This was Bruce Bochy final season as Padres manager. Bruce Bochy will sign with the Giants in the offseason to be their new manager, after the Giants and Felipe Alou said their goodbyes after the 2006 regular season. The Padres will hire Bud Black to be their new manager.
I mean, the National League was a weak league from 2005-2007, asides from 2005 Cardinals and 2006 Mets And the Cardinals could have won like 86 games in 2006 had they not struggle so incredibly in the final two weeks
Jake Peavy getting rocked once again in the postseason, just like his 2005 postseason start. And this wont be the last time that Peavy will get rocked in an important game (game 163 to decide the 2007 NL Wild Card in Colorado).
This was also the final year of just ESPN and FOX carrying the Division Series. TBS/TNT would purchase the LDS rights for 2007. That agreement of just ESPN and FOX carrying the postseason goes back to 2001 after NBC dropped out of covering baseball altogether.
STL had a wild regular season: from april through early June, they looked like 2004 and 2005 But then the Cardinals had an interleague play to forget and next thing you know they were battling just to hold off the Reds in the NL Central When Cincinnati finally cooled off, Houston closed to within half a game and STL flirted with maybe the worst collapse ever. But they righted the ship when they had to.
They had a seven game losing streak down the stretch and two eight game losing streaks that season. Can't think of a World Series champion weaker than that 2006 Cardinals team was during the regular season.
@@ajshaw4168 The Mets in 1973 ALMOST won the World Series with 82 wins, when they beat the Big Red Machine in the NLCS and ALMOST beat the dynasty Athletics in the WS in 7 games
Cardinals had a 9 game lead in the NL Central over the Astros with 13 games to go. Oh man, that would have been the greatest late regular season collapse in MLB history with a team having a huge lead with so little games left. I mean, the 1964 Phillies blew a 6 game lead with 12 games to go. And my 2007 Mets blew a 7 game lead with 17 games to go.
Ironic that STL played SD as the Cardinals basically saved their season vs San Diego. On September 27 vs the Padres, on a 7 game losing streak, trailing in the 8th, with 2 outs....... Enter The Machine
Last time that the Padres would make the postseason until 2020. They were strong in 2007 and 2010 but late season collapses killed them. As for the Cardinals, we all know the story.
Im surprised that they got Division Series games in 2006, considering that they only showed like two MLB games per week (Wednesday night and Sunday night) and no holidays baseball games anymore nor any extra games nor any September extra games that had postseason implications.
Cardinals are going to the NLCS for the 6th time since the 1996 season. 2001 season was the only season under LaRussa that they made the postseason and did not make the NLCS. Given, they almost won that NLDS against Arizona in 2001
7:36 More drama between Scott Rolen and Tony LaRussa. Theyve been having drama with each other since last 2005 season, ever since the Rolen injury, mainly because Rolen wanted to have surgery (and he did) while LaRussa and the Cardinals thought that he didnt need surgery and just needed rehab.
I remembered that the Padres and Dodgers were trying to win the NL West in the final weekend, to avoid the Mets in the Division Series. And of course, have homefield against a vulnerable Cardinals team.
Regarding the 2006 Padres (Since SW561 doesnt have the 2006 regular season): Padres made the postseason thanks to some signings and trades they made in the offseason for offense, which helped them out a lot this 2006 season. And of course, another great bullpen being led by Hoffman. Piazza was their catcher, and he had a nice season. Mike Cameron was their centerfielder, and he had a nice season. Adrian Gonzalez, whom they got from the Rangers in a trade, had a very nice season. And Chris Young, whom they got from the Rangers in a trade, had a nice season as probably their ace this 2006 season. But Brian Giles had a disappointing season.
For the third time overall, the Padres and Cardinals are facing off in the Division Series With the Cardinals winning games 1-2 in this 2006 Division Series, the Cardinals are now 8-0 against the Padres in postseason play, before the Padres finally won a postseason game against the Cards in game 3, but then Cards won again in game 4 to close out the Series. Cardinals are now 9-1 against the Padres in postseason history after this 2006 Division Series Padres will finally beat the Cardinals in postseason play in the best-of-3 first round in the 2020 Rona-Shortened Regular Season. And the Cards won game 1 of that 2020 series, to extend their record to 10-1, before the Padres won games 2 and 3 to finally beat the Cards in a postseason series.
Thank you so much for posting these !

Dude……….or ma’am…. Whichever….. you’re on fire with these posts.. lol. I actually stopped watching the video to read. Thanks for all that.
