if the customer says mow the hill and doesnt request for plants to be saved, then their gonna mow it down... not shawns fault hes doing what hes paid to do.
My personal preference on those type of hills is to cut diagonally always mowing toward the least steepest side. The difference is I use a sit down mower because of knee and back issues. Because it is a sit on mower the center of gravity is slightly lower. These kind of hills where the Ventrac really shines.
So I take it that you charged this person double for the first time and then less there after, such as $75 for the first time and then $40 there after.
Comes down to knowing your machine and your skill set and learning your properties I’ve cut some real sketchy hills in my time and I’ll never turn facing down a hill always turn up the hill even if u start at the top and work down if u turn down a steep hill your going to slide to the bottom or into the woods a fence etc also want to point out the safety switches yours on the toro are in the handles u can also flip platform up and use as a walk behind can’t do that on a wright stander or similar style standon a true walk behind like an exmark turf tracer will hold most hills can also get them unstuck with minimal effort vs a 60” zero turn
Why not side hill? I'm just curious. I side hill most everything. With the grandstands, you can go downhill a little better because the weight of the operator is behind the machine. Going uphill with them is fairly pointless as the front wheels will bounce around, if not completely lift. Anyways, just curious as to the 45
Wow, Shawn , that was very informative. After seeing this, it's very apparent to me that the front of the Stand on mowers are more lightweight than i realized! It's a totally different thing with the exmark laser z Xseries 60s with tweels. They are a whole lot heavier in the front, and the operator is more on the center of the mower instead of the very rear. I have never owned a stand on mower. I have had walk behinds. I have ran a stand on quiet a few times. I do agree every site is different and to use safe common sense.
Here’s the deal. I run Grandstands as well. I like that the engine is out front, rather than in the back like a sit down ZT. There’s a lot more weight out front, keeping your front tires more secure to the ground. If you go up a hill and all the weight is in the back (sit down ZT), and those front tires starts going up, you better pray. Been there, done that, never again. It could have easily ended my life. It really comes down to knowing your mower and being comfortable, always being one step ahead and knowing your surroundings and having a plan in case things go south. Also one of the many reasons I run stand ons. Sit down ZT’s don’t give too many options if things go south - literally.
I had a friend of a friend try to drive a smaller riding mower onto a pick up truck bed using wood planks. I heard the mower rolled off the planks and into a ditch and I heard the 50 year old guy almost got killed. I guess he was OK, but it was a very close call for Grampa!
My ztrak has a seat belt and a rollbar and I could have done that zippity do dah lol I cut at 2 inches. I'm not in it for the cash I actually bless people who are hurting financially.
Great tutorial Shawn. That hill looked and sounded pretty thick up top. I like the challenge of places like that and the satisfaction of getting it done and seeing the before and after results. Awesome job. Y’all be safe careful and keep up the great work. Bruce in Wv!!!
That yard could use a lot of lime overseeding and some fertilizer even some black dirt , when get lime look at the square footage coverage cheap lime may be good deal but look at the difference in square footage , lime can be one of the best things for a yard , as well as good fertilizer the right fertilizer could be greener . But cutting it will help nice work
Hey Shawn Thanks for the safety demo My grandpa died of cancer over 20 years ago My grandma told me a story Grandpa Grandpa was a was mowing a steep hill on a lawn tractor the hill was so steep It did a wheelie He seen the lawn tractor coming his way he kicked the back wheel of the lawn tractor cartwheel down the hill to a stop if he did not kick the back wheel of the lawn tractor that day may have been his last day on earth. God was watching over my grandpa that day.
Back 20 years ago when I quit my job as a chemical lawn specialist and started with a lawn care company. First I sprayed lawns but this was first for me when the company wanted to spot treat everything. And all that fell through and I ended up driving the crew. And I started doing trimming shrubs ,blowing driveways off. Then they started me mowing. I came up on a hill worse than that. I told them flat out NO. They showed me how they did it and I still said no,because they were experienced and I was a rookie. If it don't feel right do it another way
A year later the company I left asked me to come back and I did. Lawn Care is a beast to do as in mowing and so on.Harder than pulling 150+ ft of hose to treat lawns and shrubs. Even though ppl that I trained have said ,No what you do is hard.lol
I know mine sure do. I have one yard that when I get done with the hill part I have to just get off my mower for around 2 mins and just take a breath lol. It is my only one that really kinda shakes me every time. I don't like it.
Shawn you did that hill side the safest way. I have had my share of those hill sides over the years and I watched some of the other lawn service outfits walk away from them.
I wonder why some people keep questioning what/how Shawn and TQ do and run their business. It's their business they can run it as they please. Some people need to stop all the unnecessary comments.
I saw cray cray video criticizing your tip of mowing forward dowhill. He never had a stand on , he have no clue the danger of mowing backward downhill on a stand on mower. CRay CRay is a clown😂
I mow steep hills side to side but i also use a 61 inch walk behind ferris with a velke on it holds hills a lot better than most stand ons
Very Nice job Shawn
Phenomenal job!
Good work guys stay safe out there
They had some mullein on the top of that hill .. that one of the best plants you could grow..
And you took it down..
if the customer says mow the hill and doesnt request for plants to be saved, then their gonna mow it down... not shawns fault hes doing what hes paid to do.
@@TaprootPoem13 they should have took it home with them and made some mullein tea with honey 🍯. It's good for the respiratory system.

