even do it. It's all about the $$$, customer satisfaction will be thrown to the wind as usual as is typical in this day and age. I know that's a really pessimistic point of view, but arguably realistic?
Absolutely, they're working on an emulator because their PS3 racks for PS+ Premium will eventually die. They're just looking for an alternative to streaming, there's no way they're going to let people use it outside of the service, whether it's for physical or digital games, that's just lost money for them at the moment when they clearly want the reliable income subscriptions provide.
The problem is Xbox did it for a little while and there aren't many games support plus they did stop working on it. Unfortunately it didn't last long and if it's similar on the PS5 side, I could see it having less support which is sad
The cell architecture of the PS3 is not backwards compatible with the PS5, RPCS3, the PS3 emulator on PC requires an AVX512 cpu which is only present in Zen 4 and Raptor Lake processors, the Zen2 cpu in the PS5 can't handle that
AVX512 support is definitely not a requirement. CPUs without it run RPCS3 just fine. Regardless, whatever requirements a community-made emulator has will likely differ from an official Sony developed emulator.
PS3 games can be run on PC via RPCS3 so that tells us that the cell processor stuff isn't that difficult to run on another machine. Seemed to have been more of a marketing term. Devices now are more PC than they have ever been before
Unless you have a sizeable catalog of physical PS3 games lying around, or you really want to play that rare game that came out only on the PS3, i dont see the point why most of us should get excited about this ... I remember playing some very nice games like the Yakuza series, or the Uncharted games, The Last of Us, and whatnot, on the PS3, but, by now most of those got re-mastered or re-made anyway, either on the PS4 or PS5.
If this is real or made available to the public it would be for a very niche audience because like you said most games are playable elsewhere and thinking of games that aren't in that category is tougher than most would think. Stuff like MotorStorm, Infamous, White Knight Chronicles are all good examples of not the first thing people would think of
I hope this is legit. Cause I go back to play my James Bond Games and Max Payne 3 on my ps3. I always wished they would have a compatible on the PS5 for those games especially Max Payne 3
@@jgamindood5769 it's RPCS3, also many of them don't run very well yet or they require a powerful PC. I could barely complete Ratchet & Clank Into the Nexus, it was full of frame drops, frequent crashes and poor performance in general.
Oh dude if that happens I'll sell my PS3! My plan was to upgrade to PS5, sell my PS4 but still keep the PS2 and PS3 due to lack of backwards compatibility.
I won"t be getting rid of my PS3 or PS2 because there is nothing like playing a game on the hardware it was created for which is why my PSP and PSVita are in my drawer for when I go out to do stuff. Ideally I hope these consoles last until I'm 6 feet under but that's being hopeful I guess
Same here. There are still plenty of ps3 games that are only running on ps3, not even on psn or in an emulator. Motor storm 1 & 2 (yeah the good ones), mgs4, pain, railfan....

It'll most likely be done digitally, not sure who thought PS3 disks would be involved. Sony doesn't have it in them to do something like that.
