Liked this video!! Although I feel like you could do the same video for almost any game. Don't know about learning to play 😂-- but in 5 minutes you do a great job of capturing many facts/rules of the game. So it gives a really good idea of what the game is about.
Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed it. I have done a few of these "In Five Minutes" videos. There are certainly more than could be done. Hopefully it at least give you what you need to know to sit down at a table with other people who might already know how to play, especially if you already know other RPGs.

But it's not exactly resurrection, more like reincarnation. Hasbro doesn't deserve to make money, nor it deserves to own D&D or Magic. It doesn't respect their customers, their players nor their traditions. In a perfect world, WotC would separate from Hasbro, and be much better that way.

You can do roleplaying in Shadowdark, but that is very freeform, so I didn't feel the need to cover it. You can definitely roleplay any element you would like.

Yep, nothing special, I have seen these rules in several other games. Also, this race to ancestry crap is getting old. I personally dislike slot equipment and the close near far crap is lame. Yawn 🥱 it’s another clone. So why does everyone keep acting like it’s the next great invention of RPGs
@@TheGladGolem I like Shadowdark, some of the others that I think are as good as SD are: Labyrinth Lord (great if you like AD&D 1e, and you want kind of a grim feel like Shadowdark), Basic Fantasy (the "value" leader in terms of cost, and very streamlined, fun, and clean to play, a B/X variant with some minor modern changes like ascending armor class), OSE (super clean layout and design, great choice if you like B/X ), and Lamentations of the Flame Princess (fantastic layout, simple, fantastic art, and super edgy -- just be aware might be too edgy for some). And never played these but have heard a lot of great things about the following: Hyperborea (great setting), OSRIC (if you want to play AD&D 1e -- closest to AD&D 1e), and Swords & Wizardy (if you like OD&D). I've also heard good things about DCC (and Shadowdark actually borrowed several ideas from DCC, like roll-to-cast).

I'd argue that "this allows you to customise your character" is probably misleading. You don't get to choose, you roll and get it chosen for you.
Good job.
Awesome summary!! BTW could you point us to the VTT you're using at the video? Thx!
I built that out in PlayingCards.io I am going to be testing out that particular build this weekend to hold some online gaming events.
oh! Nice, thx @@EHeathRobinson !

The death part sounds like 3.5 mechanics
There are those mechanics in there, I think!
It’s also in ICRPG

If "D&D is dead..." as people are saying now, I say Shadowdark is the Resurrection Spell

I’ve been playing D&D since 1980. It’s not dead. As long as we all have paper, pencil, dice and IMAGINATION, it will never die.

Don't
Ok, so that is the summary of mechanics of combat. But it's an RPG not a board game, right? So, where's the roleplaying?

@@EHeathRobinson I get it, thanks. So no setting, no lore, no hooks provided by the game?

We downloaded the rules for free and have been playing for over a year.
