Great news is that Snarky Puppy are recording another live audience 'studio concert' this October. Btw, I dig your channel. You're one of the reactors out there who loves music rather than loving clicks, and you're a musician so you can get under the hood and understand what you're hearing. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for checking out the video and for the extremely kind compliment! I'm SUPER excited to see what comes out of that upcoming session in October!
Totally agree. I like a number of reactors - all for different reasons. Listening along with Jonathon is like back in the day coming home after school, getting together with my buddies, throwing on a couple of albums and grooving out. It's something I've rarely done as an adult so this is cool as s**t.
Every time that guitar solo kicks in I just get these visions of an Ace Combat style dog fight in the clouds, and it blows me away every time. This entire album is a thing of musical genius. Also, Larnell FREAKING Lewis... what a hero, man.
When that Saks rift came in then the base with the Saks riff then the horns came in then the guitar riff Lsrnell Lewis styling on those drums and tearing them down. Oh yeah that's what that was.
I simply cannot stop watching reactions to the song because it’s jazz but taken almost to progressive metal. And I wasn’t really sold on the band until I heard this song because I was like OK I think I can get behind it maybe and then I kept seeing this in comments and other videos and I’m like OK and I should check this one out since everybody appears to be recommending it and I was like holy crap. After hearing the song I bought the album immediately.
Brother, I've watched a few of your Snarky Puppy vidz. MANY times. And, I gotta say, your reactions bring me so much excitement just because YOU get so excited and moved by their music. Man, it brings tears to my eyes... EVERY TIME!!!! So, you keep bringing it, bro!!! I LOVE to see others get excited over some GREAT music!!!
Thank you so much for checking out the reaction and for the recommendation! That one is quickly becoming a popular request lol, I've added it to the list and look forward to checking it out very soon. LOVING Larnell Lewis!
That zildjian when he just murdered that, even the people sitting and listening was amazed. He is one of the best I've seen in a long long time. He can just listen to a jam and play our folks what can I say but damn!!!!!!
I am so happy....all of you musicians were BORN, I really do. I love you guy's parents, for birthing such amazing musician specialists into this mundane world of hell. Life became tolerable from just experiencing this intricate musicianship and master class contribution. I don't understand why music does to the brain and spirit as it does. But I NEED it and can't balance out my life without it. It's another language another form of LOVING someone if thee creators want it to be. For my mental health.....please stay safe and healthy.
My high school percussion ensemble teacher exposed me to this group with this song! This is definitely my favourite piece of theirs! Nostalgia for my teacher showing this to me definitely plays a part in my favouritism, but it’s just such a bouncy and fun piece!
Dude you've _got_ to check out some stuff off of their latest album, Empire Central. Trinity is the most popular among reactors, and for very good reason, but my personal favorite is RL's. There's sadly no video of that... (yet? **crosses fingers** ) but it's just so badass. By the way, there are _three drummers_ on that album. Plus at least three percussionists. Together, they sound like one giant kit, as tight as any competitive drumline. Also, Take It! (feat. Bernard Wright) is quite probably the last thing ever recorded of him, and the last time he appeared on camera. He died two months after that in a traffic accident.
Thank you so much for checking out the video! I don't disagree with that in the least; Larnell Lewis is probably the musician that has drawn the majority of attention from me in all the SP reactions I've done so far because he is absolutely mind-blowing, most especially considering the fact that he was a last minute fill in. But as a guitarist/bassist, I really felt the presence of those instruments right with Larnell's drumming as to what grabbed my attention. Groove is absolutely key! :)
The band agreed with you, but about the album as a whole. There's a documentary focused on this album creation where several mention not being all in with the compositions as they rehearsed without a drummer. Once he came in everything locked into place!
This was the song that brought me onboard the Snarky Puppy train! I have now learned that it was not an original idea of his, but Larnell Lewis having a "snare drum" on the right side of his kit completely confused and fascinated me the first time I watched this. And the second time. And the 100th time!
Thank you so much for checking out the video! No, not the first time it's been done, but he still manages to make it a new experience altogether lol. Larnell is absolutely amazing!
I’ve watched this one dozens of times and it still makes me shake my head in disbelief. Larnell’s fills on this one are just plain stupid. No human being should be that funky.
Thank you so much for checking out the reaction! I know right! Larnell absolutely blows my mind with both his creativity and his fluid delivery, he's confident about trying things and plays it with the right dynamic touch and groove to make it work.
