Herman. I quit playing guitar after college ; but after finding your channel’s and seeing your joy in playing, I resumed playing. Thank you for the joy and music you make!
100%. Lots of reviewers on youtube can be dishonest for money/free gear. Herman doesn’t need the money or free gear they might offer, so you know his opinion will be legit.
this is the first donner test that i’ve seen where the pitch shifter is used thank you for confirming that it has one 😭 the world owes you a debt of gratitude Herman Li
By now we all know it's not the guitar, the amp, or the pedal; it is completely about the guitarist. A good one can make any piece of equipment sound good. Just like you do Mr Herman! I wish I could jam like you do. I've been practicing my 3 string CBG, but I developed tendonitis. So now I have to curtail my practicing, but I am not giving up. Be even if I practiced 24 hours a day, I would never be as good as you are. But that doesn't matter, its about the love of music creation. And I do enjoy that part very much. So I will keep playing even though I am not very good at all. But again I enjoy music and playing it is the best thing ever.
I bought one of these because of Herman's review, and I'm very happy with it. I can honestly say this is a great review by Herman. It's a fair, honest and accurate review! Well done sir!
Good to see an unbiased review of the Donner Arena 2000. I recently purchased one for use in my budget home studio, and have been very impressed with the range of amp, cabs and effects on offer. I would like to add that this unit also features a really good mobile app, and can be controlled almost entirely through Bluetooth, making this even more versatile than many other much higher priced multi FX units.
Sadly, the one flaw in the otherwise brilliant collection of effects is the pitch shifter. This effect is pretty weak, to the point where I haven't used it in any of my custom patches. If you are looking to use the pitch shifting effect a lot, then maybe this unit is not for you.
Lots of reviewers on youtube can be dishonest for money/free gear. Herman doesn’t need the money or free gear they might offer, so you know his opinion will be legit. Thank you 🙏🏽
These units are great for anyone. Beginner to pro. I have a similar budget unit from Valeton. Would I take on a world stadium tour? No. But I do take it from room to room in my house, backyard, etc. and plug it into anything with an audio input. Works as a second unit for when friends come over, etc.
This looks like exactly what I want for my starting setup. A good investment with a lot of options and room to play, learn, and grow. Just snagged one using your Amazon link. Thank you!
"Most" pedals/FX sound good on solos. The real test (as most guitarists know) is how good it sounds in Rhythm guitar and especially palm mutes. That is where the emulated sound of the amp speaker "pushing air" will make or break the effect. These videos typically don't demo that much because it will shine a bright light on the weakest area.
Herman's set up is much more spacious but the way Herman worked the pedal it had a unique sound in comparison I don't have the talent to pull anything good out of these tools but was a really fun video to watch. Thanks
Yep. It is surprising that people that have the money for expensive equipment believe that they think it makes them sound so much better. It is skills that make them sound good. Herman just showed that with a sub $500 setup he could sound phenomenal. I seen Dragonforce on stage in San Antonio, TX at EdgeFest around 20 years ago and was blown away, and if he would have had this same cheap setup, I would still have been mesmerized with his performance. Not sure how this pedal would work in a large arena, but with a small venue then it would be more than enough. I was looking at it on Amazon....I am now sold.
Was it going through an audio interface or straight into an amp? I have to admit, it's very impressive for this price range!!! Hello from Ottawa, Canada!
I can still hear an echo in that room... Sounds like you need more guitars, to help reduce the echo... Still blown away at what you get out of this pedal. Donner has come a long way
Pretty interesting. Currently I'm using a BOSS ME-80 that does a pretty good job, but it doesn't do IRs, backing tracks, or a few other things that this one does.
I love how simple to use it is.. I have BOSS GT-100 and building sound on that thing is a nightmare. ME models from BOSS are the simplified versions of what I got, but this is even better then BOSS ME multi-FX and cheaper.
Merci herman li pour cette présentation. Je suis a la recherche de multi effets et rien de mieux que mon idole pour me renseigner. Dragon force forever 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
I was thinking for the price that it couldn't be that good but now I have totally changed my mind and I have seen them at my local Music Store and am thinking of buying one just for a back up.
Get a Schecter Demon FR 6 with Active pick ups , run you about 4-500$ and will definitely give you metal and cleans I play stairway to heaven and in one foot press I’m playing Metallica . I also have a NUX MIGHTY SPACE AMP it’s is completely portable rechargeable for busking and plugs into monitor with tons of effects too in your phone 📱
I think Donner muti effects pedal might be expensive while the American one got it cheap. I like how they got the whammy pedal sound, Wah pedal, And all of these iconic sounds that have been patched. At least I wanted to patch these iconic guitar sounds from other Rock Bands.
Anybody familiar with the valeton gp200? I’m curious how it compares to this one, as I’m interested in a multi effects pedal that’s very flexible and capable of what this can do
Wow they’re becoming sleek looking. Thanks, Nice review! I haven’t finished putting together my analog pedal over the years for hobby due to busy work, I think by the time I’m ready, they’re obsolete 😝 Because these new multi effects looks better every year especially if you’re aiming for direct recording.
Maybe 15 years ago something so affordable wouldn’t sound as good. But now with technology advancements, cheap things are on par with really expensive things from 20 years ago.
Does anybody know if he is playing through amp/speakers and mic it up to computer or if he is playing with the effect unit as a USB interface/soundcard directly into the computer ? I was thinking about replacing my Scarlett Focusrite Solo/Studio with something I can use both to play and record to the computer while also bring it to band practice to use for effects and wah wah to the amp I have there and also maybe play live with it. I wonder if I use it as a DAW/USB interface to the computer if the quality is the same or perhaps even better than my Focusrite USB interface for recording and such. It also would be interesting to compare this to the Headrush MX5, it is double the money at around 500$ but has DSP core/cores. The Headrush MX5 is a pretty popular "budget" choice compared to the Line 6 Helix and more expensive stuff, but is it double as good as the Donner Arena 2000 sound and feature-wise, would be interesting to know.
I was going to ask if you had thoughts on the headrush mx5 but that has a drum machine built in that kind of beats the mx5 because it doesn't have a drum machine
What bothers me with what seems to be a chronic trait necessary for this current generation of digital units is we're still stuck needing a noise gate. *I have enough of a formal education in science and electronics engineering to know the solution and employ it in my own designs and hand built equipment.* The good news is, we're at least now getting digital semiconductors designed specifically for guitar or specifically for vocals or specifically for processing audio of any kind. *What I will close with is, my background also gives me an extremely sound understanding of what these products are costing manufacturers, and it's ridiculously low even lower than everyone assumes.* This is the case with virtually all electronics though but especially digital. *I look even at analog products that cost $300 though, and I know there's $10 in them after I see the schematic!* This is inclusive of hardware, circuit devices, the PCB, and minor human labor right down the the electricity used to manufacture 1 unit. *With that said, there are still devices like these gizmos where 200 or $250, they are indeed worth but the markup is still pretty ridiculous.*