I second the diagonal cuts with a 61 inch

Very nice.
If one person was spared injury from this tip, it's all worth it! Thanks for the heads up!

We usually cut ours at a 45°

great advice! keep up the hustle
How about a good walk behind

Thanks brother 🙏🏻 I just want folks to go home at the end of the day. Have a great Memorial weekend. Stay blessed
We always mowed step hill side to side when turning around backed up into the turn so much safer
Day and night difference after you mowed that hill. 👍👍👍

Are you seriously saying that those grand stands will hold a hill better than my laser z x series with twells? Come on man😂
Greatest team Spence r and take care of your work safe and God Bless
112 lawns and counting so far for May on my own
Hey Team Spencer, stay safe on the hills.
I had a friend of a friend try to drive a smaller riding mower onto a pick up truck bed using wood planks. I heard the mower rolled off the planks and into a ditch and I heard the 50 year old guy almost got killed. I guess he was OK, but it was a very close call for Grampa!
Another one! Great advice! I have a hill even more steep than that, and I use your method of going up one way and down the hill

Great tutorial video! Very cool! THANK YOU! Keep the vids coming! I got shivers just watching you go up that hill! Scary stuff!

First off I have not a clue why you used the grandstand and not use the walk behind/walker it would have come out much better when we’re not lazy

Contractor's grass seed or sod. Low quality.

Awesome video have a great upcoming Friday great job everyone
I have a question Spencer’s I was wondering what the best stand on mower by toro is the best for a 11 year old kid who weighs 70 pounds.
To start id personally go a toro walkbehind and maybe one those 2 wheel hoverboards things
@@southaussiegarbo2054 okay
Wish i had that many yards o watch everyday for updates and techniques

If the homeowner is watching, plant some ground cover halfway up the hill

Great tips i probably wouldn't take on a hill like that at 61 I just do a few lawns to keep me busy
Y'all doing lots of overgrown lawns this yr I see.
Up and down and stepped it for the win
Good evening hope you had a good day
Do as I say, not as I do? 🤷♂️🙄
Your lucky in north Georgia almost every lawn I mow has a hill like this some even worse
You worry about a snake? Not a yard to do early in morning with heavy dew. That's why some goys put a more grip tire on unit
how’s your land doing I remember you buying land on Mother’s Day
Be kind to nature. Even though we are hunters
Straight Up and down with a Zero turn , that’s not a bad hill , we do worse than that in Connecticut
Yep. This one would be pretty easy on a zero turn. This one flattens out at the top and nothing at the bottom to worry about
Hello👋
I changed my trimmer line today to the one you guys use.... Man what a difference cuts through like butter...very happy with it!!!
Some times the tires are off the ground
Hey I like it keep it coming amen
So how would you handle that hill if you were on zero turn we were sitting down with the motor behind you
Side to side.
Do your nerves ever skyrocket when your mowing a hill
I know mine sure do. I have one yard that when I get done with the hill part I have to just get off my mower for around 2 mins and just take a breath lol. It is my only one that really kinda shakes me every time. I don't like it.
I hope the garter snake got away.
option # 2 for that hill is to weed eat it. takes no time at all
Shawn you did that hill side the safest way.
I have had my share of those hill sides over the years and I watched some of the other lawn service outfits walk away from them.
Worst kind of mowers for hills. Too much overhang weight.
??
No one can hear you
How many acres do you mow before sharpening you blades?
First
Thank you! 😊
