  • Celebrating the centenary of the Hemyock Calf Club, which was started in 1921 and was the forerunner of the National Young Farmers movement, this years extraordinary parade was full of calves, calves and more calves along with the obligatory farm dog and a gigantic farmer carrying .... yes .... a calf, all made of willow-cane and tissue paper, with lights inside.
Each of the 19 calves bore the name of the farms where the original Calf-Club children had reared their shorthorn charges, 'Shuttleton', Frys Farm, Millhayes, Crockers, Sidwells, Culm Pyne......
Finishing in the churchyard the whole spectacle concluded with another Tim Martin film special, culminating in our wonderful 'Daisy' the cow jumping over the moon to the music of 'Hey Diddle Diddle, the Cat and the Fiddle, these two then climbing to the church tower to light up the huge star.
After almost two years of Covid restrictions and cancelled events Hemyock came alive for the 2021 Lights Brigade Parade. It was totally fantastic.
