Since the anime didn't mention it here it is. The manga specified that Thorgil became a wanderer and was never heard from again, and Olmar spent roughly half the Estate and wealth to compensate the families of the dead farmers that fought.
the throgil part did not even need any words, we've seen that snake did the exact same thing, maybe even thorgil will have a redemption like snake, but thats just one interpretation
Hei, thorfinn acknowledges that canutes ideals are good for most people and a good idea overall, and in a way Canute acknowledges thorfinn idea as a way to save those who he cannot help in the world he wishes to create
Overall the anime is just a great introduction to pacifism. Anyone with half a brain could conjure up a hundred scenarios where being a pacifist won't work out, and as demonstrated at the nation-state level it clearly is a non-starter, and haters will be quick to point out this fact but that's not the point. The point is to realize that violence, slavery, oppression, and war is a terrible thing and that one should ALWAYS TRY to come to a peaceful resolution - and failing that do everything in one's power to avoid having to inflict violence upon another. Violence should be the last option.
The "carve it" sequence was played at the beginning of the season and the phrases were corresponded with visuals of extreme violence, and now we see those same phrases looked at in a completely different light. Definitely follows the path of Thorfinn's development this season as well as the overall running theme of the show.
I remember reading that bit of the manga a couple of times to really understand what it meant. Canute says: I want to make a paradise on earth, and I will use violence to get it because, as I see it, it's the best/only, but most likely - easiest way to get it. Might makes right after all. Thorfinn says: Look, I'm not a political genius so I can't really say if what you're doing is right or wrong, but I'm not gonna stay here and fight you or support you either. I do however support the idea of making the world better, which is what you SAY you want to do. I also recognize that your plan DOES make the world better for most of your citizens, so there is some merit to it. So here's my plan: I'll go far away from here where you have no influence (a world with no cars, plains and trains is really big so it's not that far fetched), and start a country where there's peace. I'll also accept anyone else who won't want to stay in your country. But here's the thing! If you keep using excessive violence, you'll eventually empty out your country, and I'll have to take care of EVERYONE (because everyone will flee from the violence, war and slavery)! So, me being your ally, don't make me responsible for everybody! You're smarter than me, more powerful than me and more experienced than me - so step up! Canute then realizes that for the first time EVER he has a true ally. All the vikings on his side? They're just with him so they could kill and fight. The politicians? Just want to gain power. For the first time EVER he fully opened up to someone and found a true ally and friend, so he's seriously considering toning down the raiding and changing his ways.
1- breaking bad 2- band of brothers 3- vinland saga Everything on vinland is SSS tier, music, picture, direction (this shit was some nolan spielberg mix), animation, character development, historic accuracy. Finishing the season with the "carve it" thing, but with the farm instead of the war. Everything is so good as the best series over there. Also top 5 anime of all time for me up there with code geass, gurren lagan, mushishi and rainbow.
Code geass is good but its not even top 3 anime. You should put AOT which is one of the highest rated TV shows of all time and most highest rated eps. Or monster etc.

Yeah, I think it works because of how he knows Thorfinn, he was a violent killing machine just like the other vikings and now he saw that someone like that can actually change into a peaceful man, Thorfinn is a living proof that Canute's goal is possible, he looks so stressed before but now look at him after meeting Thorfinn, he looks so soft and lightened up. Thorfinn is a man that he wants vikings to become
s2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> s1 even though s1 was 10/10. I also love anime farmland arc over the manga. The voice acting and music is incredibly immersive, MVP of the season is Arnheid's VA Mayumi Sako, also Isabelle Mueller in Great Pretender. I cant wait for the last ep. Carve it. That poem at the end of the episode was also what started off s2 ep1.
Such a beautiful way to close out the chapter on the farm. The anime took already incredible content and somehow made it better. Only one more episode left and then the wait begins for season three.
You should remember that thorfinn was basically canutes first friend, at least canute probly thought of him as one as thorfinn didn't care about his title of prince and treated him like everyone else. Nobody before thorfinn spoke to him that way.
