- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) has had anything but a smooth launch. The campaign of the game released to critical and fan outrage with it being cited as "the worst campaign in Call of Duty history", a sentiment I 100% agree with. On top of that the multiplayer released with nothing more than a few new guns, remastered maps from Modern Warfare 2 (MW2), and TTK that is way to high compared to other games in the series. MW3 zombies is also a trainwreck with it essentially being a reskin of DMZ and feels more like Warzone than a traditional Zombies experience. Because of this Activision and Slegehammer Games are in full blown damage control trying to deny that Modern Warfare III is simply DLC for MW2 2022 stating it was "Years in the Making".

My Review for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Campaign
Call of Duty Modern Warfare III (MW3) 2023 is the latest Game in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Franchise from developers Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and most importantly in this case Sledgehammer Games. Modern Warfare 3 follows the story of Captain Price, Soap MacTavish, Ghost, General Shepherd, Vladimir Makarov, and the rest of Task Force 141. In this latest entry, Makarov, General Shepherd and Captain Price are out to either start or prevent World War 3. In this game we get the reimagined version of No Russian which turned out to be a massive disappointment compared to the original No Russian Mission in MW2. The story of the game is very bad and down right trash at times and the campaign only lasts for a little over 3 hours with 2 of those hours being taken up by cutscenes making Modern Warfare III feel like a glorified movie game. To put it frankly, Modern Warfare 3 Absolutely Sucks and is a Pathetic excuse for a game trying to live up to the Modern Warfare 3 name, at least in terms of the campaign. The verdict is still out on MW3's Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone 3 if they pan out to be better than MWII 2022. Only time will tell but I wouldn't waste your time playing the campaign for Modern Warfare 3 on PS5 Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and the PC. The Modern Warfare 3 Full Campaign Playthrough is only 2 Hours and Modern Warfare 3 all cutscenes is 2 of those. Not to mention the Modern Warfare 3 ending is HORRIBLE compared to the original.

I Can't Believe I am saying this but the Multiplayer for Modern Warfare 3 SUCKS...Going in I was expecting to really enjoy the multiplayer for this game but after spending time in the final release I can confirm that CoD MW3 is a massive disappointment whether you look at the Multiplayer or the Single Player Campaign. Truly a pathetic excuse of a game from Sledgehammer that should have just been a DLC for Modern Warfare 2. - Ігри

Yeah, but WWII so much better than modern warfare three it’s got its faults. I don’t like the zombies, but the campaign and multiplayer was up there for me. Unless I need to go back and replay it and see if I was just blinded by nostalgia with them going back to World War II.

Modern AAA games are basically free-to-play MMOs that you pay for up front. They're designed to provide a demo of the real experience that rushes you to the "endgame," so it can funnel you into the cash shop once you've realized that it stopped being fun an hour after you started, and you've put too much time in to feel like quitting.
Meanwhile, this debuted at #1 on the UK charts.

If they can reduce those awful respawn timers I'll be happy. I just got back into Infinite and taking 8-10 seconds to respawn in Husky Raid is awful. Especially with spawn campers.

RGG Studio: Cooks up an amazing ''spin-off'' with 10 hours of main story plus 20 hours of side content, re-used assets in a clever way that it feels totally like a different game from it's predecessors(Looking at you Spider-Man 2), and even though it's one of the shortest it has become one of the best in the Like a Dragon franchise
Activision: Do whatever the hell Modern Warfare 3 Hours is. I've seen hardcore fanboys of COD defending WWII, Black Ops 3 and even Ghosts, but even them can't put up with this shit.

All this game has proven that people will buy CoD every year regardless of the quality of it. This game is breaking records right now even though the reviewers tried their best to kill the game. I think we also need to stop taking Steam charts as the only metric to gauge a game's success, its one place where people play out of many.

