Glad to see you guys got one of these. We’ve had the On the Go Water Softener since day 1 cause it was sold to us with the camper. Game changer, we wouldn’t live in the camper without now! Wish we had the double model though vs the smaller standard.
It’s awesome. My beard is so luxurious now. 😂😂. We checked the levels today after running it for 3 weeks and it’s still showing 0 ppm. Water tastes great, no smell, and skin isn’t all cracked. We love this thing!
We purchased the On The Go about 8 years ago after being on the road for a year. We know have on plumbed in with a automatic head. Nice video, thanks for sharing.
We are only 'part timers' but I still got the double model, for the times we're away for a few months. I've had it for 3 years, albeit it's only been used over a period of two months, and never did need a regeneration! Next trip we'll again be using it, and I thought I'd come on UA-cam to check out the 'hooking up' of the unit, and you never mentioned if you use a water regulator, which we do, which I believe is set for 45 psi. of water pressure. We found quite a difference, mainly when taking a shower, as we live in an area of soft water, and we now have it again when we travel, so the On The Go certainly does the job, and I was surprised at how long one can go before regeneration, albeit that's not difficult to do either.
We use a regulator and totally forgot to mention it! Good catch. RV park water pressure can be very different from park to park and you’d definitely don’t want to risk busting a line. We’ve been through a few different kinds and finally settled in the 45-50 psi cheap model. So far we’ve recharged it twice and it’s very simple. Backflush and then regen. It’s a great product and happy to see you’re loving yours. Good luck and safe travels!
That’s great! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. The back flush and regeneration is really simple to complete. Haven’t done a video on that yet but maybe in the Sorin. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! -Chris & Suzannah
Thanks man. Met you at the Tampa Super RV show this year. This exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the instructions...clear instructions. I'll be sure to give you the credit when I do my video. Have a blessed day. See you on the road 👍🏽👍🏽🚎🚐🚌
Great video Chris.. it is crazy how much hard water can hurt a RV water system. We weren’t aware there was a RV water softener either! Thanks for sharing! Chasing RV Sunshine ☀️ Joel, Deb & 🐕 Maya
Hard water is especially bad in the Southwest but overall many rv parks are on well water so you get what you get. Hard water, taste issues, odor, etc. Were really happy with our system. -Chris & Suzannah
Outstanding video Chris! My wife and I are recent full timers, and this has been a primary concern since day one, albeit I've only installed the Camco filter purchased from Walmart. In the 3 months so far, I've noticed a buildup in the shower head, and faucets, and no without a doubt that the single Camco wasn't the final solution. We've recently bought the OTG DBL, which i can't wait to install. I also still have questions regarding the filtering prior to the softner, but feel this will be a necessary part of my filtration system going forward. I noticed you have the E2W Tandara, we have the E2W KRB2600, which we love. We've upgraded to a Sprinter 3550MLS due to a lack of storage, and overall living space. I look forward to your future videos!
Phillip, welcome to full time RVing!! You will see an immediate improvement with the OTG! We love it. We’re still running the cheap camco filter before it, mostly because we had a bunch of them. Ha ha. We are talking about upgrading to the Clear2O. We’ve heard good things but they’re almost 3x the price. Just looked at the Sprinter online. That’s a good looking rig. Nothing like the living space in a fifth wheel! Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment. We truly appreciate the support. Safe travels! -Chris & Suzannah
@@HintonTheTrail I've been investigating the Clearsource filtering system, but have even considered running 2 Camco filters inline. The thought that occurred to me is while I want to protect my camper systems, it's obviously based on testing of the water to determine what's required. Regardless, I'm of the firm conviction that the water softener is a requirement! The 3x the price has been a show stopper for us as well, and may be moved to next years list!
I'm at 2 minutes. great video! I regened my home softener tonight for the first time.,.. by mistake... I was going through the menus.. I selected it .. but thought I cancelled... sure enough 1 am roles around.. it starts draining. and an hour long process insures. everyone should have this to protect themselves from crappy water. Thank you. Ahh, the house regen process at night. That’s a good way to wake the family up. Ha ha. We can’t say enough about this soft water system. Every once in awhile we do not set it up because we’re in a quick turn and burn for a night and we can tell the difference. You have a 7-stage? Would you be willing to send us some info and pics in an instant message to our facebook? It’s Hintonthetrail. -thank you! Chris & Suzannah
Hi Chris, I just watched your very informative video. Do you know what is the model number of the water softener that is half the size? Thanks very much. Tony
We really didn’t either until the battle with water spots, buildup, and dry skin became too much. Now we’re living the good life. The water is clean, odorless, and tastes great.
Hello Hinton the Trail! We found your channel in the Camping UA-cam Community Support group on Facebook. We've gotten used to hard water living here in Arizona. We're building a box van camper on our channel right now and plan to go full time at some point. We look forward to seeing you out there on the road but in the meantime let's keep in touch.
That sounds like a fun build! We are really happy we invested in the soft water unit. There are other ones they you can build in to the RV but this one works well for us. We’ll have to hop over and check out your channel!
Who thinks about hard water being an issue when they start out RVing? We didn't, but after two years of dealing with it we'd had enough. The On The Go Portable Water Softener is the solution and the install is wicked easy. Do you have one of these simple but life-changing softeners?
Hey Luis. We’re doing well. We’ve just been using the non-iodized Mortons. The instructions say you can use either. It doesn’t matter. Go with whatever’s cheaper. Ha ha.
@@HintonTheTrail thank you. I appreciate your rapid response. Mine needs regen again. Maybe I'll use the Morton's I used that in my old Culligan system back in my bricks and sticks. Thanks have a blessed day!!
Hey Mike, good catch on that. There is a resin in the unit “UNIT contains Cation Exchange Resin that is either light gold or light amber”. This was the first time suing it and that resin hadn’t settled. Over the next year plus of use we never had that issue again.
Hey brother! How you and the family are blessed. This is Luis ftom "Our empty nest journey" channel. Can you tell how often do you add salt? We are full time RV'ers. And we have it now for about 2 months straight. Any thoughts would appreciate it. 👍🏽
No. We never did one. It’s pretty easy though. Make sure you do the backflush first. Then pour in the salt and let it run at a trickle for about 25 minutes and then full for another 5-7.
What happens if you are not full time and you have to store it for the winter or say 2-3 week in-between trips? will mold start to grow inside? what kind of maintenance do you have to do in that case?
David, you would perform a backflush, then regeneration, then drain all water from the system and then store it. The directions that come with the kit have all the steps. We actually had ours stored for about 6 months and no issues. Hope this helps! -Chris
Thank You. Where I will keep the trailer, it will possibly freeze at night. I plan to build an insulated box to keep the water softener in with heat tape on the supply line to it. with insultation wrap on the output from the water softener. @@HintonTheTrail
