When painting orange on black you want to layer up shades instead of just doing several coats of orange. i do a bright red and then orange over top. helps make the orange turn out more solid since it doesn't have the black to come through the thinner areas of paint.
I painted mine using the flight stand, easy way to hold onto something other than the model, plus a good way to allow the model to dry without having to put it directly on the table :)
If you plan on being a rebel player, the t-70 expansion just came out , so you can have a second X-wing with more pilot options and upgrades. Also, Y-wings are IN right now but you will need upgrade cards that come in other 3 other expansions in order to make it a competitive power house.
great tutorial. Here's a tip. To reduce the number of coats needed for a weak coverage color like orange, red or yellow, first paint the area white. those colors will get much better coverage over white.
Nice! One of the easier repaints I've seen. Liquid frisket can be used to mask off individual panels. I would like to see A-wing repaints. I like the blue rather than the red but I don't want buy the rebel aces box set every time. Perhaps a Y-wing repaint as wwell.

The TIE Defender got brought back into canon, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Avenger is too. As for bringing it into the game, I wouldn't be surprised by that either.
So what I would really recommend is an expansion called Rebel Aces that is perfect for casual playing. It contains two very distinct ships that will add a lot of variety to your squad. The hard to hit A-wing, with high agility and speed to outmanuever slower ships, and the hard hitting B-wing, with high health and attack to destroy weaker ships. You can find them online for about 15 to 20 dollars.
Just make sure its new and not used. Most used ships do not come with all the cards needed unless otherwise stated ( cuz they're for people who want to save on multiple copies of the ships and have no use for the cards) If you end up really liking this expansion, the next step would be to get the B-wing or A-wing expansions (at least one new copy before getting used ones) Tip: With little practice, a very basic squad consisting of 4 B-Wings with Fire Control Systems will steamroll any Novice who is foolish enough to take you lightly.
Here's a good and popular build for Rebels that have Poe Dameron in the squad of a 100 pts. Poe should have Veteran Instincts, Autothrusters and Weapons Guidance. You'll need either R5-P9 or R2-D2 on him for shield regeneration. Paired with an A-Wing pilot, Jake Farrell. On Jake, you'll need also need Autothrusters, an A-Wing Test Pilot to allow two Elite Pilot Skills which will be Push The Limit and Wired. You'll also need the Chardaan Refit on Jake. Lastly, they will be supported by Kyle Katarn, that has The Moldy Crow Title allowing the HWK-295 to not discard Focus Tokens at the end of each round, as this will be the key to the squad. You'll also need Twin Laser Turrets to help Poe and Jake on the damage side. And Finally, Jan Ors for further defense. Or you can go for Tactician for a disruption game. And its basically played where Jake and Poe double-team on a target, but position them at range 1 and out of arc of the target in order for the thrusters to do their work, and Kyle will pass a Focus token on either ship to have the advantage needed against the targets. I'm thinking about some masking tape for the orange parts maybe, but I understand an entry-level tutorial shouldn't include that, and the result is an amazing tabletop mini so why complain ! +NainDeLaMoria Thanks! It really depends on your level of brush control, but in all honesty, there's a guided line sculpted on it and if you work in short strokes, it's actually remarkably easy to get a straight line that looks great from tabletop distance.

If you have any interest in the scum and villainy faction, I would recommend picking up some Y wings. The y wings are a solid ship that have good maneuverability once you add an unhinged astromech droid to them. You get 1 in the scum and villainy starter box but I normally take 2 in my lists.
For the love of Mike - these models have a built-in stand and holder - would be so much easier and less messy if you would just hold the model by the rods or base while painting!

I really don't understand why they didn't have the T-70 from the Core Set in Poe Dameron's colors right out of the box. I mean, it comes with Poe as a pilot card anyway, it was obvious from the start that he's who people would use most with the T-70, and it would give people an added reason for people to also buy the separate T-70 expansion pack even if they weren't planning on running 2 T-70s in a squadron.

+Greg Rizk Depends on your steadiness. I've been painting models for over a decade. A straight line in short strokes using a sculpt line as a guide isn't as hard as you think.

Perhaps you can paint some white under the orange to make it pop out a bit more.
i found citadel yellows to be a good their undercoat for oranges

To get good orange try undercoating the orange areas with White. The Orange will cover the white better.
