Owned my 2001 for 20 years. Hands down best car I ever owned and I’ve owned a ton of cars. Luckily I live in SoCal so she’s in perfect condition no rust I did do a repaint but it was just for a flex. I’m perfect sure I will keep it forever. I’m just not sure why the car Community hates on them so much they are amazing?
Yeah I don't get it either. I only had two cars in my life so far both is300 almost 15 years. Im always discovering new cool things about them. I'm gonna get another one and turbo charge it. Though if you do the right stuff on it it doesn't feel slow but still these cars have so much potential. Only other vehicle I really want is a truck but I'm very content with my is300. I still get complements from people who don't even know about them especially lately. I love the interior gives a very race car feel specially the 2001 model. It's the perfect platform for a race/high performance car and it's roomy enough to at least fit four people if you want to take friends with you most cars like the supra is only two doors

@@Soltor1974 ITBs? My bad I don't know what the abbreviation of that means. I'm probably just gonna get a turnkey package engine. So I know it runs right all the guess work is done and it's warranty

Little known fact: I gen IS300's Limited Slip Diff shares the same internals (the casing is a bit different) wit the GT86/BRZ.
I've had an IS200 SportCross, now an IS300 SC. Great little car with a big engine (for European standards), handles a lot better compared to an e46 or e90, although with the 1G-FE the steering is a bit more responsive. Plus compared to fragile German premium cars, this is made like a tank, especially the engine. The 5 speed AT could use a bit shorter gear ratio and a 6th gear. When I was taking it back from a mechanic, he told me this: "they don't make engines like the 2JZ anymore".

Great review! I have the same buzz on my Cube shifter, and I solved it by putting a BUNCH of noise cancelling material like you would put in walls in the shift boot. I went to a couple hardware stores and asked around for the stuff without fiberglass particles in it, and they usually have a couple damaged bags they can't sell lying around and will give you a sheet (you usually buy it in enormous quantities). It reduced the noise by about 90%, you should REALLY try it out.

Just a suggestion I just did this recently recommended from the dealership try filling up your tires a bit. At least to edge of where it say you can't exceed past that which I think is 40 PSI. I did that and it's a night and day difference the car is SO much more responsive now. People might say "oh that's too much air" idgaf the car is a blast now a bit rougher driving but way more responsive. Little hack but it works. I only have a cat back exhaust too
Best car I've ever owned. Can confirm eBay header makes it very raspy over 3k. I also find it very easy to rev match. Still using factory dual mass flywheel and just a clutch damper delete.
Try taking the rear headrests out. Gives you better visibility out the rear. (I'll be re-doing the rear package tray to get even more room. Plus makes it easier to properly clean the rear glass)
Another thing, I put in a $35 30" long louvered glass pack (after the Megan header), under the floor to a regular Megan tail-muffler.
Takes away that raspy Honda sound 😕 and mellows it out.

Two questions should be ask if your gonna buy these bad boys are you in to mod the car or you want ROI?
If you gonna mod get a decent priced automatic, go AR5/R154/CD009/W58 you choose, whether if its 1JZ/2JZ GTE swap, 3UZ, LSx.
If you want ROI, meaning you lose little to zero money factory manual by all means just remember you can’t go all out boosting with the W55 since its much weaker tranny than even the W58 off the A70/80 Supra N/A. Other than that you got a classic decently refined sport sedan.
Does the upgrade air intake come apart I noticed you mention that the elbow is wider then the bottom end of the intake hose? Can you go more into detail of what was done would love to run that setup on my IS 👌🏽🙏🏽

Need to correct u with the beams engine, we never got that in europe, but therefore the weak 2l inline 6, 1g-fe, they kept the beams for themselfs in Japan..

Cool mods for a poor man budget. I absolutely hate those headlights though, I think instead of moving forward your moving riceward with those 😂 But hey if you like em that's all that matters. I just love the stock lights with the HIDs and if you want to upgrade just do a retrofit. Keep up the cool channel, but be careful when you swap your motor as the W55 will blow up. Haha it's a guarantee once you turbo or swap anything with 260+hp

Do you ever plan on doing camshafts and exhaust cam pulley? If so or not so what are your thoughts on it?
cams are cool but the amount of money it costs and the power gain never seemed worth it to me, thats why im V8 swapping it.
@@PoorManMods yeah that’s true for about 800$ and about 20hp gain isn’t really worth it. Spend a little more and get a solid v8 for 300+ hp makes sense

i have a sportcross 200 with a manual, 155hp, 6 speed. Compared to my old bmw e36 wagon, 320 5 speed manual, the lexus feels way faster. The hp should be the same. Never even been in a is300 tho..
Mine has 260k, daily driver with figs bushings and hotchkis sway bars. You can't buy a car that handles this well. Your car is my car's role model

I have the Altezza verson 1JZ engine, I really want to swap out the automatic transmission, but those boxes are so hard to get, (at least in this side of the world) the Americas.
Look into an AR5 swap using an r154 bellhousing. I just did one on mine. It’s a little bit of work to make it work but it’s a great transmission and they’re easy to find here in the states. I’m using an R154 style clutch with a custom ACT plate. The best part is when I go turbo the trans is plenty strong and has been proven to hold 750 reliably.
Need a standalone ecu to tune the car to take advantage of those mods
It made 191whp which is pretty good for these cars
Honestly the 5 Speed on these is overhyped if your talking about modding it since the factory W55 is even weaker than the W58 off the MKIV NA Supra. Better off buying an good cheap automatic chassis and then swap it for R154/AR5 1JZ swap a 1JZ or 3UZ really wake up this car.
Man the prices of w58s and especially R154s make me sick now! They inflated almost as much as bitcoin LOL
That car is very tough I would say drive it like a four-cylinder just drive it around in high RPMs all the time it won't hurt the motor Chevy Cavalier Drive the crap out of it don't worry pet stuff that they won't break down
you are wrong about the beams engine being an option in Europe. We got the is200 with 1g-fe 2litre 6cyl making 155hp and the is300 but only with auto box.

