  • "Never Let the Past Ruin the Future" is a lecture by Manly P. Hall and was recorded in front of a live audience on Dec. 14, 1986. At 85 years of age, Hall's voice and mind are still just as strong as ever. Also, the message is just as relevant today as it was then.

Try this illusion ok. Be born to a woman who's never known her father and her newly wed husband dissappers on her & the child. The woman in her own childhoods was raised by her mother's 2nd husband and later that child is raised by a fictitious grandfather who at the age of 15yrs old sends him off on his way to take care of himself forever. And btw no one wants to see him (child) again. Now you tell me put yourself in those shoes and see how they fit

This lecture contains profound psychological insight, delivered in approachable, practical terms with abiding empathy and hope and a dash of dry humor. Manly Hall is a wise teacher and guide whose work deserves to be better known. “The neurotic must not forget the past but must interpret it correctly … transform neurotic pressure into gratitude … one’s flaws and errors are the sources of growth … those who triumph over the weaknesses in themselves are the world’s best people … .” Alarmingly simple truisms.

Really coming at the best Moment in my Life. I am 25 now and I just can not decide what I should be or do in Life. I am currently studying mechanical engineering after working as a mechanic for 5 years. But I do not really like the work of an engineer. I am having more fun doing Something practical.
I could go back into the industry where I would make very good money. And I would Like it because I could finally live an Independent Life. Or I could become a Police man, because I like the dutyfullness and I am pretty Athletic. Or I could become a teacher, or a lecturer at my University, because I am really good at teaching, and I like to talk in Front of people. But I am more interessted in History or psychology then engineering. But studying History would take me at least another five years.
There are just too many possibilities. And I feel time pressuring me. I finally want to grow up and be an adult. I Just dont know how to make a decision.
    Any advice?

    • @noahbrown4388

As a 30something/failed-to-launch I would say stick with what makes you $. Mechanic or mechanical engineering is very practical and will always be in need as long as humans exist. Be frugal, live within your means and invest the resources you garner into the things you REALLY enjoy and are interested in. Your passion and your career don’t necessarily have to be the same thing (and often aren’t for most people).
I guess what I’m saying is concentrate on accumulating fk off money 😄 which, looking back, is what I wish I had done at your age. That’s my 2 cents - hope this is helpful and good luck! 😉

Go to wiki how and search finding your life purpose or what to do with your life / vocation.
      This is a achievable endeavor.
Yes you have many strong skills. But your not listening to your true heart, rather your thinking allot.
You need both brain n heart and maybe gut too, but at least heart.
How to find your life’s vocation.
      Google that.
Often it’s concentric circles of skills ect.
But at the end of the day, put your hands on your heart n breath deep and take your time.
Set each idea into your heart…
See what feels n looks true to you.
Ask for guidance and true sings.
      What’s happy at:
      25 years old
      30
      35
      40
      45
      50
      55
      60
      65
      70
      75
      80
      90
      100
      120
      ?????????
If your a cop at 25 what’s that look n feel like when 35 or 55?
      Same for engineer?
Plato spoke of young man’s strength n body excellence. So cop could be cool.
      You could do several careers.
      But I understand your pain.
      Truly I do.
Your learning to make choices. That in itself is the main learning.
Your career is a subset of that:-)
In any job you can do pro speaking at some point.
What service do you want to give to life n people??
What you like in you? We got that… but what do you like in others?
Also what’s fun, what’s enjoyable? What is happy?
You could be happy as cop or engineer or what ever.
Peer groups are different. Those you contact too.
You likely have the answer already but suppress it.
Note my questions and n suggestions. Take them gently but seriously. Answer each one like they are truly profound.
It’s your life. Exercise the seriousness of it. What brings you true happiness in service?
Where does the time evaporate? Cus your so engaged ?
GOALS by Brain Tracey is also stimulating book on setting goals and living n exploring them.
      Set aside enough time sir.
Even if it took you 1-2 years to answer my question truly you’ll be a advanced being.
But theses question can be answered in 1 after noon or what have you.
      When is your energy healthiest??
Aim to do these exercises then. You could repeat it again and again.
Your finding… then your sitting with it…. Letting it sink in.
      Eventually selling yourself on yourself.
Tell few to no one but those who fully support you.
You can take toxic input of any kind during transition thinking.
Stay safe and go your work. Be well young man 🎉

What does a person do when they must come to terms more and more with the idea they’ve always known these things, most of it more or less at least, and it’s merely been a matter of squeezing the right words in the right sequence into the shortest amount of time possible so that I could see enough of it to piece it together… I feel perhaps most would be like “I’m driven to produce my own works” which I’m not, I am, I guess I’m just wondering how best one such person might go about figuring out what is calling them, like writing sort of seems appropriate and logical, but it doesn’t resonate very strongly
