Lol not sure why that's surprising.. they're aound the same age from the same era and were in high demand as sidemen but Marcus was also producing and composing for other artist while contributing his bass. The fact that Marcus simultaneously collaborating with Luther Vandross, David Sanborn during their musical prime and Miles Davis ..Marcus reputation preceeded him.
Amazing, Scott! From filming your first bass lesson videos out of your home over 10 years ago by yourself, to now being a brand AND talking to Marcus Miller. Wow!
I was. I remember him from watching early SNL and him with the David Sanborn Band. His performance on this session from the song "Smile" was particularly awesome. He was not only a great musician, but also a showman in concert. I owned 2 of his early solo albums along with albums with him from his session work. GONE TOO SOON! 🙏
Get yourself a set of of DR Marcus miller fat beams. Killer strings if you like his sound. Obviously there are other major factors, his bass, amps, speaker cabs etc, but those are some nice strings.
@@kevintownsend3840 Thanks!! Ray Parker gave him that L5 and in the same week he got a Wah pedal. The following week he cut Smiling Faces and Papa Was A Rolling Stone!
@djcoolcliff Great music damn he was an Inspiration for all us guys back in high-school I can't afford and L5 but I do have a great Ibanez AF 95 Geroge Benson style
First 😁 I use a precision bass and in multiple ensembles, and I agree aith marcus the P bass just works I think its for anyone who cant decide on what tone will work the best. Even if the p bass isnt the BEST tone for the job, its still going to be reliable and sit well in a mix.
❤ Fender❤ Nuff said Jack 😊. As a Native New Yorker, I can identify with the transportation issues. Fenders aren't just the Best, they've got an historic relevance that's defined the Sound of the Bass.
Yep fender jazz and precision basses e e goat's of the bass world just about any and every manufacturer makes a jazz or p bass copy and for good reason
I play a 5 strings musician made by Leo Fender and a 5 string status bass made in England. And I must see that the status is one of the best basses made

That po boy be Marcus signature look I to wear and love po boy hats, he looks mad kool in it, but I love Marcus Miller he is so so much more than just his hat if you don't know he is one bad ass bassist, I wish I could funk on a bass like he does, Respect the living legend artist that he is....😎 If you're a smart person with a good ear and a bassist you could learn what's under the 🎩

Word of advice learn how to play the P Bass and the Jazz Bass because I love the P Bass but the Jazz Bass is a whole different monster my advice is to learn both
Marcus Miller is an American treasure bringing so much joy to every piece he play on.
the fact that Marcus Miller and Nathan East know each other personally blows my mind
:-)
Why would that blow your mind?
@@Spratt86 why not?
Its a small circle of people, music industry. Especially for studio musicians

Straight To The Heart...one of my favorites albums since the first time I heard it in 1988!! 'Course Run For Cover is THE JAM!
Back in '85 I was 18 playing drums in a wedding band. This was THE album we listened to and eventually learned like half the album. STILL THAT GOOD!👍👍
Magic album with hiram bullock
Amazing, Scott! From filming your first bass lesson videos out of your home over 10 years ago by yourself, to now being a brand AND talking to Marcus Miller. Wow!
The great session guitar player Mr.Hiram Bullock..
Any fans of Hiram here..?

Found him through Oz Noy, Hiram was wildly underrated
Definitely! Friend of my countryman, the also late Arthur Maia, another bass giant!
that sounds nice, do you have a Fender?
that's my line...
Jazz Bass with flatwounds is best for me
🤣🤣🤣

@@devinebass Great line, even better delivery.😊😅
That was THE song that lit my passion for the funkier side of life!❤😊😊😊
Damn Run For Cover STILL SLAPS!!
Facts.
Henrick Linder plays the lick that Marcus Miller plays before the band comes in his solo on Follow the Light. So cool to see inspiration play out.
Good gracious that joint at the beginning is litty🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
💯💯💯
@@devinebass yes it's called Run For Cover.
this song sounded like it was about to take me there😂💯💯💯💯
My uncle Melvin Ragin aka Wah Wah Watson only used one guitar a Gibson L5 and he was a LA session player!!! RIP unc!!!!!!
That L5 Gibson is sweet and I see your uncle played with Herbie Hancock and Wes Montgomery also used the L5

I can't afford to have multiple high quality basses so I went with a Fender Jazz bass and that gets the job done for me.
First 😁
I use a precision bass and in multiple ensembles, and I agree aith marcus the P bass just works I think its for anyone who cant decide on what tone will work the best. Even if the p bass isnt the BEST tone for the job, its still going to be reliable and sit well in a mix.
P Bass is the GOAT in the mix!
❤ Fender❤ Nuff said Jack 😊. As a Native New Yorker, I can identify with the transportation issues. Fenders aren't just the Best, they've got an historic relevance that's defined the Sound of the Bass.
Exactly why, as a studio musician (retired), I owned 3 Fenders Precisions and a Jazz reissue.
That intro song and bass was fire 😊
The P bass is the best thing Leo fender has ever made. 👏
I have both, but for me the jazz bass is King 🤴🙌.
I play Fender only but it sounds like the NY engineers were lazy 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Well Marcus said everything was fast paced
ABE , yo Marcus you are the best bass player ever....
Agree
Marcus is a pure legend!!!
That’s why “Fender Bass” was a category a contractor would call for
💯💯💯
Fender is the TRUTH 🎉❤
Spoken as a true pro!
Run For Cover 🏃🏃🏃
Marcus in the house is church!
Ibanez P/J with DiMarzios, independent outputs, processed differently, mixed together, is how I get total variety.
What a G. NYC musicians are built different. Defo best city for music in the US
Especially back then, I prefer the sound of records from Los Angeles, they have a sheen and polish to them that New York records simply don’t have.
🗽🗽🗽
How about FAME STUDIO!! Some of the best musicians
Yep fender jazz and precision basses e e goat's of the bass world just about any and every manufacturer makes a jazz or p bass copy and for good reason

Sound engineers are pretty lazy. They also always want to use your "pre eq" on your amp.
Why are you wearing a hat indoors
Because it's not 1895 grandpa.
