- Planting a Weeping Santa Rosa plum tree in honor of my dad. We picked this tree up from Greg Peterson and The Urban Farm Fruit Tree Program. See the link below to check out his website to purchase trees, soil amendments or get some info on what it takes to successfully plant trees and grow food here in the AZ desert.

Thank you for sharing about your dad. Good to hear you are a brother in Christ!
He was a special, God-Fearing man. One of these days I'll be home with him again. When you get there you'll need to stop by, so I can introduce him to you ;)
Excellent homage to your father.
Thanks Kelly. He was a gracious and kind man who loved to watch the farm come together. He would be smiling at this.
May your beloved dad rest in peace. Sure he is happy with what his son and his family are doing.
Thank you for the kind words. I'm sure he's looking down on this and smiling.
That was beautiful and moving, I am sure your dad would be so proud of your achievements on the farm but also the love you have for each other and the knowledge you spread on your UA-cam channel. ❤️🌿
Your comment warms my heart, thank you. I'm sure he would like this one as well.
Love you guys. you got my tears on for saying what you saying about your dad. You know im dealing the same. Everyone will admire your hard work and dedication even your dad.
Lol
Hey Bin! We had some friends over on Saturday and I was sharing with them about your land and we're all hoping things turn around quickly for you. We would really love to see you building a house on that land of yours!
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm Thank you guys I really appreciate it. thats our dream and god welling it will happen..
Do it for ur dad n ur kids will remember ur greatness God bless.
Interesting timing on this comment for this video. Last week was the 7 year anniversary of my dad's passing and his tree is blooming right now! Thank you for bringing back this memory for me!! ❤️
Duane, you are just doing amazing works! you are my idol!!🤩I used a shovel to dig holes planted 36fruit trees and 80 pine trees last year 🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌳
Y J, that's awesome man! That's a lot of trees to put in the ground with a shovel. Hat's off to you on that one for sure! You'll have to send us some pics or post a video on UA-cam, we'd love to see it!
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm ido have videos. Can I send you private letters?

Thank you for sharing about your dad! One of my all time favorite verses is John 11:25-26.
Amen to that Alan. It's why I believe God is able to let him look down and see what we're up to from time to time. It's not biblical per se, but he's there and would really enjoy seeing times like this. The Lord knows how to bless his children, so maybe this is one of those special times where he gets a glimpse of us before we're reunited.
As soon as I saw "for My Dad" I had to come and watch! Very nice but sad at the same time! Say hi to Lori and Austin and give my love to both for me! I can't wait to see when the plums come!
You knew him as well or better than anyone and I can imagine him smiling at this one. I'll hug Lori and Austin right now for you!
I’ve been watching and listening to Greg for a few years now and he’s very knowledgeable and seems like a real gentleman. Beautiful tribute to your father. I lost my Dad back in December 2001 and not a day goes by that I don’t think about him. Hopefully, one day I can plant some nana type mint (Moroccan spearmint) which was his favorite for making tea. Thank you for sharing and I’m positive that your Dad is proud of you for sharing your journey and teaching us via your videos.
Greg really is a gentleman. He was sharing with me the donations they're making to a few local charities and it's not something I've heard him share publicly. Right there with you on those memories of dad. So many times I'll be doing something on the farm and stop because I know he would love to be there. The plum tree was his favorite and the weeping peach tree was his arch nemesis, so this one is a combination of both! Your comment on him teaching us through the videos just struck me, btw. Didn't think about it that way before. :)
Look forward to seeing the tree grow and your dad's spirit will be in that tree. I see the same thing in my dwarf mexican lime tree that my dad planted when I first moved here. Every time I look out and I see the tree, I just see my dad. By the way, your ring system is really awesome.
I'm hoping it does well and thanks for sharing about your dad's lime tree. I think of that sometimes when we are planting these trees and watching the property come together. Some day these will be our son's trees and just maybe a few generations down the road they may still be around.
Everything happens for a reason and I’m sure your dad is looking over you and is very proud of the farm 🙂
I think you're onto something there. There are times when I find myself smiling at something and realize it would have been something he would have enjoyed seeing.
He will 🙏 I love watching this channel 🤗👀
Thanks Lou. Funny, my dad's name is Louis and he went by Lou.
It's neat to be in the background of a dwayne vid
Hey wait, were you at the Urban Farm that morning?
Was lookin forward to a Live feed today :)
But always great content!
Hey Eric! We're trying to stick to that first Saturday of the month as best we can, so we'll have one this coming Saturday. Hope you can join us!
Awesome stuff folks! Was thinkin of my folks the whole time ....went thru same stuff at the same time......been here in Arizona 7 years! I talk with them also when out on the farm under gods great gift of life he gives us outdoors in Abundance! We lost a dear friend here in G Valley last week...a fellow farmer....an inspiration to all....God Bless you Carmen Johnson! I want to post this on our facebook page. Would be nice to get a tree planting project in her name! God Bless!..........Golden Valley Eggs
Hey Dan. Another thing in common on this one, huh? I catch myself smiling from time to time because I'll be standing in a spot, or doing something where I know he would just be tickled to do the same. This tree is definitely one of those times when he would be chuckling at that old weeping peach tree that had horrible tasting peaches on it! I thought I had already liked your FB page, but just hit the like button again.
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm Thanks again for inspiration! Carmen was the admin for Golden Valley Homesteaing tips and tricks.......many blessings!
