We were greatly impressed with the capabilities of these units. We've been using them offroad, but some of these tracks were deep, soft sand. The Urals handled it well.
I will be attending this years rally. I have a Ural Retro. Longer, lower and wider than the others. I won't be subjecting it to this kind of punishment. I would rather stay on the bitumen.
@@sidecarmisanthrope5927 Definitely. The Retro, I believe, has the traditional front forks on the front, where other models have the trailing/leading link. I think this was the toughest Annual Rally ever. Previous rallies have been on far less challenging dirt roads. Still a good adventure, though. If you haven't done so already, search for Greg Jansen's YT channel, as he has a few vids of previous rallies. I've put a link on our home page.
Nice video! That Ural motorcycle is famous for its off-road capabilities. Two questions please if you guys could help me? 1) Does the Ural function better off-road when it has a passenger weighing down the sidecar? 2) What are the job duties of the sidecar rider? Thanks.
Thanks for your questions. 1) A skilled rider can keep the sidecar down without a passenger or baggage. That applies whether on or off road. Our No 2 Rider, Justin, is good at "flying the chair". 2) At one point in the ride shown in this video, Heff had to get out and walk, so extra weight can be performance reducing. (Heff weighs in at around 100 Kilos, plus gear). The sidecar passenger (also known as "chair monkey") can assist the Rider by leaning in the direction of travel, though most of our customers are happy sitting still. Racing sidecars require a great deal of work from the passenger, but Urals aren't designed for that kind of use.

@@epicridesandtours : You are right. The retro has telescopic forks. But by all accounts, they still handle better than other Urals.
