    It's always fun to know other people have your exact sense of humor. When he said "Maybe he's born with it" I instantly responded with "maybe it's Maybelline"🤣

      That's more of a susceptibility to advertizements than a sense of humour, isn't it?

    This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I saw it exactly one time and I still remember it (I couldn't handle watching it again before having to return it to Blockbuster). Compared to countless other more recent movies which I couldn't give you 2 details about a week after I saw it.

      I guess there are just too many big words for them to understand. Its hard to laugh at a joke when you need to look up the punch line in a dictionary.

    • @johnnywheatbread4385
      @johnnywheatbread4385 6 років тому +18

      @POVadventure It's hard to laugh at a joke when a joke isn't told. I've watched the show, understood every word, didn't laugh once. Their idea of a joke is to use big words. It's when you don't know the words that it is funny, because "HAHA! Smart people are sooooo unrelatable! They can't do anything normal! Look at how awkward they are!"

    • @jordansullivan5764
      @jordansullivan5764 6 років тому +9

      Yeah that's not really the issue. I'm a physicist, and I don't really find any of the show's jokes funny. It's a bizarre mix of "oh they're socially inept so they don't understand stalking/harassment" and just straight up having characters say that women are intellectually inferior to men. I think people like it because the laugh track constantly tries to trick you into thinking everything the characters say is funny.

    • @umachan9286

      @@jordansullivan5764 Try watching it without the laugh track and see how painful and unfunny it really is.

    I was pretty disappointed this didn't investigate Alex as an unreliable narrator. Pretty sure Alex can't help but lie through his teeth, and he is the narrator, the star, after all. That's my favorite part, and how that connects it to works like catcher in the rye and stuff.

    Kubrick may not have made a sequel but he di direct a counter-part, namely, Full Metal Jacket in which Marines were programmed to be violent.

    • @simpleanswer8954

      Clockwork Orange is about a dystopian future in which free will can be removed from the public, and the public is complacent. It's somewhat farcical is its representation of a populace that tolerates extremity so long as it's politicized correctly. It also reflects the subdued nature of society, and how easy it is for a person with no restraint to inflict their will on the public.
      Full Metal Jacket is about a real situation that happened to real people. The characters are fictional, but the Viet Nam war and the Tet Offensive weren't. Full Metal Jacket was about dehumanization. We dehumanize our enemy, and by doing so lose our own humanity. Joker struggles to remain a moral person in an immoral environment.
      Almost every Kubrick movie features some sort of commentary on 'mental programming'. It's how society tells us who to be in order to fit in.

    I am always disappointed when people miss a layer of the title. A 'clockwork orange' doesn't just mean something organic made mechanical. It represents an object of meticulous effort and design, intricate inner function, all for absolutely no outer function. An orange doesn't move on its own volition, so any clockwork mechanism would be pointless.

    Did.. you trim your brows, Garax? They are looking a bit anemic. You should see a barber immediately.
    Also, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE has always had a major plot hole in the end, in that if the author wanted him dead (from suicide), be it revenge for his wife and/or against the government that created the treatment... well... why call the police and/or a hospital to _rescue_ Alex when he would have "died" from his injuries? Hell, no one knew he was there, and everyone was on the same page... they could have let him die, bury the body and no one would ever know.. or care.
    So the end felt like a tacked on (Un) Happy Ending. Kubrick was such a sell out.