His kid wasnt too bad either then the Germans showed up and the royal family turned into a bunch of inbreed shitheads. Alfred and Richard werent too bad though. Think Alfred was Canutes great grandkid.
It seemed to me Thorfinn respects Canutes views and definitely doesnt view them as wrong, he just personally doesnt agree, so he has no reason to directly appose him. And same goes for canute. Another thing i thought when i originally read the manga is that canute leaving so quickly really was kinda disappointing and unrealistic, however after sitting on it and really thinking about it, it kinda makes sense. Thorfinn is someone Canute trusted and respected and seeing him of all people change so much and become who he is, Canute was more susceptible to hearing him out and trying to understand. And especially considering the rather unorthodox perspective and means at peace from thorfinn in a time where his mentality was so uncommon made it seem a bit more likely for me to believe it. And over time i really really began to love that scene. Probably in my top 10 peakland moments.
I have no idea who did the score for this episode but it kept reminding me of that One Piece score when Shanks gives Luffy his straw hat and they make a promise to meet again when Luffy becomes a great pirate. Fun fact: In the manga, Snake was still so lazy he didn't want to plow the fields so he went to take Olmar's place cause he thought his job would be much easier but the Old Master didn't let him. And then Snake started wondering how long will the old master live.
Dude, it's 1015 AD... there be slaves. Don't overthink it. Also that was just the 30 kings guard... not the jomsvikings. Also standing armies were small back then and, relied heavily on calling up as needed. As for Canute, gts.
There's a passage in the bible (Lucas 6:29-30) where Jesus says " If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also." It's hard to understand but Thorfin got it right
Thorfinn beat up face ain't goofy that show how a true warrior look like and anime done it to unrealistic how a man eats 100 punch from a viking warrior and not get to hospital the manga did thorfinn so fine
Spoilers I Guess I'm noticing they are making scenes that are meant to be comical in the manga, more serious, like when Thorfinn tells Canute "A foolish effort your Highness", we don't get that in the anime, I don't know how I feel about that, because a big part of Gudrid and Karli is that they are cute and funny, maybe they just decided to make this season more serious, I don't know.
hear me out on Uncle Ketil: I think you guys are too hard on Ketil. I always liked Ketil. Remember he was a good farmer that did not like violence. He treated all his slaves good and gave them an option to work for freedom. Gardar had a bad boss. His whole persona changed because hi boss treated him like that where Ketil treated his slaves with respect. Now he also purchased his slaves and slavery was fine back then. He didnt steal people in wars and used them as slaves. Now his father is one step above him because his father believed in not living so richly and doing the work yourself. Still Ketil was a good person who tried to live by a set of rules. Canute literally set him up after he did everything he could to please the King so one could understand his frustration. Then suddenly they were at war which completely broke Ketil mentally and the moment they came home he learned about Arnheid's betrayal which 100% was betrayal. Gardar was a lost case.. He killed 5 people and he was lost. Arnheid should've stayed away from him. That was what got her in this situation. Now Ketil punishing Arnheid was uncalled for and he went way over the line however you have to realize at that piont he was completely mentally broken. In the End I believe Arnheid is happier dead. With both her children and husband. Her situation is what is driving Thorfin as well. The fact that she didn't even want to live. Now you would argue. Ketil's actions killed an innocent women.. So did Thorfin's actions.. A person could be forgiven for any sin including murder..
How could you deem Gardar a lost cause and not Ketil though 😂 you seem to acknowledge everything that led up to Ketil going mad and using it to justify his actions, but you do not acknowledge Gardar’s years of being a slave and being treated like he’s not a human. They were written to juxtapose each other, they were both going mad but by different sources. Ketil became as much of a lost cause as Gardar by the end when he also decided to murder.
Everyone cant fully understand the emotional value it conveys...And also each one has different opinion...I respect urs...But this is beyond peak to us...There is a greater peak to come yet...