Love your reaction! I’ve had this album for a couple of years now, and it’s still my fav by far. The thing about Snarky is that different songs grows on you at different time. Also the visual adds so much to the music. You see them with reactions, goof around, and also bury their heads and put it all out there. Great technical skills, arrangement, and awe inspiring creativity. Makes me want to be better at what I do!
Thank you so much for checking out the video! Same here, they definitely inspire me to push myself to excel in my musical abilities; an absolutely fantastic group of musicians!
One of the best reactions to this song yet, you did indeed save the best till last. Maybe now your ready for listening to the album they recorded after this one, it's called Sylva, it was recorded with the Metropole Orkest, think We like it here, but on a much bigger scale.
Thank you so much for coming back to check out this reaction! I'm definitely amped up about exploring more of their catalog, so I'd definitely be open to checking some things out from that album. Any particular tunes off of it you'd like to see on the channel?
Thank you man! That's awesome of you to say! It makes me feel really good knowing that someone is getting something out of the content I put out, so thank you very much! :)
If you listen to that guitar solo (the opening portion) and closed your eyes, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the actual sound of that guitar and style from the way Lee Ritenour plays. Ritenour is very well known for his association with the GRP label, in which he is the name in the "R." everyone in music is influenced by someone else at some point. I'm not saying it isn't original, but it's an exact sound equal to that of Ritenour. After that, man he's on his own and it's amazing.
Haha, no lol, that's the first time I've heard that one. I've been likened to Rick Rubin by a few commenters lol, and even Charles Manson one time 😬 (yeah, that was weird 😅), but never Steve Earle before now. Thank you so much for checking it out!
Thank you so much for checking out the video! I feel the same lol, every time I listen to/watch these guys, I'm completely floored by their expertise and energy!
Snarky Puppy just announced they will be recording a new live in studio record in October. They are selling tickets to be able to attend the different sets for the recording
I'm so so glad that they are going back to this format of recording there albums like that, their last two albums although good, lacked the energy they get from having an audience in the room, I'm so happy I can't wait.
@@JonathonThamesMusic My pleasure! I love Snarky Puppy and I love your reactions. There are 3 more releases by them in the live in studio/DVD format. Ground Up, Tell Your Friends, and Sylva (with the Metropole Orchestra) All are truly amazing! There is no Larnell Lewis on them but their old drummer Robert "Sput" Searight was a beast as well. There is also a DVD called Real to Reel-Snarky Puppy and Country Fried Soul Band. It is a VERY early live performance in Snarky Puppy' s career. Back when they were college students. It's super hard to find but we'll worth it. I had to order a copy from a public access television website. Wonderful stuff!
mabye my fav Snarky song is Kite! I love Outlier and this one, but im a huge movie buff, and Kite is really slow, dark and interesting tune more like a movie score and the fluglehorn solo is just from another world! Could be straight from Westworld or something other dark tv.
Thank you so much for checking out the reaction and for that recommendation! I'm also a huge movie buff (I actually have a movie review channel as well lol) and would definitely be interested in checking that one out! I love really atmospheric, mood/vibe building music...in case you couldn't already tell haha.
If you liked that guitar solo, please check the last song of this set. I mean, the whole show is great but the solo he plays to lead out is incredible. ua-cam.com/video/i2QV5KwwXiM/v-deo.html
Hey dude. Just wanted to say I love your reactions. I go headbanging with you. I subscribed to my first reaction channel. Might I suggest reacting to Tom Waits? For heartwrenching ballad, try Georgia Lee. For banger, check out Chicago. For pure weirdness? Whats He Building In There.
Thank you so much for checking out the video and for headbanging along lol! :) You absolutely may! I have big appreciation for what I have heard from Tom Waits, but I have to admit, I haven't heard all that much, so I'd DEFINITELY be interested in checking out each of those at some point.
UA-cam lack the intelligence to react to music not involving a pretty child voice because "talent shows" require that idea of "talent" being cute and "star" material. Thank you for being an antidote to that narrow commercial POV. Music can be talents playing their hearts out TOGETHER. Of course, we love a young talent being impressive - but we also can see how awesome a whole gang of talents can work together (I know - these days that sounds probably too socialistic for some). It is a fucking band making music together - that is no political statement it is how music was invented. It is likely how civilisation came to be - the act of working together and play off each other - like a Jazz band.
A jazz band that isn't afraid to rock. Love these guys!!
