Not because I'm Australian, not because I'm a huge Chisel/Barnsey/Mossy fan, I just genuinely think this is one of the best live performances by anyone ever, it's right up there and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. Great pick Alex, you're winning for me, but what will Chris choose I wonder? ❤
I'll fight them with you 👍
I lived in Manly and saw Chisel at the Manly Vale Hotel at least 3 times... In fact it was one of the iconic pubs were all the great Aussie bands of the 70's and 80's came and played week after week for years... The talent on display was world class.. It held around 1,000 or so people and there were so many beer cans on the floor you could reach the moon and back... Yeeeeee ew. Friday night - Angels... Saturday Night - Chisel... Next week Divinals - Radiators
great times
Chisel are the kind of band you sometimes forget about, while you go in search of new music that excites you. Then after a while of umming and ahhing and quickly losing interest in those bands who only ever produce one great song on an album of ho-hum, then you hear a chisel song and you just wanna hear more. That's when you realise "Oh yeah, they are my favourite band of all time!" Even your least favourite song, is better than all that other ho-hum crap. ✌️🤣💟
So much heart, so much passion, so much relatability.
Btw, the band last toured in 2019 through to 2020, but unfortunately had to miss some areas due to the bush fires.
Just can’t ever have enough of this performance. Live gold.
This is the best track of the year followed by Cold Chisel Wild Thing.
No fancy fireworks, no dancers, no special sets - just the band and their enormous talent! WOW! Cold Chisel are the GOAT!
can't listen to Bow River just once, I've listen to most of Bow River reactions, cant get enough of it...
Well thanks for finding ours! Welcome
Anyone who doesn't head-bang to this song, is dead inside. Just brilliant!
When Cold Chisel are on form they are the greatest rock and roll band in the world.
Chisel is one of my all time favourite bands....
Fun fact....
Barnsey No 1 Christmas album has increased his lead in highest number of no 1 albums in Australia to 20.... 15 solo and 5 in chisel
Hey Chris! Thanks so much for showing these geezers the right path!
HI again guys,Great choice Alex! Dont know if you will remember me but i posted a story about Ian Mossys guitar re- spray. Thanks for replying about that story. I have many memories and stories of my connection with Chisels early days when they first arrived in sydney from Adelaide.
Very cool!
Chisel will never fade away .timeless classic .if your Aussie this band is your DNA
I've rewatched your reaction to this about 8 times now, so this was a great surprise! Hey, Chris! I never get tired of Chisel, and tbh, give me ALL the Chisel all the time lol. This song, and Janelle and Saturday Night are just timeless and fire! Happy New Year, everyone! Love from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
Jimmy is as relevant as ever. I hear Cold Chisel songs being played on radio regularly. They are as relevant as ever too. You can't forget all the studio pieces Jimmy put out during Australia's lockdown. He kept us all going. He'll be touring again 2023. It just goes without question that a Chisel song would be chosen as a greatest 2022 pick. So many more to explore in 2023. Happy New Year guys. Chris, oomph up for your choice or you'll be left in the dust.
Absolutely! Also, Woolies and Coles regularly pipe Cold Chisel and Jimmy for shoppers.
@@Laraine3 Yes, I hear them while shopping. I forgot thanks for the reminder
This performance is the GOAT…. It’s July 2023 and watching it again! So fucking brilliant!
Happy Gnu Ears,
never enough chisel and Barnesy for us here. Especially love Barnesy collaborations.
You do get a lot of both, on your classic rock type stations. Chisel were magic live.
As I am Barnesy’s age, I remember a world before Chisel. I took, the for granted a bit. Your appreciation has reminded me how good they all are.
Again great musicians playing for the joy of it. Great rock and roll all about the music.
I knew this was going to be a jam when the guy broke out the harmonica. Alex, this is a definite banger!
One of the best rock songs ever written, Bow River just delivers on every front. It’s phenomenal. This has my vote, nice work Alex!
Back in the day, you'd expect to hear a guitar solo, a drum solo, maybe even a keyboard or sax solo. But this is the only song I know of that features a harmonica solo and pulls it off.
Watching this performance is just on another level. stunning, it just takes you away
Well I know where my vote is going. I knew it would be Bow River. Absolute stonker...haha
You have great taste Alex ...
Yay
I saw Chisel in the Adelaide Uni Mayo Refectory in the 80's. Jimmy polished off an ENTIRE bottle of straight vodka on stage, by himself, within a few songs. Then I just remember him shouting out something about "*mumble* *mumble* f****n c****s down the front *mumble* *mumble* f****n c****s down the back", before just heading off somewhere. He left the band cold, and Mossy took over and sang a few songs like Georgia etc. A memorable experience lol.
