ENGLISH TRANSLATION In 1966 Sergio Leone, filmed in Spain, the third film of the so-called "Trilogy of the dollar" starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Ely Walace, titled in Spain "The good, the ugly and the bad", considered one of the 100 best films in the history of world cinema, is undoubtedly one of the basic pillars of the subgenre called spaghetti westwern, which in the hands of the Italian director reached the highest levels of the 7th art. The film was shot in natural settings of Almería, Madrid and Burgos. The last 20 minutes of his footage, during which the spectacular and innovative duel to three in the circular paving of the military cemetery of SAD HILL takes place, were filmed in the Arlanza river valley at the confluence of the municipalities of Carazo, Contreras and Santo Domingo de Silos, in the province of Burgos (Spain). In a few days, approximately a thousand replacement soldiers who fulfilled their military obligations in the barracks of Burgos, built the spectacular central paved circle and the 5,000 tombs in radial arrangement with their respective wooden crosses of the SAD HILL military cemetery. The cemetery remembers the great military cemeteries of the Second World War and constitutes a historical extravagance for the time in which the action takes place, during the Civil War of the United States between 1861 and 1865, but it is an unforgettable scene in which we attend to the climax of the film, undoubtedly empowered by the recognizable notes of the master Morricone with his excellent and well-known track "The Ecstasy of Gold". When the filming ended, the stages were abandoned and Nature and Time took their place, until in 2014, a group of young people decided to try what seemed impossible, recover SAD HILL. Two years later, at the end of July 2016, the stones of the central circle, the 5,000 tombs with their respective crosses and a lucky group of attendees to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the film, enjoyed the projection of the film in that magical place. After, on a giant screen, they received the thanks of Ennio Morricone, James Hetfield (Singer of Metalica) and Clint Eastwood himself, congratulating them for their work and admiring their efforts. On You Tube you can see a great documentary in Spanish and subtitled in English, directed by Carlos López Peñacoba, entitled "SAD HILL, CLINT EASTWOOD AND BURGOS AS A WITNESS", I recommend you see if you have 20 minutes and want to know more about this subject and enjoy its magnificent images and interviews. ua-cam.com/video/sdNZXusymuU/v-deo.html At the end of 2018, Guillermo de Oliveira has premiered another excellent documentary: "UNEARTHING SAD HILL" of an hour and a half duration (which can be seen on the NETFLIX platform), where the ins and outs of the recovery process of the cemetery and various anecdotes from the filming of Leone's movie can be watched. At the beginning of March, Carmen and I moved to enjoy this magnificent natural scenery recovered by the volunteers of the SAD HILL ASSOCIATION perfectly integrated into a nature of limestone escarpments and old junipers, which caught the attention of Sergio Leone ... and take some shots with the Phantom 3. This is the result. I hope you find it interesting to those who see it. A greeting.
It would be fantastic, but it is impossible. Leone was an excellent film director and I'm just a modest amateur with a willingness to learn. Thank you very much Piet for the comparison. Have a great day. A cordial greeting, my friend.
Wow!!! Andalucía It is a good place to see birds. I will love to see the result of your filming. I'm a few hundred kilometers to the north, if you come near here, tell me if you'd like to go around here. Have a good week. Sincerely.
Muchas gracias.
Saludos.
Somehow missed your vidoes the last couple of month. This one is very impressive. I understand the cementary was made for one of the Sergio Leone films? Muy impressionate es!!
Hello Udo. Now i can not answer. I'm busy. As soon as I have a little time I answer everything. But I really appreciate the correction you have made to me regarding the concept of heaven. I do not have a very fluent English and I use the Google translator. Anyway, it's not a good excuse. Without a doubt, I should have paid more attention during my high school studies. Best regards, my friend :-)
Hello Udo. The last months I've been taking pictures. I bought a camera this summer and I've been practicing with it and editing the results so I've left a bit of the video recordings aside. I like many things in the world: Nature, photography, documentaries, and especially the cinema. I am also very mythomaniac. One night, I heard an interview with the director of a documentary called "Unearthed Sad Hill" on a local radio program. In the interview he talked about the movie "The good the ugly and the bad" a western spaghetti starring Eli Wallach, Lee Van Cliff and Clint Eastwood. It is considered one of the 100 best films in the history of cinema. The last 20 minutes of it take place in a circular military cemetery where an innovative duel takes place. The film was shot in 1966 and the natural scenery was abandoned. The passage of time had made it disappear, but a group of young people from the area of Burgos, where it was filmed, voluntarily carried out work to recover it. This is the final result. It seemed to me apotheosis, not only because I found myself in the same place where the scene was shot, the same place where those magnificent actors and that wonderful director were, but because of the effort that a group of volunteers had made altruistically, for the mere pleasure to recover a small part of the history of cinema. I knew after listening to that interview that one day I would go see that. Flying the drone that morning gave me great satisfaction. I'm glad you liked the result. If you have the chance, do not stop watching the movie, and if you feel like it you can see an interview whose link I have posted in the description, it is subtitled in English and delves into it. I liked it a lot. I see for your videos that you usually travel a lot to see and film birds in other countries of the world. If one day you pass through Spain, and you are near my city Zaragoza, it would be a pleasure to share a day in the hide of the scavengers. You just have to let me know in advance. You're invited. Thanks again for watching and commenting on the videos. Sincerely. See you in YT.
I have seen the movie several times Antonio and the other ones by Sergio Leone. Actually I will be in Spain in 2 weeks in Andalucia. I am staying for a month visting birding spots on my electric bicycle. You will see the result in 6 weeks on my UA-cam channel!
You didn’t need to change the music finally? It’s an amazing work that these young people have done to recreate this place. Magnificent views of drone from this place Antonio! Also, thank you for the informations. Greetings, Annie
If you want, you can watch the link to another video. It is subtitled in inglish. I think that it is interesting for watching. Do it if you want. If you do it, I hope it will be interesting for you. Have a nice Day friend.
I have changed the interpretation of the music. After it was interpreted by the Danish National Simphony Orchestra, ans now I have used de original sound track of the film. Nobody has reclaimed about copy right by the moment.
Hey, you are back, it’s been a while. That is quite an interesting story here, Toño, thanks for bringing that alive in your great ‘remake’. Very graphic. I am a big fan of Clint Eastwood. Greetings!
Hello, Monique. I've taken a little UA-cam vacation to try to take some pictures of the birds and nature in general. It consumes all my time, but I am motivated by the novelty. A few days ago we had a little vacation around here and I was recording some things with the drone. This is one of them. I'm glad you liked it. We share the admiration for Eastwood. I keep watching the video works of my friends, but I'm not very talkative. I limit myself to enjoy your work. A cordial greeting, my friend. A pleasure to read you. See you by YT.
