Insert a 3/4 wood dowel to make it stiffer

Thank you so much for sharing. I built one use steel pipe instead of PVC. It was a little more but so worth it. Fir the cost of one grooming visit I can groom my maltipoo whenever he needs it.

For those looking to save some extra costs, they do make PVC adapters that screw directly into the 1/2" male thread of the light cover and then has a 3/4" slot for the pipe to slide into. Essentially this removes the pipe nipple and the bushing.

Wow!! Thanks so much for this video. I have a miniature poodle that needs a trimming every 2 to 3 months and $35 to $40 has gotten to be too much. And each year the prices go up $5.
This DIY was very helpful and as a single mom I don't get time for much of nothing, but this is worth the time and investing in. I'm going to get all the parts and do it myself and save the MONEY. You saved me a lot of money. Thanks

This would absolutely not work with any dog that has a difficult time holding still. But you can often find used equipment on Facebook marketplace, and such. I got a 48 inch overhead arm for 20 bucks from somebody who decided they couldn’t handle grooming their own dog anymore.

Those groomer arm are spendy 65 and up! I have always groomed without tying up the dogs most of the time. Homemade liver treats (super high value) I find create a very cooperative dog. Homemade arm coming up, wood or pvc or galvi pipe. Some pvc pipe is a lot stronger and thicker than some other.

Great to hear.. go with what will work for the size of you buddy. While in lock down in COVID I let several of my neighbors use my arm - it really helps!

Go industrial pipes not pvc. It’s just a suggestion.
