  • This video is intended to guide you through the process of changing the cabin air filters, and/or checking to see if you have cabin air filters. As you will see in this video my 2003 gmc yukon was not made with the filter replacement available witch was a complete surprise because the repair manual said it had them. So let it be known some vehicles may vary from this procedure..

    Thank you for not finding a filter. I was going crazy yesterday trying to find my cabin filter. My local parts store was happy to sell me a filter and every UA-cam video I looked at showed me where it was. You saved me a trip to the dealer. Now I can put the cover back.

      Where he pointed where the filter should be it’s actually in there ,some people cut that bottom rectangular part of the cover out and the filter will drop out and all you do is seal it up back so you have no dust go in

      I have this setup and there IS a filter in there. If you remove that electronic thing near the fan, and shine a flashlight in the hole, you will see it. Mines clogged all up and needs to come out. Was hoping this video would show how to make the cuts where it all goes back together nicely.

    Guys, it can be done. The plastic he describes at 1:45 has to be cut out to remove the filter. If you look at "09 escalade cabin filter replacement" video you will see. Basically the same set up. Only difference on the escalade is the plastic is grooved where you need to cut. Usually the new filter comes with a new plastic flap and screw to cover the hole. I have an 08 Tahoe that I'm going to be doing this on

      No problem! Just so you know theres a filter access door you can purchase and filter, simply cut out where the filter goes on the heat exchange housing box and insert the filter and put the new filter cover door on and you're good to go... parts can be ordered on line or at local parts store... I should've made a video covering this a long time ago! best wishes I hope this information helps.... and thanks for your comment!!

    Unfortunately GM eliminated the filter provision (cutout) with the 2004 model year. It can however be modified by cutting the stamping you showed. The space still exists underneath that blank to install the filters. You will need to fabricate a bracket to hold them in and cover the opening. Just had a thought, you might be able to find an 03 or earlier bracket that should fit, perhaps at a scrapyard. I also believe the Sierra pickups had the filter installed from the factory so that's another avenue to explore for a cover. Good luck and thanks for the vid!

    So is there actually a cabin air filter and you just don't have access to it or is there no filter at all???

    • @cyoutellme
      @cyoutellme  3 роки тому +7

      So come to find out theres a few years that the air filter wasn't installed at all... mine is one of them,.. but one can be added,. at the part in the video where I show where the filter goes theres that cutout that hasn't been cutout yet,. You can cut that cover and buy the filter and filter cover from on line or a local parts store can order it if they dont have them in stock. So if yours didn't come with the filter just order the filter and "filter cover" it may be referred to as the "filter access door." Something along those likes and simply use a sharp blade and score the air box where the factory "uncut cover" is at (witch is the part I show in the video saying this is where the filter goes) anyway score it and go over your score lines till you have cut through the plastic and the cover can be removed,.. simply install the filter you bought along with the new filter cover access door witch will come with a molded clip that holds the cover in place and makes for easy removal when filter needs changed... the filter will need changed when a unwanted odor appears OR if the air flow is reduced. I would change filter no less then once a year but if you live on dirt roads and have tons of dust it may need changed way more times a year it really depends of environment etc. The other really nice thing about having a filter it that the heat exchanger will stay much cleaner and makes it easy for the system to cool the vehicle.. best wishes, sorry I haven't made a video on this problem specifically, I've been busy with tons of other things not auto related.

    So I don't have the drop down bracket either but I feel like there has to be a filter somewhere. I can't even hear/feel the air blowing until it's up to half speed or higher so I basically just run my blower at high speed at all times.

      I'm sorry but I'm unable to fulfill your video request at this time, my advice to you is pick up a Haynes or a Chilton’s repair manual for the year make and model of vehicle you have. Those repair manuals are great for the shadetree mechanic as they provide general repair procedures. But if you need a more in depth manual for your vehicle get a factory manual available through your vehicles manufacturer authorized dealer.

      When you change the setting on your Air system, for instance like from defrost to floor or to head and floor etc. There is a actuator that that closes and and opens vent passageways to change what vent the air comes out of. In your case I believe it's more then likely the "mode door actuator." Has failed.

      Totally ridiculous that it’s necessary to improvise, adapt, to overcome this engineered nightmare.
      The filter is there but supposedly it’s going to last a lifetime? Yeah, I doubt it. That’s why you can use “a hot knife and hopefully not cut yourself or cut some necessary peace“ to get to a filter that is there but they make some sort of improvised adoption so you can change the filter. Engineers! My heroes!😤🙄

    You have an air cabin filter. I have a 2004 suburban and the filter needs replaced because of a disgusting odor. The hard cover has to be cut away, the filter replaced. There are replacement filter covers. I don't know what would make GM do it this way, it must be a money maker or saver for them but it's a big cost and or a lot of trouble to get the old filter out.

    • @cyoutellme
      @cyoutellme  2 роки тому

      Yeah there's some that are made with a non serviceable filter hints way there's no removable cover for the air filter location.. I sold that Yukon so never made a video on how to cut out the opening but I believe a hot knife would make easy work of it and yes there's aftermarket filter covers for the housing online that are direct fitment. Idk why GM changed it for some of these trucks but your right it's a pain in the ass for guys just wanting to change out a cabin air filter real quick. For those who know how to do the mod it's not a big deal but still have to ask yourself why GM just Why? I'm sure there's money being made when the evap coil plugs up or a non serviceable filter 🙄.

      @@CocinandoFinanzasunfortunately because that's what the manufacturers did or in this case what they didn't do which is "put a cabin air filter in"
      there is a punch out in the bottom of the housing that you can knock out and buy aftermarket kit to install your own air filter. I believe a quick Google search with the year make and model that you have (be sure to add cabin air filter kit) and you should get a result...
      I've been meaning to update this information but haven't had time.

    I pulled my blower motor and module amd had to tale this cover off. I used a deep 7mm socket and dropped it and it rolled in the center console. 🤣 cant find it and will have to take console apart. Just my luck.
