Corporal.....just a question. I have camped out since I was a kid with my parents using the old weather repellent tarp material. Much older now and use the lightweight materials too. Like how your tent sets up for the best heat from fire. Thinking about one like that or the sling style sleeping hammock bag. Ok question.....r the new lightweight materials non flammable resisting sparks from campfire??? I know it may sound like a stupid question but I'm not a novice camper like u. My old tent I bought many years ago has a few burn holes on top and flap from being pitched too close to the campfire when cold and catching some sparks that fly up. It never caught fire u understand just burned holes. If that makes sense. Tried using super glue to mend with. I'm sure there's a better way. Love your open and honest videos. I'm a fan of yours. Keep the camping videos coming lol!! Btw I'm about to end the sleeping on the ground and go glamping myself lol!!!! I just love being outdoors and the peace it brings. Love how good the food tastes even if just a hotdog and the smell of bacon and coffee on the fire. Omg......I'm wanting to head to the mountains now lol. Merry Christmas from Tennessee!!!
Saw this about 3 weeks back but but was unsure if I should get one based on YT reviews but this puts it in a better light
Sweet.
Corporals Corner
How do you keep your stuff cold, or refrigerated?
How do you keep food in good conditions and how or what do you clean your utensils with?
Hey there Corporal
Thanks for the video.
My gear is in 3 tiers (levels) for my BoB or INCH scenario, plus a bug in hunker down in place on my small plot and truck trunks for bugging out to my BoL if required in shtf
The truck scenario is just the Hilton hotel version of my INCH bag which will be thrown behind the seat in shtf for both my wife and I.
As an ex South African vet in my 60’s i really appreciate your more modern advice and take on things.
It doesnt matter how much you know, we can always learn from another person. Especially another ex mil vet that adds a modern flavour.
Bacon popcorn? We would have been shot if we made that on a recon patrol
Keep on keeping on
Great vids and content
Head up
Eyes open
No fear
I just wanted to say that I served from 1989-1997 all eight years in the Infantry. I'm gonna be 50 years old this year and I'm broken/beat down from my time in service ... BUT .... you my friend inspire me to pack my shit and hit the woods!! So this year I have pulled out the TA-50, dusted it all off, and I'm ready to go. Thanks for your great video's and thanks for inspiring an old vet to get off his ass and do something with himself!! Keep up the great work!! HOOAH!!!!
Way to go there Tony. Rekindle that inner boy scout.
There was much less pressure in those days... as in, no chain of command. Enjoy the forest Sir!
I'm blessed in that I live at the edge of nowhere. Wild turkeys, deer and theiving racoons are my neighbors.
Tony,
Thank you for your service and if you live in the deep South, AKA Alabama and want an avid outdoorsman for a fellow hiker/camper get in touch.
Corporal's Corner: The story of a man and his bacon.
The possibility doesn't even exist for there to be a more epic comment
rodonkey10 lol, ease up there buddy😂 rough...
@@JoeyDiazInASpeedo Where on earth did that come from? I love this channel and I got a big kick out of the "man and his bacon comment". Not sure how that warrants this kind of venom.
I guess some people are just hell-bent on keeping us from having nice things...
Camping and bacon!
Well guess we found the isis infiltrator in rodonkey10. Cant think of any other reason someone would be against bacon to that extent
Would love nothing more than to hang out, camp, eat, and learn from Cpl Kelly. This guys got a wealth of valuable information that we're lucky to be privy to here.
"At some point, I'm probably gonna die. But not today!" 🤣
Your videos never get old. I just turned 70 and ground sleeping does not hold much appeal. My last truck camping weekend, I took a cot and put in my tent. That was a treat. This little tent does have an appeal to it. Your meals and popcorn looked great! Thank you as always! Your overnighters are always a welcome treat. Educational too. Thanks for what you do Shawn! Sorry to be overly familiar. You do a great job. Best wishes.
Thank you very much for liking the shelter, enjoy it as much as you could!
I was watching you add the kernels thinking, "ok that's enough. Corporal that's enough popcorn... CORPORAL STOP!"