I finally narrowed the city search in AZ...might be a neighbor 😂 Kingman, Wittman, Wickenburg, or Surprise. Love your channel. You are a wealth of knowledge. My first UA-cam video will be posted Feb 4th
Woohoo!!! Make sure you let us know when you have that video posted.
I was also dying laughing while he was telling you about all the amendments you have to have in AZ knowing you do well with very little.
Yeah, it's a good thing the masks were on, because I was muttering under my breath at that one. Then again, bare root trees are the exception for us and we do amend the soil for those...ever so slightly :)
Eric, you nailed it! I knew somebody was going to beat me to that comment. The whole time I was thinking, "Greg has no idea who he is talking to does he?" Greg you are in the presence of the desert king, he don't need no amendments!
@@TheFatTheist I'm not sure about desert king, we still learn so much from you guys who comment here! I have to give Greg credit for encouraging so many to grow their own food. We've had success without most of the amendments, but there are some strong believers out there who feel the amendments really make a difference. I suppose the main thing is getting out there and growing your own which we both agree on. Desert king, that's funny Alan! :)
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm I follow several arizona/phoenix channels and I just listened to this one today. ua-cam.com/video/jEvBl7qLcyo/v-deo.html She also does not recommend using amendments.
@@TheFatTheist thanks for the link. We're a bit behind on our UA-cam viewing these days, but we need to get more connected with the rest of the Phoenix UA-camrs.
Very touching video guys. All the very best to you over there.
Glad you enjoyed this one Daz and same to you.
I believe Heaven watches over believers! Your Dad sees and is proud!!!!
Amen June. Couldn't agree with you more!
I just planted a Semi-Dwarf Santa Rosa Plum tree for my cousin Nan! She was a rocker from Elmira Ny!
John, I really love hearing this man. Planting something for a closer friend or family member is such a special way to commemorate them and the meaning they brought to your life. Not only that, fruit trees give you something beyond beauty and memory. They actually become a part of you. Very special indeed.
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm By consumption, yes part of me, I like that! Cheers
I’m sure your father is looking down and is very proud of you and your family
Hey Chet! I like to think so. Especially times like this when things start to take shape and the trees are about to break into their spring chorus.
Creating life from nothing is vaguely familiar
@@chetnash5991 I seem to recall reading something about that...somewhere.
We are one step closer to planting trees, we install a 3000 gallon water tank this weekend. Transported the huge tank in the back of the pickup truck from Buckeye to Wittmann :p
Woohoo!!! Chris, that's exciting stuff. Water means life can happen!
Hey edge of nowhere farm! I am watching some of your old videos and so as this one, MY PARENTS ARE IN THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How cool is that... what are the chances you would stumble it! They must be fruit tree fanatics like us lol:)
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm WE HAVE ALOT OF TREES TRUST ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@helloiamjunie1712 we're right there with you! 😉
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm lollllllllllllllll we have over 100 lol we're plant investors we're almost I think at 200 plants lol
@@helloiamjunie1712 now that is a heck of a lot!
Cool, planting that memorial for Dad. According to the old-timers, yes, those who went on ahead are able to know what we're up to. then I would get dirty looks from my parents, for some reason. that kind of bugs me. I mean, I know I'm not the only one they'll meet at the Gates with hugs and those steel reinforced hairbrushes with automatic tongue lashing. I mean, hey, if you knew my older brothers... :) God bless.
I'm hoping that's the case and sometimes I can almost feel my dad (and grandparents) peaking over my shoulder at the farm, smiling. My grandpa is another inspiration for me when it comes to this land, so it's a generational thing being on this property.
I planted 10 more trees today and boy I'm exhausted most of them came from Gregg's My pigs got ahold of my Strawberry Fig tree They pulled it from the tap root but since it has so many other roots I replanted it in a container it was the day you did your live show it now has buds on it I'll let you know if it makes it I just figured it hasn't realized it lost a major body part
Hey Pamela!! Congrats on those new trees, woohoo!! We were right there with you this weekend. Fig trees are tough, so she should pull through with a little TLC.
Can you do a detailed video on water management?
People in the southwest have a lot of water concerns. I'm hoping you can go over those, and how often you have to deal with water and which seasons also, and explain which seasons you'd have to watch and do management, and which seasons you don't.
Hey Noah, great question/suggestion. We have a consistent, protected underground water source out here in Wittmann. There are limits placed on how much water can be drawn at any given time (hence the reason we use the type of irrigation system we have in place) and the water table remains consistent from year to year. At least for now. Either way, it's a good topic for us to discuss in a future episode. Thanks again for the suggestion.
Thanks. Yeah I like ur videos. Your climate is similar to mine, I was looking 4 stuff like this. Looking forward to it.
I dunno. The extreme planting method...
The ornamental peaches story is great.
Those peaches had my dad stumped. The tree just put on hundreds of them and they always tasted horrible! He would be chuckling at the fact that it was ornamental peach.
Quick question Duane where do you get your wood chips from? I haven’t had much luck with any mulch from the big box stores
Get on Chip drop online
@@OnlyNaturally i will definitely do that, thank you! 😀
Hey Marisol, it looks like Frances answered this one for you and that's your best bet for wood chips.
what is the link for that special organic fertilizer if u sell it?
Hey Christian. We actually don't sell it directly. We have it in our Amazon shop (not currently available online), but your best bet is to get it from Greg if you can make it there. If not, we've found it in smaller bags at Summer Winds Nursery in the Phoenix area. I'll link to our Amazon Affiliate shop here, so you can see what the bag looks like, etc. It's under Soil Amendments;
