  • You may or may not have seen the previous video of the Magic Mobility Extreme X8 (link below) where we tested the chair through the woodland and over muddy inclines. This time we thought we'd take it to the beach to see how it tackled sand. I appreciate that this is a fairly firm beach but even so, most chairs would only dig in rather than simply glide over.
As mentioned in the video, one way to increase the performance of the chair is to adjust the tyre pressures. The less pressure, the bigger the surface area of the tyre, distributing the weight and increase grip.
I use the below pump/compressor to monitor my tyre pressures, others are available but I find this one very effective.

Thank you for getting in touch, yes, it's definitely something we would like to do. We have experienced the X8 on soft sand but are yet to film anything, hopefully soon though!

That's a bit more like it! I need to get off the beaten track and so far what I've seen available just won't do it. Perhaps this might. Bet it's not available on Motability though?

Thank you for getting in touch Ash! Yes, it's a very impressive bit of kit and can tackle most terrain scenarios. Not on Motability but we can offer finance packages if need be.

Hi there I’m about to start trailing an X8 for purchase and after watching a few of your videos I noticed that you haven’t got the anti tip bar on in this one. I’m guessing that was so it didn’t get hooked on anything. But I’m just wondering how easy it is to fit, and remove the anti tip bar. I’m a Tetraplegic so I can’t do it myself but I’m hoping it’s not too hard to put on, or remove.

Hello Rob, thank you so much for getting in touch. Yes, thats correct, we removed the anti-tip bar as during some assessments, when we were kerb climbing or transitioning onto a ramp, it would impact. Not the end of the world and it doesn't affect the chair but it can be a little disconcerting. Plus, as Hanz mentions below, it can be uncomfortable and something definitely to consider if you're affected by heavy vibrations.
I hope this helps and thank you for watching the videos!

Also in meinen Augen ist das nicht wirklich Strand. Fährt dieses Mobil auch am feinsandigen Ostseestrand?

Did you use a tyre pressure gauge, or just visually adjust the tyre inflations? If you did use a gauge, what pressures did you deflate to please?

Thank you for getting in touch Mike, the X8 actually comes with a graph that indicates ideal pressure ranges based on user weight. In this situation though, we used a tyre pressure gauge and due to the sand being relatively firm, reduced the pressures down to 5.5psi

@@clinicalmobilitysolutions2131 Thanks guys. I’m aware of the graph and 5.5psi seems to be the recommended pressure for my 100kg body as the normal operating pressure. I’m wondering how I learn about correct pressures for running on loose sand on the beaches as I can’t find any details on that anywhere. (I’m also pondering the logistics of being sat in the chair and reaching all four wheels for a deflate to some lower pressure and also later reinflate after any beach adventures, and before the 3kms of sealed paths to get home.)
