    First of all, like the review, though I've been following you for years and not really for the format as much as the honest, straightfoward approach.
    On the Duster, coming from a romanian guy working in an auto repair center.
    The 1.5 dci isn't powerful by modern standards but it is very reliable. Will do 200.000km's while abused just with regular maintenance. We have one frequently coming (prev. generation) that has reached 400.000kms already(in less than 4 years). No engine issues to speak of. Biggest job was a new clutch and DMF. It has had new shocks, new suspension arms and so on, but that's mainly from our bad roads.
    New one feels a step forward in interior quality and feel and I'm sure the reliability won't be worse.
    I agree a middle range model will the best choice as the top of the range models become very expensive, if you also add financing.

      @@BobFlavinVideo Hah, well I can only agree with both of you ;-)...I am the kind of guy who prefers reliability and simplicity over hyper gadgetry sold in today's cars...more you add of such "improvements", more chances there are something goes wrong....the same applies to whatever one can think of (modern cameras, house hold appliances, sport gear..and so on). Well balanced and decent review, I especially liked the hassle with the boot's hard shelve :-))....perfectly all right with me (acquainted with the "garage solution" from a 1996 Megane) and adds to the trustworthiness of the reviewer.....!

Im Romanian, currently with a 2009 C180 estate with many small issues that keep adding up and Im done with it. Ill get Duster in few years. I just hope NCAP test will improve in future. Mark my words. Buy them now. In 5 to 10 years this will become what Skoda became for VW now. A reliable and almost same price as the Mother Company!

    I bought one of these in February 2016. The car has been faultless and cheap to run. Only fault so far, 1 headlight bulb. What a bonus to be able to buy one at a local motor parts store for €4.00 and replace it myself in less than 5 minutes; just like the old days😆
    No squeaks or rattles, despite the best efforts of the local roads, and comfy to drive.
    This car is far better than it has any right to be and more reliable than my previous cars from VW, Audi, Mercedes, Volvo and Renault or Citroen - most of them new.
    This Duster has been a very pleasant surprise; an extremely honest car.
    I’m guessing they are Renault’s Skoda; simple, tough, reliable and - for now - cheap.

  • @weedmastersr
    @weedmastersr 5 років тому +19

    Bob, the issue with the Kadjar is that it is not as good as a Duster off-road. So, it really depends on your needs. If you're a farmer, a forest ranger or anyone who needs to regularly go off-road, then the Duster is a better choice. The 4WD one is quite good. If you simply want to drive your kids to school, the Kadjar is probably a better choice. Also, worthy to note that in the next model year it gets the 1.3 turbo engine from the new Mercedes A-Class with 150 HP, so it will have a bit more power. Otherwise, fully agree with your review. Just most reviewers don't understand that the Duster is more off-road oriented than most other similar crossovers. For someone looking for a new car that is more reliable, not very complicated like most modern cars, and more affordable, this is a good choice.

    Love all your reviews Bob, whatever the style. I’m a fan of the duster, don’t own one but know plenty of people who do. I wouldn’t be a fan of the kadjar though. Too boring. The duster has this whole “anti-image” image thing going on. It presents itself as a car that’s there to be used and abused, which hints at a certain kind of adventurous freedom.

My Friend bought a 162 diesel 2wd and we told the dealer we didn't want it unless it had a spare wheel jack and wheel carrier so he did it after moaning about it. We didn't want to be stuck in the sticks without a spare. She is happy with it. Good video from yourself.

    Why do car reviwers make such a fuss over what to do with the parcel shelf? If your going some where to bring home a load of stuff just take it out and leave it at home. That is what I have always done and it's never happens so often to cause me upset or hurt. The car is a budget car, if they spent more money making some folding shelf to vanish into the floor it would add money and go against the idea of budget.
    On a different note, it would be good if when you are driving if there could be a camera shot from behind your left shoulder facing forward so we can see the dash and how easy you are finding things as you drive. Just my 2 cents

    I bought a 4x4 1.5 dci prestige Duster in July 2016 and it's a really good car without fault, I was thinking of changing it for the new 1.3 litre 150bhp petrol this summer but find it hard to justify spending 10k when this one still looks and drives like new and has just done 25000 miles. I change the oil in it every 6000 miles and air filter at 12000 to max the economy and get between 53 and 55 mpg, I cant see the new petrol doing more than about 35 on average. I know the new one looks better and is nicer inside but it is still basically the same car dressed better, also I'm a bit concerned about the durability of the new untested 1.3 turbo as recent issues with the Ford 1.0 engine that won awards and now blows head gaskets, and also heard of issues with the previous 1.2 tce.

