That's some hard and exhausting work. But guess who will be ready for that hard work when SHTF. Another form of prepping. I applaud you sir.

Where I work they drilled some 3 foot holes so that I can put these bad boys in and I did 50 rail road ties in two days

@@LibertyGarden they did these hole with a drill bid for a skitsteer then I had to take out the dirt with a post hole digger after that I had to line up the ties up to the hole and then lift the ties and put them in one by one and made sure they were leveled

If you ever get tired of katas, you can try dancing with railroad ties.

Is there any need to treat or tar the tie before putting it in the hole?

I could only find 4in diameter treated posts in my area and could not get a hold of the 6 inch posts but would like to build a h brace fence for my half acre to keep the livestock in my area out. Do you think I could still use the 4in posts?

@@LibertyGarden thanks for the tip. I will checkout Craigslist in my area and see if I can find any for sale. Only reason I wanted to set h braces is to run 4 stands of barbless cables from corner to corner and secure them with clip wire strainers with a bit of tension. Figured it will be cheaper than running the square fencing and I really don’t have the fencing tools to run the square fencing such as pullies and chain strainers. I also want it to last and I think the 4in posts will rot quicker than the 6in. I can still return them but it will delay my fencing project.
      Thanks for your feedback.

That one was 4' deep and about 12" diameter. You have to have room to pack the soil.

I'm already used to it. This is the 10th H brace I put. In a way, this was one of the easiest because it's out in the open so all I need is by the truck. The problematic ones are the ones by the creek where I have to walk tools, materials and water 400 yards just to start working.

@@LibertyGarden - I totally understand that. You know what the absolute worst things is? When you realize you forgot a tool, walk all the way back, pickup the tool, and then get back to the jobsite and realize you need one more! F**K is usually what comes out of my mouth and to stop that I starting doing checklists. Sometimes getting the job done is just murder.

@@LibertyGarden Thanks. I was wondering if you had one where you connect the cross brace and tighten the wires? I am in WY and need to build a fence using railroad ties. looks like some folks have tricks for tightening the wires on round posts. not sure if you had any special tricks to make sure the wire tightens up around the 6x8 in RR tie?

Some people pay for a gym membership then diet. I pity them. Build a fence and you can eat as much as you like and sleep like baby.

Seller, I'm looking for a utility tractor. This is the 10th assembly I do by hand. I don't mind the work, but the time is the problem. I could have put the entire 200 yard fence in one or two days if I didn't spend 45 minutes on each hole and got exhausted. But it sure is a hell of a workout both strength and cardio.
