But, seeing the kind of tech being put into this, I can see this being received well.
A lot of PC gamers play games console style on the couch, with a controller. The amount of people who play that way is large enough that Valve made Big Picture mode just for them.
I can assure you that Xbox fans (those of us with some damned sense, anyway) are in NO way upset about the Steam Deck. Quite the opposite. The Steam Deck is a portable gaming PC with integrated game controls and would be WAY better for streaming games from Game Pass on than a dinky ass phone. Also, as it's a PC, you can install Windows on it if you want. Which means, with Game Pass Ultimate, all the Windows PC games that are available on it (and NOT available on the console or on mobile streaming) can be installed and playable there too. Anywhere you want to take it. Valve just gave Xbox fans the handheld gaming device we've always wanted from Microsoft without Microsoft having to do any of the work building or marketing the thing.
It angers me because a lot of people are basically calling me stupid now for buying a switch instead of the steamdeck, like bro, i like the switch leave me the heck be.
I don't get why people are so fucking mad. I'm a console guy because I love couch gaming but even if the Steam Deck doesn't live up to its expectations, if it can run PC games portability at a decent framerate, it's still going to be amazing.
Its not even released and it already has the biggest game library out there. It is possible to emulate, play other games on other game libraries and other sources. You can also turn it into a proper pc if you have peripherals. The fact you can use it for work sets it apart from consoles
I don't understand why consoles even exist 🤷 It can be discontinued by the brand when they want. A pc is like versatile device which can be modified and can last the longest.
The only thing I didn't like about the Steam Deck is that Valve announced it 2 month after I got a portable PC, because I know it's gonna outperform mine by 50%.
I think it’s actually a really cool idea and I don’t get why people are flipping out about it. Just because this exists now doesn’t mean all the consoles are doomed
They don't need to have it! The trackpads and customization can substitute for a keyboard and mouse! I'd recommend looking at NerdCast's video on the Steam Controller (The Steamdeck will use a similar solution, but improved.)

Wow, what a dilema!

I've been getting into the PS2, PS3, PSP, and PSVita, but I still think Nintendo has a much better back catalogue. It's a shame they hardly ever re-release their games. I'm excited to get the Steam Deck so I can play all of my console exclusives in one place.
I’ve always stuck with Nintendo. I’ll wait to see what the thing is capable of and if it’s powerful enough I will completely legally play Mario odyssey on totally official hardware
One criticism I do have to agree with is the button layout. I've been playing Skyrim on switch lately and being able to move the camera stick with the bottom of my thumb while keeping the top of it in easy reach of X A and B is really comfy and natural yet it won't be possible on steam deck. Copyright violations are actually based af so I don't get the problem there
can't relate to it. , I would have to bend my thumb in a really weird way to use the stick and buttons at the same time on the switch. and what do you mean with copyright?
It’s hard to tell which will sell better. Now bare in mind, I’m a Nintendo fan so subconsciously, I will be a bit biased. Sorry for that. The main reason people buy the switch from my own understanding is the exclusives. Granted, steam has some exclusives, but not to the same extent. However, the Deck has doubled the space, and much more ram. So who knows? Edit: more thoughts came to mine. All extreme gamers can all agree, that keyboard and mouse reigns supreme. So why buy this when you can use your ultimate gaming PC? And at its price point, you can buy a half decent gaming laptop. I personally see this being a huge hit for the first month, then plummeted in sales. It will probably be as successful as the PS Vita. Again, who knows? In the end, I don’t care. I love Nintendo, and have never had a problem with them. I’ll probably end up buying the switch pro when it comes out. So who cares which is better? It really comes down to the your personal gaming ideas and gaming preferences (exclusive, keyboard and mouse vs controllers, genre, etc.) We’re all gamers in the end :)
I mean, for 750 (the price of re upgraded model) you can find laptops with 2060’s or 1660’s and better processors, both with some upgradability. I think the closest to the regular one is a Lenovo ideapad or Legion

what the Switch will have over the Deck is more portability, especially if you got the Lite. my Switch Lite fits in my purse and is pretty easy for me to pull out on the Metro on my way to work, meanwhile the Deck is going to need a full satchel or backpack to carry with you. This is the first time I saw the "worse ergonomics" claim, which even back on reveal was completely ludicrous. The Switch doesn't even have any ergonomics to speak off, being a flat board with nothing for your hands to properly hold on to, and you would need a Pro Controller or a third party joycon to even get any semblance of a comfortable grip, whereas the Steam Deck visibly has large grips that would be easier to grasp. The recent hands on by lots of reviewers definitely point out how much more comfortable the Steam Deck is to hold compared to the Switch.
People only buy Nintendo hardware for portability and the games. The steam deck is actually a good system that’s portable and has every game to ever come to steam.
I'm wondering, how often Nintendo fanboys are looking at the prices in their game store? New games $60, 3 years old games $60, ports of 15 years old games $60, do they even know it's not like that on PC? You can only find really big and recent games for that price in Steam, and moreover, you don't pay for any memberships to play online. The price difference will be payed off after buying 2-3 games in Steam instead of the eShop. And I'm not even talking about piracy.

