  • So I decided to test the Fiber IR on the F1 Ultra a little more. To my surpriseiIt failed on 10% power (at least my unit did). There were some halos and other minor details so far that I have encountered and more to be tested on a second video.

    as important as overscan is - it is amazing that they have not done something to fix that. Your only option is to really slow down to try and avoid the issue.

      I use the default with smart on this test. The next metal test is going full manual and nothing Xtool smart for sure. Normally the smart path takes longer on everything

    I'm pretty sure that it did fire at 10% just was too weak and fast to see or yield any results. Even running that low of power barely does anything to plastics. My tests showed almost the the same thing. For my testing the only metal the showed any results at 10% was titanium, copper, rose gold, and anodizing aluminum. Everything else was barely noticeable.
    Side note - The F1 and F1 Ultra need to be fully LightBurn compatible, to get the full capabilities out of these machines. Right now they are just under basic galvo.

      I usually mark pla at 100% on a 2w. So 10% on a 20w should be fine. But does not fire

      xTool is doing a real disservice to it's customers by not having their machines conform to the standards that all the better companies do to make sure they work with LB.

      Still doing test and finding inconsistent results hard to say this works or this doesn't because is kind of random. Works perfectly on one and when I send the same.thinn as a repeat job fails and doing it for a third time can be perfect or fail there is no way to have a real result so far

    Have you reached out to them directly to see what's going on? My first IR 2w module for my S1 was defective and they replaced it for me. The second works, but I'm starting to see 2w is just a joke. My F1 Ultra arrives tomorrow. So I will try your settings at some point to see if maybe your unit is having issues, or if there is a thing that Xtool needs to patch/update?

      I think overscan would definitely solve the halo issue, and I think Daniel eluded to that in the start of the video briefly...that it was mostly due to not having overscan. Not having overscan means that the laser beam has more energy at the edges that is not disbursed out evenly as it is in the other areas of the engraving...which can lead to many failures. Daniel knows this and is trying to illustrate what the XCS software does and how it performs on its own...and not using the laser with 3rd party software.

    • @gregparker5732
      @gregparker5732 3 місяці тому +3

      @@lasersandbeyond Agreed, the extra energy from stopping and changing directions on the design, shows most in the mid-values and is not effecting shading as much at the low or high end. Some areas of the machine and software are not "Ultra" yet.

    I think it's most likely that at 10% it's just not enough power to affect the stainless steel. I doubt 11% would have marked either in that test, but somewhere between 10% and whatever the next power level was is the minimum power for stainless steel.

    • @AlivePixelCreates
      @AlivePixelCreates  3 місяці тому +2

    I'm confused why it matters so much to you how it looks on what are considered unusable combinations. The optimal results are on the bottom of the card, so naturally the ones that are not optimal will look like garbage. I don't see any of what you're calling "halo" in the good areas, so why does it matter?

    • @AlivePixelCreates
      @AlivePixelCreates  3 місяці тому +1

      So lower power or faster speed doesn't mean garbage. A consistent machine will make the engraving with no problems just not as define. I've been using multiple machines so is not like I have no idea what would happen. Also why is not firing at 10% power. Because it is not needed? Based on your input it is not full blast power wind do good. That is not how lasers.work tho

    • @lasersandbeyond
      @lasersandbeyond 3 місяці тому

      @AlivePixelCreates but those areas you mention look like garbage, I can't think of a single time I'd use an engraving like that, there is hardly any material removed and it's not whay you look for in a coated metal card, you want to reveal the shiny metal underneath
      I never said lower power or faster speed meant garbage, I said the results you pointed out with halos looked like garbage anyway and we're not in the realm of acceptable engraving. None of thise marks provide the mark a person is looking for when doing metal cards, so why does it matter if there are things there you don't like....they are shit marks anyway
