    Did Toyota deliberately design this engine to make replacing something so simple extremely difficult or what? I've replaced a few water pumps before but have never seen anything like this in all my 55years of life. Thank you for making this video because without it I don't think anyone would be able to diy.

    water pump failed with 10,000 miles left due to o-ring gasket not being replaced correctly,or removing old ring completely from inside o-ring crevice,instead of placing new o-ring on top of old one. Thanks Finn.

  • @gchsbus
    @gchsbus Рік тому +1

    WOW What a job and a pain in the a$$. I think I will look into a water pump delete next time I have my timing belt done on this car. Would be easier to install an electric water pump so that I can replace that easily in the event it fails. Who the hell wants to go through all of this? I bet the repair would be expensive!

    on a 1994 you need to take the engine mount arm that is hold by 3 bolts to the engine, as water pump slydes out/in that direction. this is working on the car...at first i did not take arm off, i got it out but was not able go put it back in. once i remove the engine arm it took me a few seconds to slyde it back in. remember do not bolt the pulley as you need it to move it atound to bolt the waterpump. then lift the engine until you can bolt the pulley to the pump one bolt a time ( jus grab the pulley with a pressure pliers use a piece of rag or carton to not scrash the pulley.) and bolt it one at the time.

    Probably want to loosen the wp pulley bolts before taking off the belts if you don't have access to impacts, you can use an end wrench and large screw driver but it's slower

    is it normal for coolant to come out of my overflow hose on the coolant reservoir on my corolla the car don't over heat and it only do it sometimes. do you think I'm putting too much coolant.

    • @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor
      @PeterFinnTheCarDoctor  7 років тому

      Hi, it is normal.

    • @kn520
      @kn520 3 роки тому

      1) if you overfill coolant, it will eject excess coolant through the overflow
      2) If you have air in the system, possibly you need to bleed the system or you have a failing radiator cap which is not holding the correct pressure and allowing coolant to flow to the reservoir prematurely.

    hi peter..can use inpact wrench on this job?

  • @russb8151
    @russb8151 4 роки тому +1

    yes...it's so easy to get at water pump WITH ENTIRE ENGINE OUT OF THE CAR!....lol do it with the engine still in the car.Go ahead & try to remove the pulley...YEAH RIGHT! I just did it with engine in the car with a friend.Had to leave water pump pulley on,take 12mm & 10mm bolts out of water pump casting,using engine hoist to raise/lower engine to get at bolts with a wrench.then pry on engine at where engine mount bolts onto engine towards drivers side as my friend wiggled out the water pump out of the 1 inch or 2 of space to do so....

    My '97 Corolla appears to have a water pump leak. I am planning on getting it replaced. The current timing belt has about 45,000 miles on it. Is it worth replacing the timing belt at the same time or should I just replace the water pump?

    to fasten the harmonic balancer bolt all you need is to turn the pulley bolt wile the spark plugs are in. that forse is enough, do is a couple of times.....the pulley and bolt turn in same closed tighten direction so bolt will never come loose....this is for people with no tools ok, if u have tools use them. and fallow the doctor orders. and to loosen it, look for video on you tube to loosen it with no tools. i done it many times it is safe.

      Peter Finn the Car Doctor I took the thermostat out to check flow. I used a thermal gun to check temperature. Everything is running normal. Temperature from gun shows normal. My gauge says it’s hot. But temperature is 144 degrees Fahrenheit?
