She’s on her way out this year. All the serious crimes that have been committed in Atlanta on her watch have seriously affected how even her own supporters are viewing her poor style of leadership.

Her job as the mayor is literally to ensure public safety for the residents of the city. This woman should not be the mayor of Atlanta.

She’s doing just that by ensuring everyday residents are not unjustly jailed and why would as a resident, would we want a jail holding violent offenders (and when they get bail, or something) in the heart of a busy downtown area and tourist destination (its onPEACHTREE). That’s like putting your dirty laundry by the front door of your house. Most jails are in densely populated areas for a reason.

Jail is supposed to be a symbol of a place you don't want to be. Not a rest haven.

The community is talking about crime and she's talking about "symbols".

I agree with her on a lot of issues. Ending the contract with ICE is not one.

So, what I heard beginning around 1:10--- Q) How did your childhood affect your view today? A) My dad was in prison, and I had various family members who BROKE THE LAW, and police caught them and took them to jail.
Not sure why this is even relevant. Law is LAW. If the law's bad, repeal it. If it's good, sorry, must be consequences.

Oh please lady, some people need to learn that they not only have rights, but also duties.

People don't know alternatives to jail but criminologist do and have a VERY high success rate for misdemeanor crimes. I was caught shoplifting 15 years ago, after separating from my common law wife ( one child ) left me very broke and I had to gas up the car for work, so I shoplifted frequently to eat to afford the gas for my car and other regular expenses. I went to court and the Judge offered me 1 option that would leave me with no criminal record if I was never caught again stealing for a minimum 5 years, otherwise I would be prosecuted for BOTH crimes. I took the offer, and kept my word, never stole since and honestly shoplifting or stealing just never even crosses my mind now. Jails should only be used as a last resort and prisons are for DANGEROUS people only, Community service is an alternative that really works, as the petty criminals get more than enough time to think of what life they want to live in future. I think Mayor Bottoms had seen many lives being ruined by silly mistakes. Someone went to jail for jaywalking? seriously who elses life was at risk other than the jaywalker? Can't pay a fine for jaywalking, the alternative would be payment plans, On some fines I couldn't afford the processing fees even. The more fortunate you are the more you can laugh at the law and pay to get out of jail. We aren't being protected we are being fleeced of better lives. Being detained on a very short term for a misdemeanor is sometimes the right solution ( rowdiness, drunk and disorderly, fighting etc...) for a cooling off period, but should be followed by brief counselling as to offer options if there is a next time.....

An amount of crime statistics are due to economic desperation.