Thanks for your videos Im stuck home recoverying from cancer surgery. Semper Fi MAC
That's the smell of freedom, thank you for your service !!!
When he put 4 strips of bacon in the pan I thought, "now we're talking". When he put 6 strips of bacon in the pan I thought, "this man knows exactly what the fork he is doing".
“Exactly what the pork he’s doing”, you mean. Hahah
Did I really just spend 30 minutes of my day watching a man I don't know, pitch a tent, do a gear review and eat bacon? Yes, I did...and man did I enjoy it! Press - On - Brother, only in AMERICA!
Love it. Camping is outstanding! Tent shelter, fluffy mat, campfire, portable stove, food, open air, great wilderness, etc. All good!
Sorry to disappoint you Corporal, Sir, but… Bacon and Eggs is a) healthy (when eaten as part of a keto diet, and b) English 😏
OMG though… popcorn, popped in bacon fat? Definitely American. With hot sauce? Military. I’ve gotta try that popcorn minus the hot sauce but with a drizzle of maple syrup (insert drool emoji). Always a pleasure watching one of your vids 👊🏼
Used this tent a couple of week ago and it was great.
I'm hitting 70 and if any part of me is not comfortable at night, I don't sleep. Only when my feet poked out from the bag and blanket and got cold was I not comfortable.
Being 6'5" and 280lbs I must confess that I used a blanket, air mattress, pillow and a sleeping bag. But I still had room to keep a good portion of my gear inside the tent.
With the flap up and the screen closed I slept great.
It's a good thing that the tent is rip stop because I discovered a 2 1/2" tear in it when I got home. No problem though. I slap on a piece of Gorilla Tape and everything is good to go.
By the way. This thing is so great my daughter bought one for when she goes on her outdoor trips. Usually hiking.
After watching this video 4 times I am happy to say because of you I bought this tent and I love it so far aswell as your quick deployable ridge line I watch the video on how you made it makes my camping so much easier thanks for testing this stuff out for us 🙂
@@stevewearp they also give you better stakes and more now it's not heavy to carry around in your backpack
Heck Yeah!!!!! Brilliant! My family has a special nostalgic fondness of popcorn. I can't wait to share this recipe with dad and brother next time were backpacking. We traditionally pack out frozen meat and pre-baked potatoes for the first nights dinner. Bacon popcorn around the campfire will blow their socks off!! Thanks for putting an awesome twist on a family favorite. BTY I really enjoy your videos. I always learn a bit more, even on those topics I think I know well. You've got great explanations and a heck of a great sense of humor! Thanks for the laughs. Be well and stay healthy.
Hey pard....you are not old...and....The tent I have been using for 25 years is the North Face Talus...It is not the most roomy tent in the world, but I have slept in it in temps from -10F to +75F here in Wyoming through rain and 14" of snow and it has never failed me...Another thing that you might want to consider is Starbrite waterproofing. That stuff is just crazy good...Keep up the good work....Love and watch all your vids...
Popcorn and a movie can't get much better than that!!!
The weight of all that gear is less than the gear I carried at Philmont 45 years ago. That is a sweet set up. Its on the list of new gear purchase for me. I know I am late to the channel. Thank you for that presentation.
Cpl. Kelly you are a legit inspiration and teacher to many. You’ve inspired me to explore the outdoors and gather camping equipment in an effort to camp recreationally. Thank you 🙏
Abosultly . i enjoy all his videos. Great instructor.. He brings alot to the plate.. More than just bacon...( meaning lots of info..) I also like the fact he brings comedy to his teaching as well. Makes it fun..
You had me at bacon.... I could smell the fire and the bacon....and it made me feel a certain kind way. Thank you.
Well that just beat all I've ever seen as much bacon grease is have thrown on the fire pit and everywhere else oh, wow. I'm taking my grandson camping this weekend and he's going to freak- right - out. that was just awesome I have never thought about that oh, thank you thank you thank you for that idea. Have a great day and stay safe! TQ out
You know, what could be more fun than popping up a bunch of corn while hanging out in a beautiful location with a "no fuss but got ya covered" tent? So what if you put too much in the pan? That whole video looked like solid fun, thanks for making it.
