What a beautiful young lady. And a fine performance of a very technically challenging Beethoven composition. I'm sure she has a fine future ahead of her.
Miss Nagatomi, this is by far and away the best interpretation I've heard of what I consider to be Beethoven's most beautiful sonata movement. You have elegant phrasing and precise fingering, along with all the musicality required to interpret Beethoven's musical intentions. I hope you're planning to tour outside Japan!
Simply Stunning. Her feel and presentation are superb. Her parents must be incredibly proud of her. I believe she is only nineteen here. What a magnificent player she is,...... BRAVO!! BRAVO!!!!
Perhaps one of the best performances I've heard of this piece. Often times this song is played too quickly or too technically, turning out harsh or just unpleasant, but your playing was just so beautiful. Thanks for this music, and thanks for bringing back some old memories with this magnificent playing
Her posture hasn't the slightest importance... She plays with a rare and sublime emotion :o Indeed, this must be the best performance of the pathetique on UA-cam :)
When I see this beauty play piano, I really don`t care how good she is. She can play Beethoven and that is great enough. I just enjoy looking at her and think: if you are great pianist like Martha in the future, the world is really unfair ...
"Path" is the Greek root for feeling/suffering (like in the words sympathy, antipathy, apathetic, telepathy, etc.). And of course, Mozart was trying to convey suffering and emotion in this piece. :)
Simply... great i'm currently working on that piece too and this vid sure helped me get the feel of the piece so thanks a lot. Magnificent player, magnificent piece (hell, beethov ftw) so well... Magnificent vid.
great interpretation. i particularly liked the speed of the grave section. everyone else seems to want to take the 'grave' section and turn it into an 'amusement park' *liked*

I prefer your development and recapitulation and even is my farvorite after hearing the Perahia in the Immortal Beloved. But it is so a pity he never record the mov.1 It is my favorite all the time. His secondo is as powerful as yours I love it!
I've played this song too. Looks like we have similar tastes.. maybe i'll post a video of me playing this song as soon as I rememorize it. I love your interpetation.
She didn't repeat the "Grave" (which some musicologists and pianists would see as the "introduction") - I believe it is not an "introduction", but to be repeated where she skipped it. One of my favourite interpretations/performances of Opus 13 nr 1 is by Freddie Kempf. But music is subjective and opinions over interpretation and even syntax will differ - that is why the language of music is Universal - for everyone to enjoy - to have and eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I'm playing this, then I hit the second page, or 2:15 in this video, and it is immediately apparent that I have drunk way too much coffee this morning.
i dunno about others, but personally i dont intentionally memorise my music, it just occurs naturally after much practise... i'm currently learning la campanella and i've already memorised half of it but i cant even play the whole thing up to speed yet.
iBangladeshi Unfortunately, you are wrong cause I have heard a lot of pianists in my life and I play the piano too is not my fault that I love interpretation of this pianist;) take care
And of course Mozart is not Beethoven, as some might say it, and the greek word is Pathos, not path (as the same ones might think) :) However, even in english the archaic meaning of the word was related to emotions, emphasis, affectation.
depends on the person, i memorize things pretty easily but other people can have an extremely tough time even though they can play it well with sheet music
the grave section was nicely done and i could feel the passion in the music. can someone teach how to practice (like what to do eg more scales?) from 5:26
What a beautiful young lady.
And a fine performance of a very technically challenging Beethoven composition.
I'm sure she has a fine future ahead of her.

i think all her interpretations are very pleasant to listen to. I never find anything wrong with any of her performances. she's a great pianist
Simply Stunning. Her feel and presentation are superb. Her parents must be incredibly proud of her. I believe she is only nineteen here. What a magnificent player she is,...... BRAVO!! BRAVO!!!!
omg I listened to this before a local piano sonata competition and I won with this piece !! Thank you Aya !

Agreed. Some pianist puts too much personal touch into it, makes it a not a Beethoven but the pianist. Excellent interpretation, like it.
this is flawless.. everything about it is perfect
Absolutely beautiful playing of my favorite sonata! Bravo!
Simply beautiful. I always watch your videos whenever I need inspiration for playing piano. (:
YOU are the best pianist I have ever heard!!!
Beautiful playing.. I could only dream of playing this song. You can tell she's really concentrating when she only focuses on her right hand..
Her posture hasn't the slightest importance... She plays with a rare and sublime emotion :o Indeed, this must be the best performance of the pathetique on UA-cam :)
it really is a wonderful colorful and well executed performance....loved it....great energy and sensitivity.
Realmente hermoso.
Watching you gives me inspiration! I can see your interpretation through this piece well. Very nice.
I am.. AMAZED!!!!!!... Aya, you made me shake to the bones, thank you for such a beautiful gift
Great... My father played this piece when younger ... today is a bit limited ... but still presents us with his piano...
You are wonderful! TKS!!
When I see this beauty play piano, I really don`t care how good she is. She can play Beethoven and that is great enough. I just enjoy looking at her and think: if you are great pianist like Martha in the future, the world is really unfair ...
Aya is very well to perform slowly and delicately. And also manipulate details
this is probably the best thing i've heard in a while
Bravo...

I tried to listen to others pianists' performance, but I still like yours best.
Such fire! She makes that piano sing.
Holy cow. Bravo....best interpretation ever....!!!!!

She is wonderful and I love her
Great playing! Would love to see you play live..
everything perfect @@ !
its right up there for sure - great definition in her playing; i guess the amount of views of this tells the story
Beautiful! Gosh you make it look so effortless. My arms and hands burn when I play this!
C'est vraiment magnifique! Bravo!
BEAUTIFUL... i like her expressions in her face it shows practice... :D :D :D :D :D D :D love it so much good job Aya

10 stars!!! What planet was Beethoven from ?
I was like. Damn i know this piece but i can't remember how.
Agreed!
you got the skill, but cannot yet express it with good tempo
espeically, the early part of it
Anyone who plays like that should be able to sit however they want.
@3:18 my favourite part
Nice.
I belive she has a word with Beethoven...
