The IRS developed the Streamlined Filing Compliance Procedure to help taxpayers catch up on taxes and expanded their services to help Americans overseas file overdue US tax returns. If you qualify, you will not be subject to penalties such as failure-to-pay, failure-to-file, or FBAR penalties!
Also, the program allows you to file amended returns to claim missed returns on qualified foreign pension plans. To complete the procedure, you need to file 3 years of tax returns, and 6 FBARs without any failure-to-file or FBAR penalties.
MyExpatTaxes is the most affordable and quickest way to use the Streamlined Procedure. 💸

In the video, it says to qualify for Streamline you “must have been physically outside the US for 330 days for one of the 3 years.”
But from what I understood on the IRS website, it says you must be outside for 330 days EACH year.
I’ve been living abroad since 2019, but visited the US for 6 weeks in 2021 and 3 weeks in 2023…would I still qualify for the Streamlined?

As you may or may not know, it's in the back of U.S. passports. Last page, 4th one down.

Can you clarify? What is in the back of U.S. Passports

Hi Adgurl! We'll jump in here. There is a declaration in your passport that informs US citizens of their tax filing duty. You can see it here in the blog:

I have been using my married name for my employment and joint bank account but everything else is under my maiden name (passport, SSN, UK visa/ILR). Will this be an issue when filing?

    • @MyExpatTaxes

Hi there! The name must match the SSN on your tax return.

@@AriannaChallinor Oh, and for Streamlining specifically - it's perfectly fine to file your Streamlined returns under your maiden name, then request a new SSN with your updated name and file under your married name in future years.
