This is a $69 audio interface that pumps 69 DB of gain. This video has no post-processing. No boost in volume. This is as loud as it is. It has a ton of juice to pump any dynamic mic. Goodbye Cloudlifter. Seriously seriously goodbye Cloudlifter. I demonstrate that this interface can pump up an SM7B even with terrible mic technique, practically booming the mic over very far away. I also discuss how to troubleshoot issues I had with it.

I think you can get by with a Fifine AM8 or K688. Those are ok with dealing with some of the sound around you.
I’d be curious to know what you think about the tone of the audio with the Vocaster compared to all of your other interfaces. I have thoughts based on the others I’ve used, but always curious if my ears hear what others do.
So finding the subtleties between headphone amps are harder for me to explain. But I can talk about more objective stuff, how does it drive an HD6xx. So when comparing this right now to the Focusrite Solo 3rd gen, that had to go almost near max whereas the Vocaster is at around 2 to 3 PM on the dial. So it seems to be louder or can drive an HD6xx no problemo.
@@Dracomies ah, sorry I meant the tone of the mic input. I’ve always thought perhaps they rolled a little of the bass off because they figured people would be using it for voice recordings, and something like the Volt had a little more lowend, at least to me. But others have said they don’t notice any a lack of warmth or bass. Sometimes I almost talk myself out of using the Vocaster for professional stuff like it’s somehow less pro due to the “podcast” intent of the interface, but it really is solid. Our experiments with it over the past several days got it back on my desk.
@@tjzuppe Ah! That's harder for me to tell. But I'll have an opinion as more time goes by haha.
3:15 the... what? The what? Tell us, I need to know
I put the parts in the description! :P This is sick right?!!
@@Dracomies ah sorry. I can't read
The Vocaster One is even cheaper in sweden. About 50 bucks. My Vocaster Two (80 Bucks ish) should arrive tomorrow. Gonna give it a try with the AT 875R. Great to have the option of adding a SM7B down the line if the need occur. Seems like a decent unit for the cheap price they go for today compared to their launch prices.
Yes indeed! Just remember to choose Host rather than the Video mode and you should be set to go :P
