Last gen Phantom 5.5 is my most dependable putter. Your descriptions are spot on. When dialed in w the right length and weights, the putter does so much to keep the ball on line.
@ I am very excited your reply. Your knowledge is very persuaded to me I am appreciated of your analysis about putter. I adore of watching your comments about putters . Very much helpful.
Just purchased the Scotty Cameron Phantom 5.5 putter. My blade wasn't doing it for me. Love this purchase. Planning on 3 stroke difference. Excited I found my putter finally.
@@DavidDusek Great video. I have an arc in my putting. Used blade for 29 years. Callaway ai, Scotty Cameron 2.2. This mallet feels so smooth. Cannot wait to actually play instead of just practice. Love the size, feel. My favorite putter all time Thank you Dave for your insights.
Special and Super Select Newport and Newport 2 are now Mini-Mallets due to Scotty redistributing the 40 grams of headweight out to the Toe and Heel. As for the new duel milling of the Face, this was in response to Titleist softening the Cover of the 2023 Pro V1 and Pro V1x Balls. Firmed the Face to keep the Contact "Feel" identical to the earlier Special and the '21 Balls.
I’ve always been a Newport 2 guy. I even got fit into one at the studio in Encinitas a few years back. I didn’t like the look of the mallets back then. this year the phantom looks pretty good so I ordered the 5.5 and it should ship soon. we’ll see if it’s a little more forgiving which is the goal. Almost did the 7.5 but I’m glad I got the 5.5
How do the other mallets compare in the Scotty line up? Are the differences just looks, are they all milled the same. I'm mostly wondering about the Phantom 9 and the 5.5.
One question I have asked myself recently was if you could pick a ball up the same way with the 5.5 as with the newport 2. I have a blade putter and i was looking at the 5.5 but i just could not find any information on if that is possible.
I love your comments

Great review thank you
Been gaming a Newport Studio 2 for over 25 years. Just ordered a 5.5 phantom x (2022) model. We'll see how it goes
Let me know what you think after you've played a few rounds. Just curious, but why the 2022 model instead of the 2024? - DD
@@DavidDusek got it from a reputable company specializing in the used market. Great deal was had IMHO
4:37 nice roll…but that lip out was brutal 🤣
That one shaved a few days off my lifespan. - DD

Yes, using the back of a 5.5 you can scoop up a golf ball from the ground like you can with a Newport-style putter. - DD
Wouldn't the 2.5 vs 5.5 be a better comparison ?
From a toe-hang perspective, possibly, but the basic principals I tried to get across in the video would remain the same. - DD