I'm living vicariously through these videos. Thanks for making them
Thank you for what you do for the outdoor community. Very enjoyable and educational content. Of course, thank you for your service.
Looks like a good setup overall. Here in interior Alaska, that pad is a 2-2.5 season, but it still looks comfortable.
As a safety precaution, we always keep a full extra set of winter gear, sleeping bag rated to -40F to -50F, blankets, fuel, food, and all the other survival necessities needed. You never know, the life you may be saving may not be your own.
I honestly think that every tents true review should be done in the rain!! And I mean windy rain...
All tents are great when the weather's nice...even the Walmart ones..
buy one and let me know how it turned out
"So check it out...next time I come out here, I'll bring something healthy. Not."
You're my hero man.
Fried eggs and bacon, the breakfast of champions, even when camping. Thank you for sharing.🍛🏕️
It's nice to see that you are using a tent that many of us might have instead of creating something from natural materials (I do appreciate those natural made shelters but, I can't build one [health reasons]). Your videos and expertise is much admired and appreciated.
"I am probably going to die, but not today!" Spoken like a true scholar
I know this video is almost a year old, but, I was looking at purchasing this tent. I have watched a bunch of reviews, and all positive. Your video just put the bacon on the sandwich, so to speak!! LOL I went ahead and pulled the trigger on it. Glad I did, So far, loving this tent! Thanks for another great review and video Corporal Kelly!! Tanker Approved!
Found myself watching this video cuz the Corp is Corp lol. If I was in the market for a tent I'd get this too. You made a good choice Brian👍🤘
My wife and I like to camp. So we use a tent. But to get out off the ground, we have a couple Army cots. It works great for us since we are almost 50. But I do enjoy the great content
I enjoy your videos for the equipment information. At 70 years old I don't like to be uncomfortable but I still like to do an overnighter in reasonable comfort. Your equipment listings are very valuable to me as I am sure they are to others. God Bless, off to check your amazon page once again.
I hear that... at 72 it's ALL about the comfort!
@@faithrada Absolutely, I'm still fairly old school. A down bag, with a wool blanket to cover it. I do use a thin inflatable like the one in this video. It keeps the ground irregularities from causing issues. No need to give up what we enjoy, health be damned, lol.
it's always amazing how you eat better in the field than I do at my house! I need to get out in the field more often!!
Hey funny story.
I was seeing my heart Dr and he asked if I was taking anything for cholesterol.
Bacon 🥓
I replied to his blank look.
His nurse got a good laugh!
HAHHAA
Outstanding, I just finished the video. Outstanding.
The outstanding video was outstanding.
Outstanding.
I enjoy watching your videos more than the other outdoor survival videos out there bc you actually explain what and why you do things certain ways and you show how. You actually talk to the viewer and your foods look so damn tasty.
So, bacon was the theme of this trip then...my kinda theme! I'm like you though as far as ground sleeping, not so much anymore. I like my hammock and appreciate my comfort a bit more the older I get. Great video as usual! thanks!
The color of the tent is as cool as it’s design. Way to blend into the woods.
Love it . Bacon grease makes everything better .
I tried going hammock. It is comfy and outstanding. Problem is, my dog comes camping with me and she does not like the hammock. So ground camping it is. I actually got this exact tent a little before your video on it came out. I've had 3 years of experience with it now and must say that it is pretty danged good. It does have condensation issues if you need to batton down the hatches for rain, but it isn't too bad really. Plus tons of room for my dog, my gear, and I.
Side note, on mine the top tie outs actually DO have grommets. Seems that some do and some don't. Looks like a running change they made.
The absolute best outdoor UA-cam channel ever 💯
And I thought I was the only one that puts Tabasco on my popcorn!
We may be brothers!!!!!
Tabasco goes on Everything brother, even mashed potatoes. lol
E M I put it in everything!
Man after my own heart! Nothing better than eggs fried in bacon grease for breakfast!!!
OK !! You're killing me here ! Bacon popcorn with TOBASCO !?!? That must have been DELICIOUS !