My cube speed shifter made the same buzz sound on my 2002 IS. I ended up taking it apart and adding a couple more shims that came with the kit. It reduced the buzzing noticeably. Thanks for the videos. I really enjoy my IS even though it's not fast... yet.

Remember your car has a fly by wire throttle body that thing won't let you go fast or you need to turn on the sport try to be a better driver and beat the fiesta why did you let him beat you turn off the traction control turn on the sport more like on my the button doesn't stick it only works by holding it with your finger torque transmission do a burnout you can't get ahead of that car initially with no converter and a header why don't you ask your buddy to go 1:30 your car goes way over 100 what's the problem f****** cruises great breakdown it's got great suspension maybe if you're worried about being slow you should lose about 50 lb I apologize but I say the same thing when people are asking how can they make their bicycle go faster I want to take weight off the bicycle I say go on a diet I really appreciate my Lexus what I like about my Lexus control it has verses of fiesta 95 mph going right to left in traffic I don't think a Ford Fiesta it's capable of that they didn't make a Fast and Furious movie with a Ford Fiesta Cruiser car nice to your car a car safe as long as you're not going 95 miles an hour in traffic kids don't do this at home please don't think speed is ever a substitute for safety follow the rules of the road respect other drivers I've learned to drive slow I get tired of paying speeding tickets they only got more expensive police are always right when you're caught speeding I had to grow up try another one Lexus GS300 very stable and comfortable any SC300 and jump up to the Lexus LS 4:50 I think are Mustang GTs it has more pickup but it doesn't like to go over 100 Transmissions Limited 140 something in the owner's manual use Z rated for going over 100 mph good car it's a great car if you want to learn how to work on cars the Toyota parts aren't very expensive easy to obtain car is pretty easy to work on it standard set of tools you don't even need special tools to replace the timing belt no 10-step process it's very easy to work on take your time I believe you can take the brakes out of a GS Lexus 300 and put them on an is they have four Pistons instead of two Lexus GS300 front calipers 4 Pistons example the ball joints don't need special tools Loctite in a wrench is required guess what Lexus GS how to say ball joints I got my car from a chronic smoker it was so thick with the smell of smoke get a face full every time you open the door after a heavy cleaning 2 months it's still heavy with smoke smell when I bought the car I thought the interior what's black after I cleaned it with degreaser I found out all the seats were purple the headliner with yellow brown then it turned 10 I thought the rear window had a tent but when I sprayed it with Windex it dissolved leading need to believe that that was cigarette smoke stuck to the window I feel like I rescue this poor car from the previous owner just neglected that crap out of it you need to get some Lexus IS or GS even if they're slow they are very fun to drive Toyota quality change the oils my two cars got 280,000 miles on them 255 the GS has 287 air conditioning works maintenance is easy brake pads and rotors are a little expensive what can you say the alignment is always been pretty good didn't wear out tires if they had the Lexus back then they would have won the war I don't know any better I'm kidding I do think Japanese products are well-made I call it Lex my wife calls it Luther

Prices are showing what you are talking about in this video. I had an 01 automatic w/out LSD and it was a fun car. I have an 02 stock manual now that's in a little rough shape, but overall is mechanically sound. New water pump, head cover gasket, alternator, oil control valve, 02 sensor fixes and it starts every.single.time. Love getting it up in the higher revs and rev matching.
Stoked you are doing a 1UZ swap! I'm leaning that direction because I just want a fun, reliable car, it doesn't need to make 750WHP or some crazy shit.
Are you going to build the 1UZ out before it goes in? Or just stock? Trying to sort this out myself.
ill be doing an OEM rebuild of the 1uz, but wont be modifying it anything. Itll basically be a stock 1uz with a high flow intake, headers and a tune

So far I have Tein Z's on my car and it came with an open air filter which needs a box, but with an engine swap on my mind I don't wanna get too far into it.

@@mygueljkdhks8085 Those are hard to find. My auto didn't have LSD, but my manual did and it slides and keeps me steady really well

Why 1uz and not just build a NA-T 2jzGTE?
Because the 1uz is different, and just by swapping in a stock engine the car gains approx 100HP and loses 100lb off the front of the car making it even more balanced

A lot of members on my.is claim BC cams are the best mod you can do for the 2jz.
i own one the thing i dislike is the front suspension design as its not a twin wish bone twin arm type but thats thats .nor the styling its OK but ah front ends to short etc bla bla but its a great car and with a few tweak like the one in this video has this car will be better that new ones to me.i may just part it or or fix it up a get the sc300 instead is300 ant me the modern od ball dash is hideous to me
