- Jacksonville is the most populous city in Florida, and is the largest city by area in the contiguous United States as of 2020. It is the seat of Duval County, with which the city government consolidated in 1968. Consolidation gave Jacksonville its great size and placed most of its metropolitan population within the city limits. As of 2019, Jacksonville's population was estimated to be 911,507, making it the 12th most populous city in the U.S., the most populous city in the Southeast, and the most populous city in the South outside of the state of Texas. The Jacksonville metropolitan area has a population of 1,523,615 and is the fourth largest metropolitan area in Florida.

Jacksonville is centered on the banks of the St. Johns River in the First Coast region of northeast Florida, about 25 miles (40 km) south of the Georgia state line and 328 miles (528 km) north of Miami. The Jacksonville Beaches communities are along the adjacent Atlantic coast. The area was originally inhabited by the Timucua people, and in 1564 was the site of the French colony of Fort Caroline, one of the earliest European settlements in what is now the continental United States. Under British rule, a settlement grew at the narrow point in the river where cattle crossed, known as Wacca Pilatka to the Seminole and the Cow Ford to the British. A platted town was established there in 1822, a year after the United States gained Florida from Spain; it was named after Andrew Jackson, the first military governor of the Florida Territory and seventh President of the United States.
Harbor improvements since the late 19th century have made Jacksonville a major military and civilian deep-water port. Its riverine location facilitates Naval Station Mayport, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, the U.S. Marine Corps Blount Island Command, and the Port of Jacksonville, Florida's third largest seaport. Jacksonville's military bases and the nearby Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay form the third largest military presence in the United States. Significant factors in the local economy include services such as banking, insurance, healthcare and logistics. As with much of Florida, tourism is important to the Jacksonville area, particularly tourism related to golf. People from Jacksonville are sometimes called "Jacksonvillians" or "Jaxsons" (also spelled "Jaxons").

Born and raised in Chicago lived my whole life here never thought I’d leave this city but I’m planning to move in Jacksonville in few months. I’m pretty stoked and excited for this little city I can see myself living here for good with a nice small house closer to the beach with my motorcycle and in 2 to 3 years get myself an white Axopar 37 XC cross cabin boat and I’m all set.
That's awesome! 👍 😀
I won’t call Jacksonville a little city because it is the most populated city in Florida and the traffic here is so bad
@@NEFLAtlantic during peak times
I think u better Google the city of jacksonville it's almost 900 square miles that's twice the size of all 5 borough's of NY though it's not much to do downtown I hope u come wit wheels cuz shit is spreaded out
jacksonville is the most populated city in Florida as in 2021 traffic on the interstate is really bad just wanted to let u know
Thats a small downtown. Love the video
Glad you liked it 👍
It only seems that way because north bank downtown is the building Northside of the st john's river south bank are the building on the southside of the river west bank are a couple more building jus west of the the main North bank downtown the you have more buildings in two more spots of the city known as business parks your mainly looking at the north bank downtown but if all the buildings were in one spot it would look larger
@@pissypiancilamblamumba7573 maaaaaaaaaaannnnnn dat shit together still small 😂😂😂😂😂😂🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ mfs in Jacksonville think dat shit sooooooooooo big with one sport team and only 3 freeways 🛣 we ... yes I said we I’m from Jacksonville.... only got 3 lanes going each way on highways cities like Miami Houston Chicago got 8-10 lanes in each way and they still be full of traffic that small ass downtown with 3 buildings dat ain’t no skyline tallest building is 609ft ... @@Been_offical_0417 dude you got to much time on your hands you must be on vacation beside I could careless I'm from atlanta i lived in Jacksonville now I live in St louis but I travel this whole country but 894 sq miles is 894 sq miles regardless how many buildings highway or people lie with in its city limits
Let’s see it! I’m looking to move out of West Palm because it’s getting packed and rent is insane! 🛸✨🏴☠️
I don’t blame you ... 👍
Jacksonville has more people than West palm
@@NEFLAtlantic Awesome!
I love living in jacksonville fl I miss it
What's it like
I liked it too!
@@robertbonds7377it's nice in the winter and very hot from late spring to mid autumn A nice place to live, but only if you have a car.Living there with no car is hard even if you have a bike. Also without a car socially people look at you funny like why don't you have a car. You have to also be careful there because the police will take you to jail over breaking petty laws like drinking beer outside or driving on a suspended license.
I enjoyed this video, but what is going on with the pick up truck at 20:00 that enters from the left of the frame and disappears into another dimension?
It just disappeared :)
Even the dude walking appears out of nowhere..