Going back and watching some older episodes for support. Love ya bro.
I have the same tent. I added hook and loop along the inside edges and attached a clear shower curtain cut to size, add with mylar on the back wall of the tent. Quick simple hybrid super shelter.
I literally watched a guy make bacon popcorn while camping. Nice. Subscribed.
I watched another video where you made bacon grease popcorn, I tried it and it was out of this world. Another inventive and wonderful video. I'm going to have to find out where you're doing another overnight and stealth camp just out of sight like Steve. When I smell the bacon I'll just show up.😂🤣
Hunker Down!
Came here to check out your review after seeing your video of you and your son, in the rain, with the great bacon grilled cheese sandwiches.
Me too and I was wondering about bacon grease popcorn in the prior video (my grandfather’s fave) and laughed at the coincidence that he made it here!
Me too.
Me too.
LoL me to0.
@@declevidence riiiiight, nice surprise
Corporal you said something to us a few months back about your goals and being happy. I hope 2019 has moved you in the right direction, and 2020 will complete the trip.
Campfire Bacon Popcorn what a neat and budget friendly idea! 2 thumbs up Corporal!
I really like your videos no matter how long they are. Very inspiring.
Love this guy .... Binge watching his videos.
Dont we all
#MeToo
Damn this is relaxing I imagine myself doing that the exact same thing with the difference of adding some vegetables
Another tip...rinse your bacon with water, and it will not curl up as much. Don't remember where I heard that one from, but I've tried it and it works! Nice flat strips that cook evenly every time.
Read two of your comments. Very good info. Hope to find more of your comments because thus far I've learned two new things
Love popcorn and especially in the wilderness. Smell signature must drift into woods and attract movie goers and popcorn police. I remember in the 1960's that our family camping trips to Deep Creek Park in western MD included popcorn. It attracted other campers and soon you see other campers coming from stores to enjoy their own popcorn late at night under a camp fire. Those were the days. Great video. BTW, remember as a teen, we would hide popcorn in other camper fire pits. At night, when campers lit their fires, we start laughing.
This time I went to the kitchen and got something to eat just as your video was beginning, looks like you're going to have a wonderful dinner,The tent looks amazing !!
A nice tent recommendation - bacon flavoured popcorn - an “A Team” quote... this video is officially high testosterone. Stellar outcome CC ⚔️👊⚔️
I started putting Tabasco sauce on popcorn when I was stationed at Camp Hansen, Okinawa in 96.
Great video and loved the popcorn in bacon grease idea. I'm getting the idea that you love bacon :)) Who doesn't? My wife and I like bacon in toasted flour tortilla wraps. Hers are plain but I add lettuce or baby spinach, tomatoes sliced, jalapeno slices and cucumber sliced.
Your videos just keep getting better and better. Thanks partner...
God Bless
The original idea for the DeLorean winged shelter in the woods. 👍👊 Outstanding Corporal!
#America "we're all gonna die someday... but not today."
If eating bacon is wrong, I don't want to beeee right! Haha great popcorn bacon style. Go Corporal!
Add in that hot cup of coffee and you will complete the smell of
"Morning in Murica"
😃
Merry Christmas Corporal K!
My cardiologist: Bacon is not a meal.
Me: That's where you're wrong, kiddo.
Dang. Through my whole childhood, I camped in an old-fashioned orange pup tent. Same shape at this one, a little smaller, but old-style - with a door on one end and a small mesh window on the other. Hard to get into or out of without making a mess, no covered space for gear or muddy shoes, and no way to sit under cover and enjoy the camp fire.
This is the next evolution in tenting. A few simple changes to the old design, and it's now ten times better for one or two person camping. THe only improvement I could think of would be making it double-sided to allow two people to leave boots outside and allow for easy cross-ventilation in hot weather. Maybe adding mesh windows (with covers) to the ends to allow for head-to-foot air flow while the main flaps are closed. If I were still tent camping like I did as a kid, I'd definitely buy this tent.
Wow thank you for your videos because it made me a better survival I made it through the worst is history in Texas weather ever The calendar your videos I thank you for making me a better survivor
Been watching for a few months now, love the videos , really appreciate the ones that are more complete shelters - long term if necessary.
