I absolutely love this hack. I again used clear vinyl and it worked perfectly!! Today I used a size 4.5 zipper so the pull would be longer and it works out perfectly also.
Vanessa!!! You are my Go-To Teacher!!! Thank you for all that you do for the sewing community. I LOVE YOU!!! Question: Can this brilliant 3/8" non-sewn zipper trick be used on a LINED zipper pouch??
I guess you can but the steps change, instead of doing the top stich second you will sew the line or if you are more advanced then sew it with the zipper at the same time, do the top stich and the same steps but with the lining you will have to leave an opening in one side to be able to turne it over and the lining would be on one side of the zipper and the fashion fabric on the other side I'm sorry English is my second language I hope you can understand the idea 😅
Thanks, Vanessa. I love your videos. I do like the idea of this technique for sewing in zips. How do you do the same when lining the pouch, please? :) I don't use vinyl / faux leather etc, only quilting cotton, thicker cotton and even curtain fabric, so line all my pouches. Many thanks :)
Oh my God I love it!!!! My brain exploded!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 It's amazing! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! I only do bags and handbags for personal use but this is a game changer and definitely I'm going to tell this to my fellow sewis that do sew bags to sell! I can't thank you enough!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I tried this hack & it worked so much better. Did you trim off the little ears that were left when you turned zipper down? I also would like a tutorial on a lined pouch. Thank you Vanessa, this was great!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! You have saved me so much time and energy. I just made a pouch in under 10 minutes and it’s nearly perfect. I’m going to continue to use this method with all of my pouches!!! I wish I could attach a picture. :)
Thank you so much, Vanessa! I've been wanting to try something with zippers and they always seemed so complicated! This looks absolutely achievable! I may have to try it. I'm not that great of a sewer but this looks like something I can start to build the skill. 😊😮❤
Great video, thankyou. I have a nice piece of "Harris Tweed" I wanted to make a pouch or small bag with but have never been happy with the ends of my zips.
On this zipper hack would this work also if you are using a lining for the pouch? In my mind I'm thinking it should and we would just so the way we normally would if installing a lining??? This just looks so clean and neat. I sometimes just don't want the zipper tabs on a pouch.
I have watched our videos 'forever'. You make everything seem so easy. As yet, I've not tried to sew anything. Why have such long zippers when you just cut most of it away? Making a pouch like this with scrap fabric would work just as well, yes??? I need to make something to carry my phone in...
In this project we use a longer zipper so the topstitch on the second side is easier to topstitch. When you use a zipper that measures just right it’s difficult to topstitch the second side well.
The waviness comes from inconsistent seam allowances. If you don't sew straight across the fabric and zipper and at the same distance away from the edges the zipper will be wavy. Try using a seam guide or using more pins/clips to keep the layers steady while you sew.

Yay! So glad to hear that you love it! Thanks for sharing! 🙏🏽❤️
Brilliant hack!
Can you show how to do this hack on a lined pouch?@@TheCraftyGemini
Great hack! Can we please have a video using this method on a lined pouch? That would be great!
I thought the same thing… A lined pouch would be the icing on the cake!
What a wonderful idea I just wish you had done it with a quilted bag with a liner. Love all your videos!
I enjoyed this zipper pouch video. Will be trying it out in a few days. I have always been intimidated in doing zippers. thank you
So much better!!! Have you figured out a way to use this trick for bags that have linings??🙏
Love that idea. I usually have issues have issues with the ends of the zippers looming bunchy

Always a clever lady, thank you
Thank you! I will definitely try this as I don't enjoy doing zipper tabs. For me, they don't always come out even.
Thanks, Vanessa.

🤯 I think I'm pretty smart, this has NEVER occurred to me, genius!!! I just assumed I'd always have dumpy zippers 😂
Sweet idea!
Thanks CG!❤
Great video, thankyou. I have a nice piece of "Harris Tweed" I wanted to make a pouch or small bag with but have never been happy with the ends of my zips.
Thank you … excellent
Brilliant!!! Thank you for this!!!
Great demo like a butler method but not nearly as fiddly to do
Is there a way to utilize this hack with a lining included?
interested in this also. I line all my bags with coordinating fabric, so am interested in that.
Great video and great HACK! Thank you!
Love this! Thanks so much for sharing
great hack..thank❤
Could you show this using cotton and a lining?
This is fantastic! How classy would it be if you boxed the bottom corners?
Wonderful!
Vanessa will this hack work if you're lining your project?
Can’t wait to try this!! Genius!! 💯
Yay! 🙌🏽 ❤️
Can’t wait to try
nice
That is a great hack.
Wow!
Would this hack work with a lined pouch?
Was wondering same thing. My OCD prevents me from having unlined projects. 😉
Again Genious!!!

Great tutorial! How do you get your sewing machine to go through all the layers at the beginning? I have a Janome sewing machine. Thanks!
I'm wondering if the technique needs to be adjusted for pouches sewn from quilt cotton with lining .. I don't sew vinyls or faux leathers...
When you say to lengthen your stitch on the viewable side, how much longer do you recommend?
Depends on the layers of bulk and the machine but I usually recommend between 3.0-4.0mm long.
Can’t wait to try this! Question- when you top stitched the zipper, did you start at the end or did you go 3/8” in?
Go 3/8” in in on every zipper related seam in the pouch. Hope that helps!
@@TheCraftyGemini yes! Thank you! Rainy day here so I’m looking forward to making some of these today. 😃
Will this tip also prevent waviness? I’m not sure why it happens, but my zippers seem to come out wavy when I install them on pouches.
The waviness comes from inconsistent seam allowances. If you don't sew straight across the fabric and zipper and at the same distance away from the edges the zipper will be wavy. Try using a seam guide or using more pins/clips to keep the layers steady while you sew.
@@TheCraftyGemini Ahh gotcha! Thank you so much for your reply! This is very helpful info and I'm glad I know why my zippers have been wavy!
Very similar to the Butler Method
Wow, that looks like twelve steps less than other ways I’ve seen
👏👏👏👏
Hablad muy deprisa y no se te entiende nada.
I'm trying to understand your Structures but your talking too fast for me
You can slow the video down in the video player settings. 👍🏽
Thank you. I wish you would speak a little slower !!
