"Can be bought for £1,500"… Ahh, I remember when they were that cheap… The prices nowadays are fucking ridiculous for what they are, it's like the Emperor's new clothes.
***** You could get a pretty good one, but mint? No. You're looking at at least £15k for a mint one. And if has under 40,000 miles then you're looking at upwards of £20k.
Ross Geller this time last year as a parts car for my dads 1.6 cti, it was too good to break, car didnt get much attention on an auction got lucky and got it cheap
I had a 1994 205 GTi 1.9 Classic, No. 7 of 30 limited edition cars imported to New Zealand( & Australia), had p/s, aircon, & factory sliding glass sunroof, black leather upholstery & a moulded plastic inlet manifold(unlike the cast alloys) . Great car but I wanted a 406 Coupe V6 5 speed so the wee Pug had to go. Boo hoo!! I was GIVEN a basket case 205 CTi 1.6 in October 2021 & during Covid lockdown have been restoring it, hard to get parts out here, but a ex workshop Pug mate has 4 on his land, all outside in weather, so been able to get many parts from him. Had to cut & weld nearside floor due to rust, completely sandblast floor & underside, re-underseal, much use of angle grinder!. Latest setback has been having 2 cyl head bolts break in block when head removed, badly corroded head, so found another 1.6 engine & that in now. Will have to repaint whole car. Soft top is OK. Had 2 CTIs when younger & 2 GTis, so love the little pocket rockets.
@@luciustitius Have a tungsten grey 1.9gti with mi16 also, 1st car i bought when 18yrs old back in 1997 lmao. Also have a genuine Dimma in white , with mi16 engine lol. Needs restored, but its the retirement fund. Gaining value daily 😁
@@WHITEY205GTI6 I bought a 205 1.6 in grey in 1987. Was a fantastic car - only thing was that I couldn’t sit in it upright because of the sun roof. Loved it nontheless - would not mind to have one as my last car…enjoy yours!
@@WHITEY205GTI6 That wasn’t an option for me back in the days plus mine. After four years of slight abuse it was quite worn down with a mileage of 16k - I traded it for a green Miata MX-5 (this one I still own😉).
this was the 2nd best hot hatch after the VW Golf GTI MK1 the original hot hatch the best hot hatch of all time. i love the 205 GTI but they are just so rare and many arent original. an original 205 GTI must be worth a fortune.
Ive had 2 mk1 golf gti's 1.6 and 1.8 plus a 8v & 16v mk2, Ive had both 205 gti's, they wern't built as well as the golfs but was a better car to drive, the 1.9 was as fast as the 16v golf but handled better, both had crap breaks and the 205 had better head lights. The 205 felt like an adventure and was straing at the lead to get going in any gear, the golfs never had that feel but were still brilliant cars but the 205 1.6 and 1.9 were much more fun driving experiences.
205 has always been a better hot hatch than the Golf im afraid. Its a bench mark car, even today. The Golf started this all off and that wont ever be taken away from it, but for feel and driving pureness, the 205 was on another level.
Testing the DB at the exhaust tip is not the conventional way and is crazy. I can't think of any car that would pass even in standard trim. If that's how Bedford or this track day company test for DB there's no way I'd bother. Means every car will end up with a stupid baffle on the exhaust tip which would change airflow and alter the tune. Seems crazy. Most tracks use drive by DB meters at the trackside, when measuring a specific car the norm' is to measure half a meter away from the exhaust.

Yeah. A few months ago I checked how expensive they are. I thought:" Well 10k should be enough for the best of the best." I was so wrong :P