This is my hometown and I was wondering the same thing, where are the people. There's usually homeless people everywhere whether it's hot or not, and on weekends it's busy because of the landing. Weird..
I think that because of the heat most people stayed at home at this time of the day
Or it's Sunday
9:45 is that dates palm trees?
Jacksonville and Tampa dont seem to be about much, but have sports teams based on Florida population. Miami is a small populated city, but it looks and has the aura of top level cities.
I absolutely agree with you
I live in Jacksonville and feel the same way. Been here 33 years. Time for a change soon
@@blacknight88 Miami-Dade county is a great option 👍
@@4KTravelChannel Yea!!!
Right of the frame I meant to say.
Cool!
@@4KTravelChannel I know but what the hell happened to that truck? I get it that its just an edit for time but still pretty funny and messed with my head for a minute..lol
Why does it always seem so empty though
People are just chilling out at home because of heat
Definitely should visit Miami Beach! 👍
Maybe you don't watch the news but covid 19 is still out there and florida was the hardest hit state
@@pissypiancilamblamumba7573 LMAO actually it was California and New York maybe you need a recap
🤤🤤🤤
👍
The best thing i did was moving out this city, Hallandale Beach and Hollywood Beach, and Miami is better way more things to do and jobs.
Miami is definitely a better decision! 👍
This is why you don't judge a city filmed by an out of towner he stayed primarily on the north bank crossed over to the south bank came rite back to the north bank got rite at the foot of the west bank twice and turned around but getting to the west bank for a out of towner can be confusing even the people that live here barely know how to get to the west bank without crossing the Acosta or ending up on I95 because the west bank is were downtown end and were you don't want to be meet were you ain't got no business being for some people but hay good job come back again
Didn't understand what you were trying to say but ok
@@4KTravelChannel you stayed one side of downtown there is 3 sides North Bank South Bank and West Bank you stayed on the North Bank 98% of the video you crossed over to the South Bank briefly and I mean briefly but turned around and came back to the North Bank but never even touch the West Bank I hope you understand now if not forgive me
Jacksonville county bruh and I’m from there shoulda coulda woulda but we ain’t got shit talking bout use to be ...... and ya facts wrong Miami took off because of rail and it’s not subtropical in Miami it’s tropical 🌴 and it sits on a flood plain like marsh so no woods and it’s the 4th most dense city in America .... Jacksonville small with its 900 sq wooded miles not built up and it only got 3 major highways 95 10 295 real cities have 10 or more major freeways 🛣 with waaayyy more than 3lanes going each way more like 6-10 lanes each way Jacksonville sit on a Ditch with one major sports team and 3 buildings downtown
Home ❤🥹
Awesome!
I hear they have flying roaches in this area
Lol, I heard that too ))
Throughout the southeast. They're actually 'waterbugs', related to roaches and they're HUGE!!! And yes, they can fly...and run fast too.
Welcome to downsouth…..
this is city without humans deserted city most be real sad to be in such a city
I think people are just chilling at home 🏠
U know the pendemic is still going on and the state of florida was the hardest hit buy it and speaking of people our population is around 900k u can google this
It doesn’t look tropical
It's a typical Florida city 👍
I don't know what u consider tropical to look like though florida is considered subtropical
@@pissypiancilamblamumba7573 I meant it doesn’t have that tropical look like southern Florida.
@@ms3173 ok I feel u on that but feel me on this North FL is a lot older than South FL lets say Miami was incorporate as a city 70 yrs after jacksonville established it's self as the greatest city in FL 4 years later 1901 our downtown burned to ground with a few connecting neighborhoods since then the newer region would surpass us greatly in wealth so with that said the only difference between North n South FL we have that older colonial Fl look south have a newer art deco FL look but trust me jacksonville has about 900 sq miles of land 22 miles of beach it's places out here will blow your mind and just south of our city limits is St augustine FL the oldest city in this country. So out side the city it's self the North FL region is almost 300 yrs older than South FL jacksonville used to be the movie capital of the south but some how the 1901 fire crippled this area as people began to flock to the newly built south FL but out side of that they got palm tree we got palm trees they got white sand beaches blue water we do to the only other difference North is 50% black 50% white south FL is black and white and everyone from the caribbean and south america so I guess that what u mean by tropical
Look up “fort Myers beach live cam” they are insane here. Especially the weekends the full up the streets, but it’s an awesome sight
Nobody downtown on the weekends? No downtown nightlife, outdoor restaurants?🙄
People are just chilling at home at this time of the day I think
That's how I like it
