- Today we fabricate our own Torque boxes for the Barracuda. A little bit of Kiwi ingenuity! We save a few bucks and don't have to wait weeks for parts.

I love his "no big deal" attitude. Most of us would run screaming from a car with structural rust (see also the Mustang), but Kiwi goes about it like it's as simple as changing a spark plug.

Great episode! I know these are a couple years old, but I'm just now watching them.
I have one of those bead rollers and I hated the crank. I've seen people use old steering wheels, but I didn't have one. But I did have some old electrical conduit. I made a hub (retired machinist here) to fit the machine and cut the conduit. I just bent it around by hand mostly and it's not a perfect circle, but it's close enough. I then cut 3 or 4 straight pieces for the spokes and welded it all up. All in about an hour, hour and a half. It made it SO much easier to do bead rolling by myself.

I'm sure we have all found patches welded over the holes.As the saying goes rust never stops and it will still keep marching away a case of kicking the can down the road. That horrible feeling of cutting out an old small patch, or perhaps a patch on an older patch ,that has been covered over and you find your back at square one with no footwell to speak of! I like your do it once and do it right approach, the sign of a true master at work.

@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 l watched this video twice - the 2nd time l caught myself counting the wrench turns at the bead roller...a stick shift LA engine in an A body is a great performance/handling package (plenty good enough for me) l was just wondering how you were going to hold/steer the car straight up the strip with a punched out six-pack wedge engine - now l know

Love the channel kiwi fantastic fabrication I hope you don’t mind me giving you a tip but I’m just a dumbass boilermaker but turn your fine settings up 2 and wire speed down a touch it will allow more heat to penetrate into the joint which will a lot stronger and a flatter weld to where it keyholes the material and burns the whole way through. Give it a try mate you won’t be disappointed
That's good advice. It can be tricky to really burn it in when your dealing with 50 year old thinned out metal and cheap Chinese metal......
You made that look sooo easy! Maybe Tony would like the old floor pan, he likes holes in everything! I love watching metal fab, learn a lot and would like to have the time to do a little myself.

Aussie Valiants had that reinforcing,, so did Kiwi ones, or at least they should do.
As for truck engines?? Keep it small block. Will handle a LOT better 340/360 with alloy heads etc to lose some weight and make similar to big block power.
Nice work. After having to do lots of reworking of the repo torque boxes in my 66 mustang, this doesn’t seem like any more work.
And, leaving your “tag” inside is a nice touch. I worked at Cadillac in the 80’s and found little surprises left inside of caddies by assembly staff. Excellent!

God you work fast Kiwi - not like Mrs "It won't heppen overnoight , but it wool heppen!" Rachel Hunter (remember that old 90s shampoo ad on TV?) LOL .. anyway, have you tried those 3M Strippit pads / discs ? They come in red, green and white colours for coarsness and look like those old round hair combs, they look rubbery and I thought they wouldnt do anything when I first was introduced to them, but boy was I wrong! They take the paint and rust off metal like a hot knife thru butter and don't hex up the metal like grinding discs do. Well worth a shot..

Why didn't you weld the top or the front brace to the metal at the front of the foot well? Unless you are going to do it from the bottom side to help prevent water penetration. Just wondering looks great and not something I had considered doing to my 64 barracuda but will likely need. My current plan is to in a modern hemi and trans so it will have around 400 hp.
I'll get it from underneath when I weld the Pinch weld at front of the floor pan together. The modern Hemi will be a great swap!!
Where did you get the reproduction floor panels from? Doing a 67 VC V8 here in Aus with no floor.
From memory it was AMD. Classic Industries also have them. halves and full
