You probably missed some reference here ☺️The Odin Elixir is an actual beverage here in Italy (Cedrata Tassoni) 😅 Giorgio Mastrota was a huge salesman in TV in the 90s. The Mid Garda Lake is a pun between Midgard (the earth for Norseman) and Garda Lake. There's also a reference to an episode in which Giulio Andreotti (former PM) blacked out during an interview and the presenters tried to woke him up telling "presidente, presidente" 🤣 Simply genius here
Note, when they start singing in falsetto at 1:58, that's a reference to an Italian song, "Su di noi" by Pupo. Which of course is one of the furthest thing from heavy metal ever XD.
ok, now... this song has a lot of references, going from old tv spot, to music, to (of course) traditional dishes First of all, of course, the title: Polenta Taragna is a quite common dish in the north of italy (mostly in Valtellina, a little valley near the Alps), and "ragnarock" is the Viking apocalypse. The whole song is a mixture of things from Valtellina and Bergamo (like Trepalle (which is not a volcano, sadly), Sondrio, the word "pota"...) and the typical Viking culture. (a few wordplay may be the title itself or the Midgarda lake (Midgard is a realm in viking mythology, and the Garda lake is not far from Bergamo) Then, the guest artist: Giorgio Mastrota is a quite famous italian telemarketer (mostly during the 90's), and Nanowars already wrote a song about him (Giorgio Mastrota: the Keeper of Inox Steel). It turned out that Mastrota really liked the song, and kept in touch with the band until they decided to do a collab. And another trivia, this is the first time Mastrota sings anything in a music album (he sung quite some time ago an old jingle for some spot, but nothing more) Another thing, songs references. They love to do this, and this time they took 2 song: "Su di noi" by Pupo (which you can hear in both pre-chorus, and is also referrenced lyrically with the "su di lei, ci metto la provola" part) and an older jingle for the Cedrata tassoni, which appear also in the song (the Odin's elixir). In that particular part, the first 2 lines are a direct reference to that old jingle, and they changed "do, build, create" with "pillage, plaster (which is also a reference for Bergamo, because a lot of italian construction worker comes from that area), feast" Last but not least, the "presidente" line. Giulio andreotti, a former italian PM, suddently stopped during an interview, scaring the host of that program (who tried to call him quite a few times) and staring at nothing. Now, because Polenta is quite a hard dish to digest, Mr. Baffo/Gandalf was spacing out probably after eating too much polenta, and Giorgio tried to wake him up with that word Of course, being the "Italian Folk Metal" album, every song takes from the "italian modern folklore" (like the Cedrata Tassoni, or soccer, or the rose sellers at the corners of the street) and are meant for their italian fans, but I'm always happy to see that foreigngers can still enjoy their song and be interested about them. If you have a particolar part of the song itself that is unclear, or want to learn more about this folklore or the Valtellina (trust me, if you can somehow, try the polenta. it won't disappoint you), i'd be glad to explain everything i can
Great song! Thank you for your reaction! Yes, they're not full time musicians. I hope you'll manage to interview them, it would be very funny and interesting to see.
Another great reaction!! There are a lot of references to italian facts, songs, people and places mixed with nordic mythology in a folk pagan metal style. Valtellina with Vahlalla becomes vahlaltellina, Garda lake with Midgard MidGarda lake, polenta taragna with ragnarok the song title and many more..Odin, valkiries, ginnungagap.. and we are talking about a dish. Gŕeat song and thank you from Italy
Polenta taragnarock is a combination of the words rock and polenta taragna, a dish from northern Italy made with corn flour, buckwheat flour and cheese.
Great! I really like this song. I hope you'll do "The call of Cthulhu" next! 😁 If you want more medieval sounding songs like this I highly recommend you to check out Feuerschwanz! It's a german medieval folk rock band with great sense of humor!
Indeed!! Feuerschwanz has tons of good and new Videos from their new Album (which hit #1 in the German Album Charts btw. xD) Please do so. Just do any of them :D
Awesome reaction as always!🤘 For the next song I suggest "vegan velociraptor" or "tooth fairy", the first one is so stupid that becomes brilliant. The 2nd one is about Mario Draghi (Italian prime Minister) who's trying to lower the inflation caused by the tooth fairy. they're both hilarious!!
Nanowar of steel is so good! as others mentioned Feuerschwanz makes music of the same genre and they are amazing, they just hit #1 in the German album charts. and they are commedic to, amazing musicians, and they produce high quality videos to react to. So feuerschwanz is perfect for youtube reactions (and real fun for you i hope) :)
Obviously if you don't understand Italian it's not easy to "feel" the vibe... You have to react to "call of Chtulu", "vegan velociraptor"and "Ironmonger"... but consider that there are almost 50 songs to listen!
La Polenta Taragna is a dish from the borderlands of Northern Italy where Germanic languages meet Northern Italian dialects and there are a series of languages that share a common heritage in Italic and Germanic languages. I did the Bernina Express in the area The train goes over spectacular scenery between Switzerland to Italy and ends in this region. These areas are very proud of their culture. It was good quality folk metal which is more a German thing. The nearby autonomous region which German speakers call Südtirol but the Italians call Alto Adige was Austrian until the end of WW1 and is still 60+% German speaking. There are a lot of references I didn't get either as they are topical Italian references.
Next Ironmonger...or Heavy Metal Kibbles (in this case please react to The Director's Cut version, you will be blow away by a song that it seems to be an outtake from Judas Priest's Painkiller...)
This explains why they aren't big as a live act. They simply don't have the time for it, even though they have great potential. This also reminds me to a Dutch band called Heidevolk who are history teachers during their daily lifes making songs about history. Info likes this makes my love such bands even more, knowing that they do it just for the fun.
Just to think a few videos ago they were rapping in Spanish then a short time later there is a uniporn gracing the horizon. The very definition of diversity. Just like little big such a wide range of talent
Great reaction. Anyway, can i request your reaction to superb band from japan? The band is call "Lovebites" They all The Beautiful Queens heavy metal band right now in the earth. They are really really World class musicians. Phenomenal. And they have a lot diehard fans like me😁. The fans called Wolfpack. The song is "Set the world on fire" Hope you check out, and can enjoy it too. Big thanks🙏