It didn't beat any record besides the usual top seller of the year. MWII is the best selling COD ever and if this was a DLC for that game it would've been more than deserved. MWIII has the best gameplay of any COD game EVER made, and i played all of them for tens of thousands of hours. SBMM and aim assist / no input selective matchmaking is what ruins this otherwise absolutely brilliant game, its the closest we got and we will probably ever get to the golden age of CODs (COD4 to BO2)

I enjoy the multiplayer and the zombies DMZ mode as I haven’t played much cod at all and my friends got me into it 4 or 5 months ago as they play it a lot. I just don’t bother with the campaign. Plus my friend and I went half and half on the game’s price so I didn’t have to spend full price

Here’s another thing to rage at, they didn’t update the mw2 guns to account for the health increase in mw3 from 100-150. So if you think the mw2 guns don’t feel like they used to, you are correct.

small conspiracy theory of mine is that they made the shity call of the duty HQ thing to hide player numbers of specific games so its harder to tell how poor or well a game is doing, but in MW3s case it doesn't do a good job of hiding the poor player count.
Its already been publicized to do just that, also the hq imo is trying to force people to buy mw3, since it takes too long just transitioning over to mw2.

Activision is playing just dirty games with us. There is no way that they didn't expect these bad reviews. I think they break the game on purpose so that the next games don't look worse so that players will buy their new trash game over and over again. Als another reason why they bring the og maps and zombie mode to mw3. They knew that this game was terrible and they needed to add zombies to compensate for the loss from bad sell.

It is a shame to see what has happened to Call of Duty. I never played Cod in its prime since I only started playing cod at Black Ops 3 and that game is better imo. Also Sledge Hammer seems to be really inconsistent with developing Call Of Duty. They either make some of the best Call of Duty games or some the worst.
original MW3 isnt by far the best of the trilogy, that tittle belongs to 2, grifin liking 3 its a personal opinion, because MW3 back in the day was also labeled as a DLC, it was an asset flip of MW2 with a slightly worse campaign, the only good CoD SHG made was MW3 and even that is debatable becuase th best CoD campaigns of the franchise are BO1-2 MW1-2 and probably IW, best multiplayer is MW2-BO2

As a PS5 player, I was actually happy Microsoft was taking control, because clearly previous management was dropping the ball on CoD. Maybe the competition would force Microsoft to at least try to push CoD to being what it once was. But nope. Seems like Microsoft just wasted their money on this and won't do anything about it. Sales for this game are actually dropping too.

Here is something to remember about the OG Modern Warfare games and COD in general. The InfinityWard team that made COD4 and MW2 left Activision back in 2010, MW3 was made in 2011. InfinityWard made the Campaign for COD4, MW2 and MW3 while Sledgehammer made MW3's Multiplayer (possibly also the Survival mode). InfinityWard hasn't made a good COD since 2009 with MW2. Activision still treats InfinityWard like the GODs of COD and has been using IW's engine since MW2019 for every COD even Cold War (Modified) when Treyarch used to make their own engine for their games. Raven software has been a part of Activision for a long time and has been part of COD development since before Warzone and now is the main developer of Warzone (highly likely that Raven's involvement in Warzone plays a big part of the issues of Metas in MP {just my speculation}). For both Vanguard and MWIII, the devs at Sledgehammer were only given 16 months to make the games as opposed to the usual 3 years that the other devs get. Sledgehammer also turned WW2 on its head and changed the game significantly from launch based on the negative reviews and the feedback on WW2 at launch.

I'm surprised people are actually surprised this happened. Players are acting as if this hasn't slowly gone downhill since they decided to recycle all their older franchises. MW III is just the latest result of players defending Activision until it got to this lowest point.

Once you hit lvl 55 there’s nothing to work for …. No prestige, No league play, nothing to further work for and it’s not like you can just play it for fun with SBMM. Basically have to shower after a few games cause if you not sweating you getting shit on …. Crazy shit.

Original MW3 is actaully 4-5 hours and 90% of it is gameplay while MWIII is 3 hours long and 60% of it is cutscenes.

