Yes, it's 2024 and I have a bushel of "better" cameras, but on a whim I recently dug out my old Fd91, bought a new battery and took it out for a little fun shooting. And I loved it! The results won't be hanging on any gallery walls, but I had a ball.
wow so cool . i am old enough to live through the era of floppy disks but was not able to afford a digital camera until much later. my first digital camera was a Nikon Coolpix 880 .
Wow I had a cool pix too, and Olympus, and Canon, the cheapest camera from Walmart, and... Yeah, then the Nikon d7000 or 7100 or something, it flipped out the screen, which was very important, and the d3400 I got from craigslist which was also very cool. I think 3400 I dunno. But yeah, I loved those cameras, I just can't take photos with my current projects and priorities, but.. yeah, yeah, I hope to someday. I had a like.. time lapse timer that worked with a remote, I got from like... Amazon, and the camera came with a double battery pack, 3 batteries, I think.. No 2. It plugged into the battery port. So I could leave it outside for like 2 weeks, to do time lapses, if the iso was automatic or the umm. Shutter speed? It was tricky. Because like, at night, sometimes it needs to be like more than 2 seconds or 20. But yeah, I love Nikon, it's better then any other brand, if you look at the specs of the cameras, like Canon uses all old processors. And lower shutter speed, frame rate, etc. I miss photography but, I mean. There's important changes being made, that will enable creativity so it's cool.
I had one of these new 1998 or 99, hi rez was roughly 140KB per picture, low rez pics were 640x480 pixel about 60KB. I still have many pictures. It was awesome for its time, the 14X zoom was 3 times more than anyone else was selling (consumer grade), the floppy disks were cheap and abundant. SD memory cards had not yet been standardized and everyone had expensive and some proprietary memory, smart memory cards (SMC), multimedia cards (MMC), including Sony' and their memory sticks, (not usb sticks).
Hell, I've got one of those on my bench right now I'm getting ready to tear down and figure out how to make an alternate power supply for (the batteries aren't easy to get hands on these days).
I have a fd200 with it's original box I got for like $30 and fd92 I got for $15. Good deal right? Well then I bought two brand new duracell branded batteries for $32 each. At least they don't trigger Sony's DRM. I love playing with them.
I have a number of these cameras (though frustratingly not the FD-91). Later models you can buy an adaptor that allows the floppy drive to write to memory stick. I have such an adaptor and it sadly does not work - I believe the failure rate is very high. Later models could produce higher resolution images which proved problematic for writing to floppy as the number of discs you need become ridiculous, although the drives do write at a faster speed. I also have the first CD Mavica which is absolutely beautiful. I will say that I did not notice creaking from my models, but most a smaller and the CD Mavica is pretty much new in box. Finally I have one of the first super-zoom Sony bridge cameras that writes to memory stick and I do have to say that the image quality from that is genuinely something to write home about. Really nice and holds up really well against much newer and more modern cameras.
Thanks for the info! I can imagine it becoming problematic having to change the floppies all the time! I would like to try the fd-5 or fd-7, and the CD ones, but unfortunately they are rare where I live.
@@Sebastianx007 I don't think that there's anything that special aside from them being the last of the floppy disc cameras. I would have liked to have compared it with my original cd mavica, to see if all that has changed is the recording medium. I would be interested to see the pictures that you take.
It is probably not broken! I believe only the FD-91 is compatible with that adapter as it has the firmware to write to it. I know for a fact my FD7 will not work with it

The Sony Mavicas are definitely something special!
@@mikaelrphoto I am hunting for it ! Found fd91 and fd200. Already messaged the sellers haha. 100-150$ each so a bit steep
Did you every tried DD disks instead of HD? Sure, the amount of photos will be lower, but does it work?
Unfortunately I have not tried any other type of disks, but if I come across one I can give it a try.

Hey i have one of these but don’t have a floppy disk, does any floppy disk work if i buy one of eBay?
Hello! You need a 3½-inch floppy disk
Just found one of this in my house. Someone know how much I can sell it for?
Does it have a charger, batteries, is it working?
I'll buy it
hey bro, is this camera worth something? I own one but without loading cable. I have no use of it just want to sell it :d
Hello! Working ones are usually around 35 - 50 euros.

I still have two MAVICA FD73:1 is ok, with battery and charger. I have a box of diskette never used too.

So what's so special about the fd91 I just bought a fd95 and fd91 at the goodwill today can you please explain the difference