...e che su Mastrota i Nanowar of steel hanno creato la canzone più iconica del loro repertorio.
Come pure citazioni di canzoni pop italiane
And they transformed Valtellina into Valhaltellina. >
Polenta taragna and Ragnarock
And the fake “live comments”… 😂😂😂
Grande,ottimo riassunto 🤣🤣🤣
Note, when they start singing in falsetto at 1:58, that's a reference to an Italian song, "Su di noi" by Pupo. Which of course is one of the furthest thing from heavy metal ever XD.
Agree! It totally caught us off guard. 😂✌️

e anche opere artistiche come l'urlo di Munch e l'Ultima cena di Leonardo da Vinci.. scusate se è poco :)
The song "Giorgio Mastrota" is how the legend of the true steel 18/10 begins.
Fun fact, this song was entirely written togheter with their fans during one of their streams, during the height of the pandemic here in Italy!
Really?? That’s awesome!

I recommend "heavy metal kibbles", "quest for Carrefour" (even though it's just a simple lyrics video), and "tooth fairy", too.
"Heavy Metal Kibbles" is really great for ppl like me who love Judas Priest. :D I also really dig "Tooth Fairy" :D
Polenta taragnarock is a combination of the words rock and polenta taragna, a dish from northern Italy made with corn flour, buckwheat flour and cheese.
and also a word play on Ragnarok

This has been my happy song ever since it came out
Giorgio Mastrota is the best Italian telemarketer.... And also very popular and very nice, we love him

They make such epic tunes of such mundane things. Awesome.
Right?
Gotta say those guitar solos are pretty awesome. Reminded me of Yngwie Malmsteen . Kudos, guys
“Vegan Velociraptor”and “Call of Cthulhu” are the next ones…🤣👍🏻
🤘🏻🐓🐓
Nothing richer than a polenta in winter with quite a face Nothing richer than a polenta in winter with plenty of meat. Sauce and plenty of cheese 🤤🤣🤣
It's almost impossible to get all the references, if you're not from Northern Italy or at least from Italy. Anyways, cool reaction!
Yeah feel there was a bit lost in translation
You also should check BardoMagno Cerveza e Latifondo.
If you succed to interview Nanowar of Steel, that would be epic! BOOOM! God Luck!
Thank you! We would love that!
Thanks for react to this! 👍🤣
It was fun!
you guys really have to check out "metal was my first love" from the german band J.B.O. the references to other metal bands are just awesome
If i'm not wrong, one of them ( or more ) also play in another band called BardoMagno that make "middle age" alike music 🙂, naturally, comic music...
Si...il grande chitarrista Mohammed Abdul ( vero nome Valerio Storch) milita in entrambe le formazioni.
Meravigliosamente 🎸
Great reaction! BTW I was laughing about the "straw yellow elixier of Odin" as it looked like pee. >< Iron Monger btw! :D
It looked like pee, but cedrata is a great citrus-based soda

Next? "The call of Chtulhu" of course

some imperfection in translation... "pota e mona bef!", is not "Fuck it's very good!", but sounds more like "shut up bitch and drink!"
Presidente? Presidente? ... :P