Also the 'harp player' you guys are referring to is David Blight. I used to go see him play in a band called The Flyers, at the Tivoli Hotel in the CBD of Adelaide. Gotta be in the top few harp players in the world. Chisel loved him and vice versa. Nice bloke too.
I am in the same position, Chisel has always been a part of my life, since first seeing them live in a small high school assembly hall (with support act The Divinyls) I was hooked, they are the greatest live act i have seen for pure and great rock and roll no BS no glitz light show or dancers needed just volume up brilliant music awesome singing ROCK & ROLL at its greatest. Ty guys glad this was your pick, yes Chisel will tour again they had started a tour before Jimmy had to have his surgery so the answer is YES Chisel in 2023 so book your flights LOL
Stay Safe Stay Strong and may 2023 be a great year for you and yours 🦘🦘🦘🦘🎇🎇
I’ve just flown to the top end near enough to Bow River…. It’s monsoon season and the rain is pelting down. Love the performance 🎉
Another great thing is that all members wrote great songs.
I saw them live many times in the late 70s & early 80s .Crammed into beer barns like the Family Inn,Manly Vale ,Macquarie Uni the list goes on.They occupy a special place in the social history of Australia.
It should also be noted that Barnes,Moss & Walker are all still performing. Don Walker was part of Don,Tex & Charlie who have put out maybe 3 albums . His songwriting skills are off the charts & having Tex Perkins singing them was genius.
I think we need a Cruel Sea reaction! I vote for Better get a lawyer or The Honeymoon is over. I would also vote for Tex doing a Cash performance or a Stones performance too.
@@jennifermason9557 I have seen 2 versions of Cash stage show One at the Opera House & the second at the now decommissioned Parramatta Prison. Tex did the full Folsom Prison set on a stage set up in the exercise yard.Brilliant.
The last time I saw Don Walker performing at the Riverboats Festival at Echuca, he was performing with his band called "The Comfortable F*cks". True story!
Can't go wrong with anything Chisel or Jimmy related. They will always have my vote. Interested to see what Chris delivers tomorrow.
Guys my favourite Chisel track has always been 4 Walls, but it's only about 3 minutes long. Would make a good bonus track the next time you show Chisel or Barnesy. Btw Jimmy and the Boys was a punk band here in Australia.
You haven't heard Ian Moss truly sing until you hear him sing Georgia on my Mind.
I saw Chisel in 1998 in Dubbo. i had a job that night doing the catering for the show and had an uninterrupted view of the stage. Only time i have been paid to watch
My local supermarkets,Woolies & Coles pays Chisel, Jimmy and Farnsy
When I was 13 or 14, I used to wish like crazy that I was 5 or 10 years older so I could see bands like Chisel, Aussie Crawl, Angels etc live at pubs instead of only hearing them on radio or seeing them mime their hits on Countdown (the Oz equivalent of TOTP). Chisel were always a 'radio band' to me, but thanks to the internet I get to see clips from their live performances and appreciate them even more 😊
same
Had seen them at the Manly Vale hotel as well as INXS and both soooo brilliant! 👏👏👏👏
Thankyou gentlemen - Seasons greetings and best wishes. My vote is for Bow River. Cheers
Never gets old ❤
Chris please make them react to Jimmy Barnes Stone Cold featuring Joe Bonamassa Studio version. These two have reacted to plenty of Chisel but not one Jimmy Barnes song from his solo career.
Second that
Top track fer sure. Back in the 80's we used to go camping at Moore river just north of Perth in West Oz. We renamed this as "back in Moore river". Sounds a lot like the way it's sung. Like your background, and thanks Chris for joining in
Great track! The Thamesmen's "best of 2022" scoreboard, from my point of view, reads Alex's choice of Cold Chisel leading, George's choice of Them Crooked Vultures second, waiting on Chris' selection.
Goal for tomorrow, listen to the 8 (or so) different performances of Bow River back to back, from the studio version to the latest live version, 2016, which is even more manic. “I’ve been working hard, 12 hours a day (yeah, right!)” 😂
Every performance is a classic.
Great Chisel Track.... but can we all just take note that at the 18min 10sec point Alex himself subliminally and unknowingly requested 'Regurgitator' ... another Talented Aussie Trio who Blitzed through the late 90's with some awesome 'Alternative ElectroPop' Tunes. Just Sayin.
Barnesy is still king of rock in Aus without doubt 😊. He IS Aussie rock!!
I can't imagine Cold Chisel without Steve Prestwich. Sadly, he passed away back in 2011. RIP Steve Prestwich.
They are still extremely relevent, and that goes for the whole band. Still touring and got some coming next year. There isnt a pub with an old juke box that someone wont walk over and play some Cold Chisel or Jimmy Barnes every day. Especially when it comes to Australia Day or other big events on the calender. Young and old both still listen to these lads belting out their classics.
