Candle wax works GREAT!...Thank you for your video. I cannot help but wonder if a wood oil would do this and preserve raw, drilled-out wood best. Thank you!
The baglama saz is new to me. When considering purchase I thought about why the original ways of pegs persisted (tho, I luv that of the instrument design). There must be a reliable way to attend the inherent problem or the design would not persist thru time.
I think that it persists due to the character/tradition of the instrument (as on the violin). You can buy with guitar fine tuners, but these saz are rare (and mainly on electro baglama). I have installed violin fine tuners on one of mine (used in the video), but you need to drill into the body of the instrument to do this.
Thaaaaaaank you for the pencil and candle trick! My tuning-"things" turn really fast, sometimes only when you touch them. And my Saz is never tuned when i get her out of her bag to play somewhere else :D maybe the candle will fix it

Hi KingZ. It is hopefully not an issue with the saz. It is hard for me to tell what the problem can be, but one thing to be careful with, is to ensure that there is some millimeter distance between the string (on the peg) and the body (with the hole). Otherwise you will press the wound string towards the body, which will hinder the peg in going properly into the hole. If this is not the problem, then you will have to wax the peg, either with 'peg dope' or candle wax (not too much): www.violinonline.com/stuckpegs.html#:~:text=For%20loose%20pegs%2C%20pull%20the,or%20peg%20box%20to%20crack. You can search on violin pegs, because the principle is the same. I think that a very last resort is to gently sand the peg to make it a little more rough, but I never had to do this. Good luck.
another peg remedy: if it sticks, use a bit of soap. if it slips, use a bit of chalk. also, there is a thing string players use. "peg dope." does double duty. available at your local supplier......🎻

A long neck normally have 23 frets, while a short neck have 19 frets, as mentioned here: salamuzik.com/blogs/news/difference-between-short-neck-and-long-neck-baglama-saz If you have a short neck, then you should be able to tune it to F. If not then the string quality is too poor. This is actually quite common, so you need to buy better strings. If, it is a long neck baglama, then you cannot tune to F (too high). You should tune to D (A G D) and then use a capo in 3rd position to get the F. Hope this helps. Good luck.

So i was wondering if it was because of the quality of the baglama itself that made it not possible to tune to F. that perhaps only baglama that are priced above 500 euro would be able to. So this is not the case ? Ill order a new set of strings and see if it happens again. If it does. Should i buy a more expensive short neck baglama or is that irrelevant ? Good idea to use capo as last resort. For short neck DGA tuning 4th fret capo i will get the FBC tuning correct?
@@gingfreecss3467 You should be able to tune in C Bb F with a short neck using proper strings, no matter the quality of the saz. The quality has mainly to do with the sound. I keep buying strings, I change them, I tune it and everything works well. After some period when I tune again the baglama, the strings keep breaking. I checked the bridge thinking it might be too sharp but it's not, I look at the little bridge close to the pegs, again no sharp surfaces. I am tired buying strings and dunno what should I do, I watch so many people tuning their baglamas so often especially with cheaper ones... If anyone knows what should I do please reply to me :( I am suspecting that bending the string's end when I stick it through the hole is not a good idea because it may cut it basically when applying some tension, but I dunno.. I tried with more expensive strings, same issue..
Hi. I only had problems with cheap string and here they normally break when trying to tune them the first time. Are you tuning your saz too high for the length of the instrument?

I was shown that if it is too loose to tune, put it in your mouth to moisten it and it stays. Thanks for the other tips!

Thats right, the moisture will make the wood expand, making it fit tighter into the neck

Is there anywhere you'd recommend to buy fret nylon?! I'm struggling to find anywhere that sells anything I can use on my saz and I've lost a fret!

Geared tuners and ball end strings will work.

It would have been easier to just use the loop instead of cutting it off and bending the string. That's why it's there.
Yes. With this video I want to show how the strings normally are put on. However, if there is a loop or ball end, then this can of course be used.
