These drug addicts love story was crammed down our throats and dragged on for 45 minutes and are we were suppose to feel sympathy for them? 😂 The original only needed snippets of their time together, to convince us that they are in love and feel sympathy and pain for them.

Not to mention in the OG Shelly was tenants rights advocate who had started petition for better living conditions AND they were like adopted parents for sarah! Now those were some good people. Sorry not sorry but a couple of junkies who just met isn't the same.

It was hard not to think about OG Eric and Shelly while watching this new one. The 1994 version had such better characters, and getting to see moments of them happy together only made their deaths more tragic.
This new couple was boring and I have no idea why they liked each other.

I think why the original relationship between Eric and Shelly worked so well was both because many of those scenes were based on real moments between James O'Barr (the writer of the original comic) and his fiancé. But the briefness of them also adds a biitersweet trahedy to it. Like you wamt to see more of it, you want to see Eric and Shelly being cute and happy together. But you're reminded that Shelly was murdered, which helps put you in the same headspace as Eric. Like you want to see him kill the pieces of trash that killed them, making the gang members deaths more satisfying.
Safe to say I'm never watching the remake, I think I'd cry and die of dehydration. I'll stick with the original

the horse scene is in the comic and it's a scene that, in that context, represents the terrible feeling of impotence that comes with a tragedy that you cannot prevent because you have no control over the situation, it basically mirrors the feeling that Eric felt when he saw his fiancé being brutalized in front of him with no power to stop it, which probably mirrors the feeling that the author, James O'barr, felt with the tragedy of his own dead fiancé, who was killed by a drunk driver, though in this movie which I haven't watched it yet, I don't know what's supposed to represent lol

Thanks for explaining this! That makes sense and I wish the film had fleshed that part of his character out more. The horse scene in the film is a brief snippet with no explanation, and it felt out of place.

The horse scene is from the comic, something to do with trauma, (might have been the catalyst for the 2024 version of Eric Draven to become an addict? Don't know, don't want to know, don't wanna suffer through this reboot.
I love the original Brandon Lee version, one of my favorites. James O'barr wrote the comics, or at least the original crow, (I'm not as familiar with the comics as I am the 94' movie) after his wife got killed in a car accident by a drunk driver, so the comic and the later 94' movie were his way of processing the grief

  • @Stuart267

As a recovered addict I can say with confidence. A drug addict is NOT a sympathetic person. Just from the synopsis of this film I can tell that very few people if any will relate to the "anti-hero" not to say Skarsgård isn't a good actor because he was great in IT chapters 1 & 2 & was very hateable in John Wick 4, but he is no Draven/Crow. Less said about FKA Twig's performance the better. I saw snippets of this film & every line she uttered sounded like she was mainlining Thorazine fitting given that the movie was centred around a dirty weekend with 2 junkies. 1994's The Crow is a movie that has stood the test of time even 30 years later, its look is iconic, not one of the sequels could match it, both from a look standpoint & from an ensemble cast of memorable characters topped off with the late great Brandon Lee.

    • @tylertheguy3160
      @tylertheguy3160 4 місяці тому

I think there's a chance this might be one of those situations where they changed the story a lot after Skarsgard signed up and he was stuck doing the movie anyway. During production the studio changed the ending so they'd have one that was more open for a potential sequel, and Skarsgard has outright said that he doesn't like that they did that.

Hmm. I ponder whether you ever were an addict with that take. The lack of nuance is expected from those who just have not been there but to hear a recovering addict with such an icey take on addiction itself is...off putting (for the lack of a better term). Will any film ever replicate the depth of the original? Not in my opinion. That said, the gatekeeping of this graphic novel & the original film is just old at this point.

Turns out it was my friend who I not only paid for his first hit but also his last. My fan theory of the 1994 movie "The Crow" makes Sarah an essential character. My theory is that Eric and Shelley were brutally murdered and the story we see on screen is the story Sarah tells herself to cope with her grief. We have her narration, and other aspects of the film seem to make sense if this is a child's perspective. For example, Albrecht is surprisingly accepting of the idea Eric has come back from the dead. And Eric's reanimated corpse (if that's what he is) looks pretty fresh after a year. At the end of the movie, Eric's grave appears undisturbed. All of these things make sense if it is simply a story in Sarah's head.
Anyway, I'd love to know what people think of my fan theory.

The horse is actually the one thing they seem to have taken from the comic, but in a totally half-assed way that completely misunderstands the part in the comic.
In the comic there is something that seems like a dream sequence - Eric is in a train, looking at a white horse prancing around in a field. The Crow tells Eric not to look, but Eric keeps watching the horse being all carefree and happy - until it gets entangled in razor wire and dies. You get a close-up of the horse's face, and it has Shelley's eyes. The Crow tells Eric "You shouldn't have looked" and the scene ends.
The horse represents Shelley, who was carefree and innocent, and who died horribly, while Eric was forced to watch. Now that is just my interpretation of it, and it is somewhat ambiguous if it is a memory of something that Eric actually saw happen, or if it is some hallucination or vision, but this is how I saw the whole sequence.
What they made out of it in the movie just shows once more that they had no understanding of the actual story

He is a guide for all of the souls in the land of the living that find themselves in Limbo. as in the novels. he looks really scary and creepy asf. it should have been skull cowboy. but again, instead of doing their way, they could have do it with the source material. but nope.. also facts, he was cut from the og crow movie also, i dont remember the reason for that.

I'd rather they made a movie about "The Darkness". Especially since recent adaptions of works with Garth Ennis' involvement proofed a success, for instance Preacher or The Boys.
And Jackie Estacado's story isn't that different from Erik Draven's, but it would absolutely need modern CGI unlike The Crow and fits more for a John Wick like killing spree they love to copy so much lately

    • @tylertheguy3160

I was gonna say that, there's a lot of similarities between those two stories.
What's really crazy is how different The Darkness games (especially the first one) are from the comics. The story in the games is equal parts tragic, beautiful, and horrific. There's a real sense of maturity to most of it. The comics though, while fun in their own right, are juvenile as fuck and scream 90's era comic writing.

100 mins long...and 90 of those are badly acted, badly written & blandly shot garbage. There is one 10 minute sequence in the opera house which is actually not bad at all. But it's too little too late! The leads have zero chemistry! Bill is a good actor, but surprisingly miscast here while FKA should stick to music because she's a terrible actress! The soundtrack doesn't suck, but the songs feel so randomly thrown in with little thought given to why they're there other than "it might make wake up us Goths"...AWFUL FILM OVERALL!

I actually don't think this was telling a simple story-there's a lot of elements it was throwing in there from drug addiction to supernatural stuff to organized crime. Much of this was to the film's detriment as it didn't really flesh out any of these elements. imo, the 1994 version took a more simple approach to its storytelling, but added more depth to the characters.

One night, he attempt an unsuccessful suicide. He end in a hospital which his "lovely shelly" working as a nurse. They meet. Eric start to feeling something. He try to change for Shelly. He is healing. Getting rid of his addiction and suicidal thoughts. Start to writing music again. But his dark past won't leave them alone. And one day "the bad guys" from his past (I don't know who they can be but we can figure it out), attack and kill both of them. The "lovely Shelly" died cuz of him 😔 he is angry but at the same time, feeling guilty for this. And return for revenge. etc etc..... Well, what is your scripts let's disscuss. This 🎦 was very important 2 me. Because the star of the 🎦 lived out one of my dearest dreams: he showed his bare rear end 4 the world. Someday I hope 2 also show my bare rear end 2 the world in a 🎦. Those who doubt me u will not deny the power of my rear end!