Delighted you picked this track, Alex. It was my first Chisel and is still my very favourite. I'd heard Barnsey before but was blown away by Mossy-his voice and guitar playing. Then add the "harp"god, the keyboard, and the drums and you got a party. I think you're a winner, but let's see if Chris can top that. George, your track deserves special mention, but....
Cheers from Canada.
The bass player is also awesome.
@@Mrmikey0909 Yes, absolutely. They're all awesome. My bad.
I watched the first video twice this morning. And enjoyed the crap out of this one. So glad Alex has good taste....
Yeah!!! Cheers Alex.
As one of likely very few of your subscribers who has actually been to, nay camped at, Bow River (the one in the 'great top end' of the remote East Kimberley, not the one in the South West), I heartily concur with this choice.
1st time I saw Chisel was 15 Jan 1978 at a free concert in Victoria Park, Sydney put on by radio station 2SM - also on the bill were Sherbet, John Paul Young and some band called U-Turn that I can't remember at all. This was the first big concert Chisel played in Sydney and I was immediately hooked. [I had to google to remember the details]
The last time I saw them was at Parramatta Stadium 24 January 2020 and also on the bill that day were Busby Marou, Birds of Tokyo and the Hoodoo Gurus. The concert was right between the worst bush fires on record and the Covid lock down the following week. In a crowd of 40K one day and not allowed out a few days later. I took my son and husband, both of which had not seen Chisel before. They both loved it.
In between those 2 concerts I've seen them too many times to count in pubs, clubs, stadiums. I think the smallest venue was the Bayview Tavern in Gladesville in about 1980. Their shows are always great
My vote is obviously for Bow River - Alex's song
Bow River is definitely The BEST track from Chisel! Perfect choice 👏👏👏 Happy New Year to you two and please play Lime Cordiale doing Dirt cheap at JJJ “Like A Version” show and also they do an amazing “I Touch Myself” ( hence “Like A Version Show). JJJ have new bands on who do one original and one cover and it’s brilliant! It’s totally live and great!
Pure good times
It is worth looking at some of Jimmy Barnes or Ian Moss' solo songs. They both have some brilliant hits.
Don't know why its taking so long. Both had bigger hits solo than they ever did in Chisel,Barnes having a shitload.
Couple of songs for you :)
Counting the Beat - The Swingers
Black-Eyed Bruiser - Stevie Wright
Eleanor Rigby - Zoot
Blue Day - Mi-Sex
One Perfect Day - Little Heroes

Yes Alex, your track is the best track.
Yes!!!
Bow River has always been my, absolute favourite Cold Chisel song! The band at their very best, how could you ever get sick of Chisel? Don't know what Chris has chosen but this one will take a power of beating.
All three great tracks. Some end of year fun for us!
Boys all these old bands are on the nostalgia tours. There's heaps of festivals and shows these bands hit.
I will be seeing Mossy at Ballarat North Gardens on March 4 as part of Red Hot Summer Tour. Great thing about this it is just a short walk to the gig and small stumble home.
I think I deserve some sort of prize for racking up the most views by anybody for your initial reaction video on this song lol fucken gold pure master class performance from a band well past their prime too but just as good!
Thanks for the support!
This is still a long way from my favourite Chisel song but glad you rate it!
I remember buying Circus Animals off the back of the radio play of "You got nothing I want" and at the time thought Bow River was the best track. Never got released as a single but still got plenty of airplay on the new FM stations like EON FM that played whole album sides instead of just the popular singles of the time. Still one of my favourites along with "One long day" and "Breakfast at Sweethearts. Good work lads, Happy New year to you all!
Absolutely my pick for song of the year and when I first discovered Thamesmen. Closely followed by Chisel’s Wild Thing. They both stirred the fantastic memories of seeing them them live in their glory day’s in early eighties. Remember my mates and my girlfriend of the time at their shows and even the shit beer i was drinking! (Sorry XXXX but you are camel’s piss). Long live Chisel!
Shall I be the first ?
In my experience, Cold Chisel, Jimmy and Mossy are played consistently on most radio stations !
Thanks to the three of you. Happy New Year !
Methinks Adam beat you to it! 😁👍🇦🇺
@@ianleslie2326 Ah!...maybe next time !
@@iceberg5220 plenty of chisel played on my local radio station too. Helps when the DJ'S your mate lol
love the spelling! Anyway the "descent" you are curious about is known as the circle of 5ths. Its a tried and tested musical progression and can be found in a host of rock tracks world wide. Most famously, Hotel California and Gloria Gaynors I will Survive. For info - see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circle_of_fifths
It gets my vote.
you guys are missing so much cold chisel ,try fan made Tomorrow and swing shift live albulm one long day
timeless track, pretty sure it would sell huge if released again
It between that and wild thing from them when Jimmy goes into crowd and how they all freestyle
Saw Mossy and Paul Kelly live last Sunday in a paddock with 20 k others.
