    Big plus of this design using bits is that you can easily tailor it to your bike. Need Torx 20? Cool no worries, swap out the T25 for a T20. Can't do that with the multi-tool folders.

      Exactly. Plus some bits will be used more and harder and thus swapped out as needed. With an all-in-one, the Phillips or 4mm hex are often worn while the others are still pristine. At least with my Snap On all-in-one versions, I can replace/warranty individual blades.

      @@lastbesttool Another similar tool to the PB Swiss that you might like to check out is the Victorinox 3.0303 (normal) and Victorinox 3.0306 (ratcheting). Very similar concept, but even smaller, lighter and more compact than the PB Swiss. Has space to add 10 bits of your choosing. It doesn't have the tyre levers though.

    I think this is one if the better not a multi-tool compact bike tools out there. There is a huge benefit to having the wrench you need not connected to all the other tools. It can be really hard to get to some bolts in tight areas with a multi-tool. Having said that, I think I would have a real hard time tightening down my rear brake caliper, which is a T25, with the bulkiness of that bit adapter. It might actually not be possible. That's luckily not really likely to be necessary on the trail but I have found it to be an issue with anything other than a standard T25 l-wrench.

    Strong argument for buying a chain breaker that uses a 5mm Allen key, as many do, as this one is longer and better than the ones coming with chain tools and it eliminates duplication.
    I'd feel carrying this in my back pack is doable whether I'm biking or not and I like that aspect of it. Always having some tools with me...The addition of the tire levers adds just at a little weight and bulk and seems well worth it and pretty slick but of course if not biking could be left off.
    I also like the longer reach and leverage this has as compared to some bike multitools I've seen or used.
    Some have really short stumpy little nub like drivers on them. Sure most of the time that works but not always!
    I'd consider The Pedro's Six pack chain tool with this and leave it's short 5mm Allen key at home. You get some spoke wrenches with that tool as a bonus. It's pretty lightweight and inexpensive.
    Nice video.

    Silca owner Josh was following a race in Europe in the support car (dont think it was the tour de France, its in the video here, where e talks about his hex key set in a wood box). One of the riders needed an adjustment, he handed the mechanic a "blue tool" and the team mechanic refused it taking a pbswiss from his pocket. telling Josh later that pbswiss do not round the hex bolts.

    The adapter and Allen keys can be bought separately. I got the adapter and the orange Allen key. It's quite nice.
    PB Swiss also made this for Victorinox.
    Rujoi also has a version of this. Their Allen key is 1/4" though. And it's been out of stock for months on Amazon.

      Same here, the whole set is too bulky, the adapter is fantastic.

    I’ve had mine for years and use it in my road bike kit, love it. For mountain biking, I use other more robust tools including a short handle PB hex set up to 6mm.

    I consider the little PB 1/4"-5mm adapter a game changer.
    I have built an entire set of all kinds of 5mm hex tools around a couple of these, the variety of possibilities is endless.
    For the one drawback of the added diameter (and maybe the fact that the bits are only held by a magnet which is very strong though) you essentially get every bit attached to every form of screwdriver that exists in 5mm hex for a comparatively very low price.
    I did buy everything from small 100 degree allen key up to 500mm long T-handle just because this adapter does exist ^^

      Do you think a short ended 5mm PB Swiss Hex key would be long enough to fit into the 1/4-5mm adapter?

    There are certain bikes that are full of hex screws, even on the wheels. Surly Midnight Special comes to mind. This multi-tool is invaluable for those bikes. Great for travelling with the bike in the back of vehicle as well. The kind of thing one would leave in the vehicle, for pre and post ride adjustments.

    It is far cheaper in Switzerland! Around 25$. PB swiss tools are actually quite affordable for their quality. I don't get why they are so expensive in the USA.

    I only have the adapter, as the whole set is too bulky, there are better tire levers and the number of bits too limited.
    I combined the PB Swiss Tools bike adapter 470 M with a facom 5mm Allen key cut pretty small, an adapter to 4mm bits and a Topeak adapter 5mm to 8mm at the other end of the wrench. On top of the 8mm adapter another one from 8 to 10. The adapters lengthen the wrench for leverage. That's 4 sizes of hex keys in one.
    Otherwise 6 1/4 short stubby bits and 6 double sided 4mm bits complete the screwdriver kit. All together about 70g and packs really small. I have made a video on my channel about this EDC solution.
    I love the adapter, much better than the Victorinox Bit Wrench, which is great but heavier. The 1/4 inch sockets of the Vic Wrench are too deep for light weight stubby bits.

    The recent project farm test stated Wiha was the best fit (test included PbSwiss). In my research I could not find any standards tat PbSwiss are made to. Wiha is made to ISO / DIN (German standards) so as the best fit. I was just lucky enough to purchase New - old stock of wiha hex key set made to the DIN standard. Even Wera is not ISO standard

    cool little kit. A couple days ago I ordered a topeak Ratchet Rocket with a bit ratchet I plan to swap the bits out if they are inferior

  • @garyp.7501
    @garyp.7501 11 місяців тому

    I still prefer my Altoids tin with a Wera Ratchet, and hand picked Wiha bits. Or get the PrestaRatchet wrench and chain tool. Along with a 711L Hex bit and socket extender.
    Better tools than any of the sets so far. I made my own tool roll and put a 1/4" breaker bar in it, for really tough stuff and a Tekton 1/4" drive 1/4" hex magnetic bit holder.
    The PrestaRatchet like the Vim one doesn't fit inside the altoids tin, but the Wera one does.
    Still fun to see what you come up with. Not going to buy PB bits and one more 5mm hex key.

    Bike bolts need to be tightened to a certain level only especially Carbon frames and components. For alloy bikes not so much but still needs some torque wrench. I would recommend a similar product, Topeak Ratchet Rocket Light and you can customize the bits as well , plus it has a small torque wrench instead of an L type allen wrench. Around the same price as well.

  • @drengskap
    @drengskap 11 місяців тому +1

    Very nice, but as with all things PB Swiss, I'm not going to pay that price. You could get much the same functionality from a 1/4" breaker bar, a selection of bits and a pair of tyre levers.

    0:35 tyre "irons"? When they're plastic? Like 'Manchester' for bedsheets & 'China' for dinnerware; this is an obsolete term. Maybe 'tyre levers'. & the hook at the other end isn't for breaking the bead seal, it's for hooking around a spoke when the other end is engaged with the bead, to keep them from flicking into the weeds, never to be found again (they will, regardless). 2:35 it used to be that 5mm was the standard Allen key screw head aperture on bikes, but in the last 5-8 years, the big manufacturers have gone to 4 as the most common size on component fasteners, with 3, 2.5 & 2mm increasingly common. Through axle head holes are often a 5mm, or, annoyingly 6 (depending on the whims of the bike component specifier for a particular model: not standard throughout a manufacturer's range either, annoyingly). It needs a T30 as well (SRAM, Campagnolo & even Shimano nowadays use quite a few of these screws in their groupsets). Topeak & Wera have a similar kit with a little ratchet driver in them, for fewer $.