While everything you do seems to go off without a hitch , was just wondering if maybe you might add a “ camp fire story” about something that went wrong or not as planned , and how you were able to rectify the situation.
Thanks! Keep up the great adventures!!!
Bacon flavour popcorn....where have you been all my life, and with tabasco sauce, my mouth is watering 😆
The food draws me in. Nothing like camp eats! Oh yeah the rest is good too!
Love the popcorn incident! My Uncle Petie who served in the army during Korea used to make popcorn that we grew on the farm almost every night. He did it with a pot on the stove with oil. We also had lots of bacon with eggs fried in that grease and occasionally he would make us sos.
I was looking in to that very tent, for solo camping. Thank you for the review.
First bacon, grease popcorn sounds amazing, next lol the amount you put in..."uh oh." Im thinking about getting the tent, thanks for the review.
I dropped some bacon on the floor and it made the floor that much better!
I got odd looks from the wife but I made the bacon popcorn and yes it was good AF. I added jalapeño cheddar spice to it an it just made it better.
Lived in a tent before. Life was good. I was young and drifting,(back when things were more civilized). Stan sport backpack and tent. Nothing this fancy, but it was a blast!
hey....eat all the bacon and eggs you want....my great grandfather lived to be 94 and he ate bacon and two eggs every morning.....eggs so soft they almost cackled .......great video
Fry the 🥓 in the pan. Mix 🥚 and milk and dip in crumpets and fry in the 🥓 fat. 🥓 with 🥚 crumpets serve with maple syrup or ketchup. Now that’s outstanding
Dehydrated cheese powder is also good on popcorn. Haven’t tried Tabasco, but I’ll try it’s cousin, Texas Pete and see how it goes.
Woke up this morning feeling pretty low..still in lock down and it’s my birthday. (American living in New Zealand). Started watching UA-cam & had bacon popcorn for lunch. I feel a bit better. Had a thought..went to freezer in garage and found 1 KILOGRAM of bacon.....check pantry-1 almost FULL bottle pure Canadian maple syrup and......1 shake bottle of pancake mix in my camping food container. I am now doing the “happy, happy, joy, joy dance” because my birthday dinner is gonna be epic.....BACON PANCAKE DIPPERS. Really sucks that I came home from a 2-week amazing camping adventure with just me and my dog & BOOM next day in lockdown. Should have stayed out.
BTW I am a member of the very last graduating class of the Women’s Army Corps which was abolished immediately following our graduation and part of the ceremony. Our platoon was the first and only WAC members to go on bivouac, arms training, night marches, etc. I was a 72E and was direct support to 82nd Airborne division. I am F*$*ing proud of what I did for my country and ashamed to say at the same time that because I served in what they called the Viet Nam era we got no thanks or appreciation. To this day, not a single person has ever thanked me for my service. One Veteran’s day when I used to go to church, they asked all the veterans to stand up and when I stood amongst all the other men there were shocked faces and people telling me to sit down.
Sorry to be so long-winded, but I’ve never shared this before and if a gal on her 62nd birthday can’t share her thoughts, then we’ll WTF. I don’t know how I got this old cuz I still act and play like I’m in my 20s. My hubby of over 20 years has never been camping & has no desire but supports my adventures. (Happy wife, happy life). Anyways...that’s my story.
PS...If anyone wants to know the secret to my longevity and youthfulness..........BACON!!!!!!! It does a body good.
Happy Birthday
That tent looks a lot like an improved version of a British Army tent that was issued to a mortar section as a control post in days of yore. It housed two men, two radio sets and a plotter board and was quite adequate for that. One thing though... Your kip mat is primarily for insulation and you would be better off with a self inflating one. It only needs to be about 12mm thick. If you inflate it using your breath then the moisture in your breath can freeze inside it overnight. I think mine was Canadian, but cannot remember the make 😢. With the air squeezed out it was very light and folded up very small. It was one the most useful bits of kit that I ever had.
Good luck with that tent!
I like that you let us get to really experience what you're doing in your videos rather than just always fast-forwarding through everything like some channels.