I thought that it was just an expansion pack from modern warfare 2. Well, now the last remaining chance of me playing this game just disappeared. Modern warfare 1, 2, and three should be one multiplayer platform with all of the maps, modes, and weapons included. They're already so close to each other that it is insulting that they are split into separate titles with separate entry fees.
Man I love have 0 time to react because someone is using a vector or meta built quick scope sniper just sounds so fun
The last handful of years now have essentially been DLC. Cold War was on the Bo4 engine, so going from MW19 to Cold War was different and refreshing, but with MW19, Vanguard, MW II and now MW III being all on the IW engine with the same mechanics, same animations, same everything, Cod is just more tiring than ever at this point. Cod has never been the most unique experience year to year but before Warzone existed you could at least tell and feel what dev made what game, now they are just all the same.. Shame really. I want them to go back to different engines every year, the mainline games do not need to be tied to Warzone anymore, I'm just sick of multiplayer being built FOR Warzone.
They wont. Warzone just prints too much money. Cod devs no longer care about what you want, they only listen to the 9 year olds who they know will buy a Drake bundle if ever added to the shop.
I would not be surprised if the developers at Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer decide to go to Microsoft and say they want to do something other than Call of Duty to see if they can take advantage of Phil Spencer's stance on developer freedom. Don't know if Microsoft will actually let them, though.

The guy below made a very worthwhile comment. From politics, to entertainment, to consumer goods, the wealthy hit their stride in status quo and think NOTHING needs to change because they're rich. Like Modern Warfare 1 is unplayable now and people still have the nerve to defend this series. The few that can play without ANY lag are the exceptions and not the rules. UT2004 nor Battlefield, or Halo's servers ever became unplayable due to lag. Ill never play COD again a second in my life.
Everyone hated Cod ghosts, infinite warfare, ww2, black ops 4… look at the trash we had these last years. MW19 was squandered. Now we have “games” built around stores and each fucking year it gets worse. It’s pathetic really.
For me the only thing that ruins mw3 MP is the sbmm. Once ranked comes out, I feel they may loosen it up but it’s what should be the forefront of complaints. If bo2 had sbmm, it wouldn’t be the goat mp.
Overall the changes made to the multiplayer should be the ground work for the future. The guns feel better, the 150 health and perks makes gameplay feel like classic cod, my personal favorite is that the attachment system actually effects guns in a meaningful way, rather than having a single “meta setup”. It feels like a truly refined version of mw19 gunsmith.
This zombies mode shouldn’t be one and done. It should be improved on and expanded for future installments with round based modes coming alongside. There’s multiple reports that it’s coming so I have hopes it will be better.
We need to keep criticizing the game for it to get better, but support the features that should stay. This MP was marketed to be a fix to what we want, so let’s make sure we keep what we want.
Yes. Impossible to binge play with sbmm. I played bo2 in its prime and sometimes a session was 15 hours. It was so much fun NOT knowing if this lobby will be good or not.
this could be good for the next CoD, waht im thinking is that if Treyarch is having a hard time developing Black Ops 2024 (because they were tasked to made Vanguard Zombies) maybe Microsoft could step in and delay the game becasue it wasnt announced yet so theres that possibility, but theres the small chance that we could get another redfall

I skipped last years cod for the first time as I hated they added last stand back in, the perk system and the lack of content. I’m so happy I waited to buy this game instead cause I actually love the gameplay. There’s so much content for me to go through, I personally love the OG mw2 maps and mostly play hard point so lobbies are always moving. The new gear system is the first time they’ve changed the perks and it be good and yeah for me they fine tuned aspects of MwII that I did like. The campaign was horrendous though.

Don't blame Sledgehammer this time blame Activsion and the execs in charge who made the switch from an expansion to a standalone game and approved MW3 to be made in 16 months rather than giving them time to work and finish the game. Actions matter more than words and they've shown to care about the players and take feedback during the beta.
Sony must be slowly realizing how pointless all their legal fighting was over the past year, between Starfield and COD both disappointing pretty broadly.
As someone who has, in the past, played COD games for their cinematic story and never once (after COD 4) touched the multiplayer; MW3 story is definitely NOT what I was hoping for or even in a million years would want.
As someone who just got into COD multiplayer with MW2 2022, I have no real issues with MW3 multiplayer.
As someone who LOVES everything related to Zombies; Zombies mode was definitely not what I was expecting, but I'm fine with it, it's DMZ without players, it's relaxing. And we will be getting a round-based Zombies experience with COD 2024.... hopefully...
Overall, not worth the price tag on it, but I'll wait a year and see where it goes from there as MW2 was shit on release as well, bareboned and everything.
Battlebit remaster was created by how much people? 2. Meanwhile, 16 months, several hundred people, already created assets. Sledgehammer so bad they can't build something good on already established basement.
People are building shopping malls in a freaking desert of UAE within the same amount of time. While blue haired land whales hired by quotas are working for 30-36 hours a week and still complaining about Activision.
Fallout 2 was assembled in the same time period with a ton of cut content, with a handful of people, still one of the best game ever made.