    The spare wheel underneath the car IS THE BEST OPTION ever for a spare wheel. Why? Well, wouldnt you have to get ALL the luggage out, in the rain, get them inside, and then take the wheel, or would you prefer to just keep everyone and everything inside while you just simply take the wheel from underneath and change it ??? think about it and about real life situations

    • @GlossaME
      @GlossaME 5 років тому +2

      I'll give you another scenario (from experience of corse). Raining outside, you go underneath the car to pop the wheel free (dirt everywhere) and then...then you find out that the bolt is rusted solid. After 15-20 minutes of strugle, you finally manage to get the thing out. You change the wheel, take the flat back to the designated place (dirt everywhere again) and then you realise you can't screw back the damn metal latch because you went too low with it, and it got stuck. Then you just throw the wheel in the boot, concluding you have to pay a vizit to a mechanic, to fix the damn thing.

    • @sterpumihai
      @sterpumihai 5 років тому

      Yes, there is a MINOR advantage you don't have to clear your luggage. However, given the fact a flat happens rarely this advantage doesn't quite make sense.
      Had lots of flats in my 244.000 Km but never, not only once, has rained.
      Also, the spare wheel can be easily stolen if it's outside the car.

    • @mrdemocracy7106

    Just bought my 211 duster, prestige spec, blue dci 115.
    Bob loved the review but just a few things for newer buyers, it now comes with Apple car play and android auto, you can cheaply buy a right angle usb cable which keeps it out of the way of the infotainment screen, using google maps or wase now, I have actually turned off the Dacia nav system.
    This suv is aimed at people who can’t afford to pay 25k plus for a new car in Ireland and there are a lot of families that can’t afford that, so I applaud Dacia for giving us this option, the bonnet has gas struts for feck sake, 30k cars don’t even have that!.
    I laughed at your confusion about the 12v position at the back, it’s actually a great spot to plug in a usb charger and if you get a long cable can route it around the back seats a route through the gaps for the passengers to use, no bother.
    Few things I think you missed;
    (Prestige spec)
    Hill start assist
    Start/Stop
    Blind spot monitoring
    Side cameras
    As I said loved the review but it just came across a little forced for the sake of it, I get it’s not a petrol heads car but there are families in Ireland who would live the value of this. 👍

    6:30 - did I hear correctly "Neither are available in 4x4 version"? I bought 4x4 version and they gave me the option to get spare wheel (and it should be under the carpet in the boot as it can't be under the car because of 4x4)

    • @BobFlavinVideo
      @BobFlavinVideo  5 років тому +1

      As far as I’m aware there’s no spare in the 4x4 model. There’s no spare under the carpet as that’s just metal floor in either model. The spare for 2wd is under the car at the back but none on 4wd. Check with the dealer to be sure.

    • @NuSpirit_
      @NuSpirit_ 5 років тому +1

      @@BobFlavinVideo as far as I know (and my dealership claimed this but I will definitely do double check on this just to be sure) in 4x4 it should be thanks to shallower boot under the carpet (though as it seems it isn't just carpet anymore at least on images). If it truly doesn't have space for spare wheel in the boot then it really is... well... annoying if something happens :/ But thanks for the info and pointing out possible annoyance :)

    Got the 1.6 comfort on Monday..... Seen a few reviews about it, quite a few negatives, but I tell you, I disagree, it's a fab car, and yes the plastic dash is just that, but it's a BUDGET car. Got everything I need in it, and it's so comfy & quiet, unlike reviews saying it's still noisy, I disagree.
    The idiot reviewers that put the Duster down are used to & prefer testing mercs, bmw, audi..... And therefore compare them against the dacia....... Duh......
    If u are thinking about buying a Dacia Duster, don't think, just do.
    BTW,..... I'm driving around in eco mode everywhere. 😍 It.

    this car is PERFECT for someone that already has a car, wins about 5000-6000 euro per month and needs a car to go camping or fishing or for his wife to go shopping to the local supermaket, and you don't want to use your 30-40.000 euro car .So what you do than?well, put aside 1000 euro per month for 1 year and next year you buy this .This is one of best cars in europe for times when u dont want to use your expensive cars in a little bit dirty roads out camping like i said,or go fishing or hunting . Is built with the concept to bring you to A to B when A to B is all that matters and you don't have time to enjoy your driving or whatever.It's a car for the working people not for most rich people.Its made to be used ,not to be admired. If this would be 20% cheaper , it would probably be the best utility car in the world.People use it to carry tools and other work equipment from home to job or field working ,like electricty companies and stuff.If i would be a rich boss at a company i would by this for my employees to use to get from home to work so they wont use their own car.Good stuff.

Here's a hint, it's a blueDCI which means depending on your driving style it needs it for the emissions treatment in the exhaust as I was the diesel you were driving! They didn't put the bottle of adblue in there for the craic!