Update 1.01 "Sorry steam deck is out of steam, something went wrong, can't play your game." Then people will trash it for being a PC because of all the unrealistic hype. It's like hyping up a laptop, it will have compatibility issues as any pc. People need to curb their hype about this, it's pretty experimental.
My biggest concern are the controls. For shooting games or games where aim matter, a joystick cannot replace a mouse for me. If I use a mouse, then I'll need a keyboard. I won't be able to play it as portably, but I hope I can just plug in a mouse and keyboard and do my gaming. I don't demand top performance for my games. If I were, I would just buy a whole stationary PC. That being said, this device will probably perform much better than my gaming laptop (which could do much better, but, oh well, it just enjoys making me wait).

Would you reccomend this for someone who wants to get into pc gaming?.
Or should i build my own first or buy pre built?.
@@xfiqf2812 well that depends what you're looking for and how much you want to spend
@@xfiqf2812 The thing is, if you want to extract the most performance for a given price point, building your own rig is the best route.
But if you *_only want to play games on PC_* (while doing some light weight office) and you're _highly constrained_ with budget then this might be a good option for you.
Lastly you also have to know what kind own perf target you'd expect from your build.
Ofc you also have to see the perf number from this device yourself.
This is assuming Windows drivers work for it ...
It's a custom chip... there's a chance the available windows drivers will be utterly garbage.
I'd still like to see Microsoft take a stab at it. I also really want to see a PSVita successor. It was actually such a cool console.
It angers me because a lot of people are basically calling me stupid now for buying a switch instead of the steamdeck, like bro, i like the switch leave me the heck be.
I think their mad because all of their consoles are gonna be emulated on it and damn well too
I play both on my switch and pc so this steam deck is my personal heaven
I don't get why people are so fucking mad. I'm a console guy because I love couch gaming but even if the Steam Deck doesn't live up to its expectations, if it can run PC games portability at a decent framerate, it's still going to be amazing.
Its not even released and it already has the biggest game library out there.
It is possible to emulate, play other games on other game libraries and other sources.
You can also turn it into a proper pc if you have peripherals. The fact you can use it for work sets it apart from consoles
this is as serious as serious sam... seriously serious...
I don't understand why consoles even exist 🤷
It can be discontinued by the brand when they want.

Other than RTS games, it's extremely rare to find a PC game without controller support.
They don't need to have it! The trackpads and customization can substitute for a keyboard and mouse! I'd recommend looking at NerdCast's video on the Steam Controller (The Steamdeck will use a similar solution, but improved.)
@@michaelawesome1864 Of course. That's not my point. For people who play exclusively with controllers. Most pc games have baked in controller support.

So I can either pay 600 for a ps5/xbox, plus 80 for the next gen ports, or I could pay 700 to play forza, halo, horizon zero dawn, dayz gone, pretty much any old nintendo game that nintendo somehow really doesn't want me to play and my other 1400+ games on steam both handheld or docked to my tv. Wow, what a dilema!
Personally I’m a console player, but I wish i had a pc. But when i heard about this I wished I could get my hands on it.
You still can! It's only 5$ for a reservation and while you will get it later and need a bit of time to reserve it after you get something on the steamstore(which can easily be something you intend to play on the deck) it's very easy to get a reservation

I was a ps guy all my life after being a Nintendo baby, steam got me on deck.

Copyright violations are actually based af so I don't get the problem there
Touch pad
can't relate to it. , I would have to bend my thumb in a really weird way to use the stick and buttons at the same time on the switch. and what do you mean with copyright?
*you can slap a keyboard on the steam deck
People seem to not realize the sheer amount of games pc has just because "they are not exclusives"
Also the trackpads actually can substitute a keyboard and mouse, which I believe will be a huge selling point
I'm interested in this for emulation and playing games on break at work but I'm open to a nice laptop if I can find something good at a similar cost
I mean, for 750 (the price of re upgraded model) you can find laptops with 2060’s or 1660’s and better processors, both with some upgradability.
I think the closest to the regular one is a Lenovo ideapad or Legion
@@no_4259
But laptops are a significantly worse form factor for mobile gaming. I would much rather play a Deck while laying in bed or on a plane or something.