I got MW2 on sale because I just wanted a shootbang game, and played it on-and-off for awhile, just casual run and gun multiplayer.
One thing MW3 managed to make me do is finally give up on MW2, because now I have to launch a separate launched that posts me in the face the game I don't have and I have to scroll to find my old game for poor people.
Fuck it. The multiplayer for Titanfall 2 is up and working again, Imma be playing that for my multiplayer fix
Yup played 5 games of mw3 and it was miserable. Just a bunch of people camping and half the TDM lobbies wouldn’t even reach the score limit lmfao. I could barely drop a 1-2kd. I went to MW2 and played the shipment playlist and immediately dropped 130 kills with 20 deaths.
Cause MW2 takes no skill only gap there was was aim

The facts are when aiming and movement is the most important thing I thrive but when camping and playing likes it’s a arma 3 mill sim mission is the most important thing there’s nothing I can do. Unless I start playing like some trash can and sit in corner. The only map that’s good in mw3 is rust and that’s because for the most part you actually have to be good unlike the other trash maps.

i mean, to be fair, same could be said about halo 3 odst, was supposed to be DLC, then it became its own standalone game, but that had some quality to it.
Speaking with my wallet and not buying this one.. the fact they thought they could hawk me an 80 dollar DLC. I’d rather play nothing.

I never thought that call of duty was just a recycled game year to year until this year. It’s honestly sad.
Bought it, played it, stopped playing it after a few hours. I only play MP, but usually get at least a month out of it. As a long time CoD gamer (since CoD1 on PC) maybe I was turned off by the recycled maps. After a few hours of maps I've already played, I lost interest pretty quickly.
Of course they're proud of it, they cooked this slop.
since the last couple cod games i had a thought,what if all 3 dev team just conbine and at least make one good game
I guess technically speaking, lots of the recycled assets within this game were made many, many years ago, which would have made this game years in the making... next years COD will also be years in the making
ironically, MW3 (2023) has THE most writers out of the new and original trilgoy, heck maybe it has the most writers out of any COD game. which is so funny to me because this game is hella short.

I haven’t liked COD that much since BO2. When I saw they were calling another trilogy “Modern Warfare,” I saw it as a marketing stunt and was glad I didn’t pick it back up
True. It's all pretty confusing too when you go on the COD HQ there was like 5 different COD titles to choose from.. All of them having bad reviews
So I jumped back in to DMZ about a month ago after being away for a year. It took me a couple weeks to get good again. Then I started getting Proxy chat warnings? I run with proxy chat off 80% of the time. I noticed this was after a squad wipe or killing a player in general. Then I was banned shortly after. I will never again play an ACTIVISION game after they VIOLATED my rite to free speech. NOT HATE SPEECH. Just the usual DMZ banter. And allowing other players to police the chat content on DMZ is just a COWARDICE move in the first place. So now nobody has a mic in the game. And FRANKLY.. With out chat ? The game is unplayable.. RIP... DMZ... FU ACTIVISION...
They basically tweaked mw2 and called it a new ip, and attempted to resell it to everyone. (They're greedy) They forgot what modern warfare 2019 was all about, and the downward spiral from the original cods has begun again.
I find it hilarious that when sledgehammer developed the original mw3 over ten years, the main form of criticism the game faced was that it was too much like mw2. Flash forward to today and now sledgehammer has literally copied mw2 to make mw3.
Yes, totally agree, I genuinely enjoyed MW2 last year. The campaign felt like a proper sequel. They had a ton of content day 1 and I really enjoyed all of the changes they made from MW1. This game feels like a massive downgrade graphically and gameplay wise. The only thing I was happy to see was slide cancelling making a return and the maps/guns. Overall I think out of the 3, MW2 (2022) was def the best entry IMO.
