Interesting, that's a good point. I'd never actually considered it, but it's definitely possible that Otta never even took the poster and North Korea framed him so he could be used as a pawn of their political posturing. Given the angle and low quality of the footage, it could've easily been doctored. And planting the poster among Otto's belongings would've been child's play. But even if Otto had made a misguided decision to take the poster as a souvenir, the crime didn't fit the punishment of being tortured and killed (I blame NK for his coma and ultimate death). Otto was in a no-win situation. He likely wouldn't have survived his 15-year sentence of hard labor due to the hellish conditions. And unfortunately, a negotiation for his release was also a death sentence. I believe North Korea intentionally did something to put Otta in a coma and vegetative state, all so that he wouldn't be able to expose the lies, abuse, outright torture, and everything else he experienced while in North Korean custody.
@@johanh530what do they gain from forcing their citizens to eat dog while the highest of citizens dine on fine steaks? Who knows, but I really don’t believe that boy stole that poster. This is the same country that supposedly has nothing to do with the assassination of Kim Jong Un’s brother when we all know they set it up.
@@johanh530 - Getting him to "admit" to having done something he didn't do. North Korea's whole deal is propaganda. Keeping the citizens secluded from the rest of the world, only being exposed to government created/approved content, all telling them that their lives are great, Kim Jung-Un is wonderful and loving and the west (U.S.A. in particular) is dangeorus and evil and seek to destroy their "paradise" and kill their "beloved leader". Framing westerners as spies, assassins or just dangerous in some kinda way helps promote that view in the minds of North Koreans.

Its very possible North Korea did something but what exactly do they gain from torturing tourists??