Being out in nature is good for the body and soul.
we all get together a few times a year at a buddies farm to throw weekend long BBQ / Shindig. there are really on one set of trees that are good for hanging a hammock but there are 4 or 5 of us who prefer to hammock camp. so if you are not the first one there you are out of luck. i am also getting older and sleeping on the ground is not fun. so here is what i did. i got a hammock stand and the OneTigris solo homestead tent. the hammock stand fits inside the tent perfectly with tons of room. there is also enough room that once i install the stove jack i will be able to use it as a hot tent with my hammock stand set up inside. this set up is not so good for hiking and camping but hiking is not my thing. thats why i was a MP in the Army because we took humvees or patrol cars every where we went. lol
What brand of hammock stand did you get? Do you like and would you recommend it?
I want one of those tents.
Nice looking tent, and yeah i love the bacon 🥓 as well.
Nice video.
♡♡ Great Video. Will definitely be purchasing the mat. A needs must for the hips. I got some hips for you Corp!! Again. Learned something new. My goal is to watch alll your videos before the fams big campin' trip coming up. Its gonna be epic.. might even send you a clip n thank you video. Bestest best luck on all your adventures. We support what you are doing. We support America and men like you. Just like us. Hoorah! Going on the big trip right near Paris Island... my favorite place in the World. That's were we have a coastal place at. Nothing like the Ace Basin. God Bless 😎🇺🇸❤🇺🇸❤🇺🇸❤🇺🇸❤😎
I liked the tent, also the bacon and eggs, popcorn not so much I'm a low carber myself. Next time when you are at home keep all the bacon drippings and when you have around one cup, try to make homemade mayo with it, you'll thank me later, because, in your own words, it's outstanding! Try it! Oh, and by the way, eggs and bacon are healthy, don't believe anyone that tells you they are not, and I can prove it to you!
Jorge Luis Garcia that’s genius! Thanks for that!
I can here a bird screaming Pop corn is ready to all his bird friends!
Corporal's Kernels, coming to a store near you.
👍🏻😎 That's a sweet little tent. Thanks for the idea on the bacon popcorn. I'm gonna have to try that out.
Only next time you have to use a much bigger pot for that much popcorn I saw poured into a frying pan.
I love the ingenuity and creative expression involved in creating natural and bushcraft shelters, but tents sure can be faster and comfortable.
I would love to pull into a campground and see everyone in manmade bushcraft shelters lmfao that would be epic.
That's a good video idea Corporal, go to a campsite and just start unloading the truck and building a Red Dead Redemption trapper hut while people watch in amazement, then proceed to cook a feast of bacon and just clean it all up in the morning like you were never there.
Back in the beginning of summer after doing my review of Bungalow version 1.0 that went over the issues I had with it, I emailed OneTigris to see if they had any advice for me on how to fix it. I got no reply after several attempts and eventually have up, deciding to try and fix it on my own. Little did I know at the time , everyone else had the same problems with it leaking ,it's poorly designed side vents, mismatched guylines & grosgrain tabs, too short stakes etc , and OneTigris was designing the updated version 2.0 that you have.
Surprisingly , about 30 mins after watching this vid and commenting last night Chris from OneTigris emailed me, saying they just now found my email. He said he watched both of my vids on it and apologized for the poor experience I had. He then went on over all the problems they had with it and offered to send me a brand new Bungalow 2.0 to try out and test, FOR FREE! Talk about committed to customer satisfaction! From what I've seen of it in this vid and others, it really looks like they listened to all the negative feedback they were getting and used that in designing version 2.0 . I can't wait to get it and try it out for myself to compare it to the original version. Just figured I'd let you know the now positive experience I've just had with OneTigris. They, and their sister company, " Black Orca" , have some pretty neat pieces of outdoor gear now. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already! ~ Chesapeake
I'd be curious to see how well that tent holds up to wind & heavy rain because if it'll reliably keep you dry that's an excellent summertime tent design!
Nothing quite like Heart Attack On A Plate for a rousing, early morning breakfast before going to ICU in a few years!