Bow river going off as always and Paul Kelly's gravy.
Blast from the past.
That is awesome!
Daughter took my two granddaughters to supermarket last week 2 and 4 years old. They got to the checkout and were duetting Saturday night. Only in Australia. Hell yes they are still relevant.
Anything off Last Stand movie. Do the outtake of Georgia live 1983, incredible contrast to Wild Thing, the could do it all in their prime. AND be the first to do keyboardist & chief songwriter Don Walker, 'Harry Was A Bad Bugger'.Happy to curate Don week. It's him & Paul Kelly at the top of the tree.
Oh, this was such a great move! Pretty sure this confirms you as some sort of diabolical genius, Alex. I can’t imagine how you can trump this, Chris but you need to. Australia’s reputation is riding on you now. No pressure or anything… 😂
Just to let you know Cold Chisel have toured through the 2010’s…. 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020…. Their last tour was to promote their last album Blood Moon…..they work on the theory never say never…. 2023 is Cold Chisels 50th Anniversary… they’ve done a series of albums called Live Tapes volume 1-5…so maybe volume 6 might appear….and once Jim recovers maybe summer 2023-4 might be a 50th Anniversary Tour….. top quality track Alex.
Bow River is hands down one of the greatest songs of all time and this live performance is crazy good. On another note, you CANNOT do another Australian day/week without including Matt Corby. I recommend starting with ‘Brother’ (Like a Version - live). If you’ve never heard Matt sing, prepare to have your mind blown.
I voted for this. PS Alex, if you are wondering how to prepare your voice if you want to sing like this every night, Barnesy was kind enough to demonstrate his warm-up technique on a radio show once. Here is the recording (with visual as well as audio). WARNING: turn down your volume before playing! ua-cam.com/video/Q75atw66WKo/v-deo.html
Haha! Oh, this is gold!!! 🏆
Sorry Chris and George, but to me Cold Chisel, Bow River is the greatest pick of 2022, so thank you Alex. Happy New Year to you all and look forward to 2023.
The harp man reminds me of another great band midnight oil
Camped at the junction of Bow River and Ord River whilst working on Lissadell Station. Beautiful place. The story goes that Mossy did work at the Bow River diamond mine for a short time (don't know if it is true).
Chisel are very much still relevant, their last tour in 2020 was huge. Sold out across the country and played to 50,000 on Glenelg beach….. 2023 is their 50th anniversary, so would presume a tour on the cards in the second half of the year close to Xmas imo
God I love this song. Awesome pick Alex & definitely gets my vote ✌🏼
Love you Guys...
I just can't wait til you 'let go' and Bogan out like an Aussie!!
Have a great new yrs lads so glad I found you. Great laughs great music almost perfect💕🇦🇺
cold chsrel will always part of Australia my my 15 year old
nephew loves them
Only Chisel can do a Harmonica lead solo..🇦🇺
Wow, I forgot how great they were live - incredible! 🤗😱😍 I miss live music so much! 😪😠
Me too!!
My guess was Wild Thing, but Bow River would’ve been my second guess. Great choice!!
Hard to choose between them!
The Thamesmen & the Yarraman!
Nice!
Bow river!! Got my vote!
Best one 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏼🤘🏿💋❤️
Timeless. Great.😎
I've been listening to No good for you, Star Hotel and Same old Merry go round
Really worth looking into Jimmy and Mossy’s solo careers.
Mossy has a few great albums (some electric and some acoustic). Lots of the songs on the first five albums are by Don Walker (CC piano player and main song writer) and a few from Steve Prestwich (CC drummer).
The first album had good chart success. I’m really keen on his latest album from 2018 which was produced by Peter Walker who was the producer of Cold Chisel’s self titled debut album back in 1978.
For all Australians of around my age or less (45). You don’t become aware of Chisel, you just realise that they are the band that play all of those songs you know.
nobody has forgotten until we die.
You die twice. Once with your last breath and again when those who remember you forget
They got my vote @ the Largs Pier Hotel 45 years ago! Not the same without Steve P. on the skins - Chisel’ backbone. I hope they retire with dignity right now.
I love being Australian
:)
harmonica reminds me of magpies in the gum trees
Only Chisel can do a Harmonica lead...🇦🇺.
Can't see Chisel without Steve! Soz mate,!
Bow River is my favourite, followed by Georgia.
Absolutely #1!!
Good choice 👏