Long behold I’ve had my steam deck for going on here now and I absolutely love this thing it has gone beyond my expectations for it
It angers the plastic box peasant because its a handheld with PC hardware in it.
Which is even more hilarious when you consider the fact that a console has the same components as a PC but is a feature restrictive box that has very limited functionality
A box to pay to play online
what the Switch will have over the Deck is more portability, especially if you got the Lite. my Switch Lite fits in my purse and is pretty easy for me to pull out on the Metro on my way to work, meanwhile the Deck is going to need a full satchel or backpack to carry with you.
Honestly the Switch Lite is even pushing it for me, a lot of times ill bring my PSP with me instead for something even smaller
a handheld that gives you everything you want and nintendo fanboys have a problem with it hmmm... that tells me who to ignore except that I already knew to ignore nintendo for the last 20 years.
Sales dont equal successful great consoles... it equals successful console... justin bieber is a successful pop artist... he is definitely not the best and could easily be called the worst... this is the switch
I have a switch and a reasonable PC, and i'm going to buy this for sure. I bought the switch because of Nintendo wonderful exclusives and for being portable, and having a second switch that runs all steam games would be really cool
Already preordered one for me (possible heavy update)
Lifelong console player (who occasionally does low-spec PC gaming) here that is quite excited about mine; pre-ordered as soon as I was able to and I'm very excited to have a large backlog of PC games available that I missed out on for years.
It triggers console boys because its another PC which they know is way better than console but its handheld and disguised as a console which they cant handle.
I think the nintendo fanboys were the worst when complaining about it. Playstation and Xbox might be complaining but it's nothing compared to the nintendo fanboys.
I want to see someone emulating Botw on this
Ayaneo, onexplayer does that already. But anyway why would be emulating since pc has more interesting games, even make the other handheld owner keeps begging port on comment section for it. No offense tho

I don’t see the hate, like people consistently underestimate the power of a pc especially in handheld form. And the switch is technically a tablet pc just significantly less powerful than the steam deck. Anytime a well known and respected company makes a move like this fanboys and sheep’s get mad. And they talk about price? $60 games that came out over 2 years ago?
I have played all the mainstream consoles in the past couple of years, and this is something i would love to have!
Steam Deck is 100% worth it.
This thing can potentially run the fucking PS3 Emulator and if it can handle emulating the switch.
i can emulate almost everything besides maybe ps4 (if emulator is still in production), xbox, and the new age consoles
A lot of these tweets and comments only shows how very little many of these people know about PC gaming in general, and to be fair I’ve heard this kind of stuff from PC gamers when it comes to consoles as well over the years.
The best people who know about PC and console gaming would be people who play both consoles and PCs while not being fanboys...in other words true gamers.
More how little they know about gaming in general. Imo hate a brand but never become loyal to it.

As a nintendo switch user I feel like this will surpass the switch by quite a mile if it comes out as a success
It really won't. Others tried with power and they all failed. Steam deck won't even sell 1000 units
@@angelvillegas9604 it wont out sell the switch but do you really think the steam deck will only sell 1k units?
@@Abyzzol yea it's niche at best and limited.

A man of culture
Nintendo fanboys: its copying the switch
A switch a portable console with a screen
GPD WIN: pocket PC - smaller PC variation
Steam deck:PORTABLE PC- full PC with screen
Switch: CONSOLE WITH A SCREEN -not a PC it's a CONSOLE
Do people not realize that "copying the Switch" is a great thing? Who the fuck could realistically be upset about that?
Update 1.01 "Sorry steam deck is out of steam, something went wrong, can't play your game."
Then people will trash it for being a PC because of all the unrealistic hype. It's like hyping up a laptop, it will have compatibility issues as any pc. People need to curb their hype about this, it's pretty experimental.
Already reserved! I can not wait for this thing to drop :-)
There is actually gyro controls, which allows you to move the physical console for fine pointing moment!
And the trackpads can actually substitute for the keyboard, I recommend NerdCast's video on it!!!

And the switch looks like the Game Gear.
Nobody can claim first on that one. Except maybe the Atari Lynx
To the last tweet, what does this mean about a pc gamer would not like the steam deck becausr don't like using consoles in general? Is because of the keyboard + mouse vs controller? Because you can use keyboard and mouse on the steam deck.
I know that the Valve's software and hardware divisions are different, but Valve still has to allocate resources to those teams, so I think the point still stands. Although obviously we aren't entitled to Valve making and updating games for us.
