How To Hit Ball First Then Turf With Your Irons | This Can Complete Your Golf Swing - In this video we take a look at Nick's golf swing and try to get a better understanding of why he’s duffing his iron shots and not hitting it as pure as he would like. It was quite clear that there was not too much wrong with Nicks golf swing. He just needed one very effective drill that will complete his golf swing in a really good way and help him hit the ball then the turf with his irons shots a lot more consistently!

Literally the first thing I searched for when I began playing golf one year ago! I didn't find a video quite as good as this one. Cheers!
Great video - using a real high handicapper like myself makes it seem more achievable for me. Thanks.
I tried changing what I was looking at. Instead of dead focused on the top of the ball, I look at the first blade of grass to the left of the ball and it forces me to swing through the ball and take the proper divot. Combined that with making sure I keep a looser grip solved most of my issues.
Another fantastic video from me and my golf...Good coaching from Andy and Pierce
Nicks' swing mirrors my own, and I can't wait to get to the range and use this method. I'm a 'scooper' and need to learn to flatten the wrist also. Great video - saved!
I struggle with this as well. This is the first time I have seen this type of drill, can't wait to give it a shot. There are no grass practice ranges unfortunately to practice this drill but we do have matts so will give the towel method a shot next time. During my "prime" golfing years in the 1990's, there was no UA-cam so I developed some BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDD habits. The biggest one is my hand position at the top of my swing, I was cupping my left wrist. Thank you for the content.
Really enjoyed that. This is what I struggle with. For us high handicap golfers we do battle to hit the ball then the turf. Will practice what you showed us. Please comment on where our hands should be at address. I have started moving my hands forward before the ball when addressing it. I feel this helps achieve what you have demonstrated to us. Another great lesson. Thank you!
Really enjoying these videos. Keep up the great work
great little lesson - as a beginner I struggle with just this sort of thing. The Faldo lesson was great too
Thanks guys. This a great video addressing and clearly explaining and demonstrating the fixes to my swing I'm looking for!
I know in a recent lesson I was told to back off my grip pressure. Turns out I was gripping the club so tight it wasnt allowing the club head to lag. It has been a difficult adjustment but the loose grip has really helped my game
I've had this problem on and off since forever. No coach could fix it, this makes so much sense. Thanks a lot 👏🏻😄
Off to try this out! I have lots of space to play with, may as well turn part of it to a range!
Would love to have a live lesson like this with you guys
I'm having the same issues as this chap, I've been playing a few months, i cant fully extended my left arm due to an elbow break, i fade the ball most shots, 😳 but I've fell in love with golf.
I'll try this technique, much appreciated info.
This issue has crept into my game recently. Coach had me on an impact bag. Easy to get a feel for that shaft lean and weight shift. At the range is the paint and practice lesson. Very similar to this. Nice one gents
I just look at the ground ahead of the ball.
I've been playing the game for years and still hit behind the ball. I know I'm supposed to shift my weight to the lead foot in the downswing. I am beside myself.
Great video. What software do you use to analize the movements.
Great iron drill will be on the range this weekend putting it to use
This is what I will be practicing at the range this week, line on the ground, shaft lean forward and turning hips into target at contact, thanks!
No worries David hope it helps you!🏌️♂️🙌
Think this has really helped as I noticed it’s more about loading the lead leg as opposed to moving the top of the body forward which I tend to do make the contact with the ground after which leads to me coming in really steep, great work guys
Thanks George, glad it’s been able to help you🏌️♂️🙌
Great guys...v clear to understand will try again tomorrow
That’s Great Phillip, hope it helps!👍
How I got better at ball striking I actually used this impact drill you guys used but I also used to hit balls from impact position to backswing it really helped me
That’s great George🏌️♂️👍
Great video and a great help, Thanks. Would you recommend the Acu-strike impact mat to help?
great video and drill... will practice it tomorrow morning... also struggling with too much lower body movement
Thanks Luis! Hope it helps🙌🏌️♂️
Thank you for sharing. Iron striking and iron distance is definitely my weak spot right now.
I love the drill, but it seems though that he is using more arms than body and there appears not much tilt in his lead shoulder? Do we even need to think about the body and shoulder tilt or do we focus on these elements once we have perfected the above strike drill.
I work on a lot of feels and fundamentals all the time but my challenge is transitioning to the golf course, starting my swing comfortably and just letting my swing develop with good tempo vs trying to hit positions.
Great work guyz👍
I really enjoyed this lesson. Can't wait to try it out
Thank you! Hope it helps👌🏌🏻♂️
what are those bands you two are wearing?
Becoming a fan!
Great video dudes, struggling with consistent shot shape with my irons any advice on that?
I tend hook my irons off the tee on Par 3's, any tips to fix this? Thanks guys!
Great Tips that I can use and need.
Thanks Michael, hope it helps👍
Well done that man, what a transformation, he looks like a good golfer now. 👍😊
No way he's a 31
So as a left handed player , all tips would be opposite for me I assume? ( ie left arm straight at impact would be right arm for me )
Just think about it in terms of lead arm and trail arm
I do a similar thing at my local range. There is some gravel just in front of the bays and it contains very small stones,I put a very small stone in front of the ball and focus on that and it has improved my ball striking a hell of a lot. Might try Athlete's foot spray from now on though.
Very worthwhile drill which I will use to improve my ball striking as well. Do you think shifting my focus from the back edge of the ball to the front edge will create a better strike once I’m actually playing a round ? 👍🏻🇦🇺
Was a great day and great to meet you all and Nick in the video
You too David!🙌🏌️♂️
I basically watch every video you guys post. I’ve learned a little bit. However. I’m struggling with irons , how do I know how far to stand away from the ball on my set up? Will standing farther away actually help with leaving divot after the ball?
Hi Claar, can I just ask what your miss with the irons would be, like when it goes wrong where does it go and what’s the ball flight?
@@meandmygolf. not sure Ball flight. I know the ball definitely gets either pulled left or it has good distance but has a very small fade right
Hello
I am 6ft 4" tall. When I use a 7 iron I need to bend my knees. At the point of impact, the classic shape seems to be a straight left left with all the weight on it. If I straighten my left leg, I then come over the ball.
Any advice on this please?
Great drill, I start my warm up with this after getting a lesson with my local pro...
That’s great Corey, has it been benefiting your ball striking?
This is exactly my issue as well. Giving this a try today.
Hope it helps Joey!🏌️♂️👍
Love to meet you guys the next time your in Las Vegas.
The at impact the club face should be more upright with the top of the face in line with the bottom. Never realized that. Off to the range tomoz to work on that
So few grass ranges around here. Any comparable drill on mat where you can’t spray a line? Thanks
I put a piece of paper or an old cloth just behind the ball, if you his behind the ball you will hit the paper or the cloth
You can also buy smash plates
Chalk line on the mat - aound 8:45 in the video
Just use foot powder spray. It won't damage the mats and it's not permanent.
Put some chalk
Great video guys. Could you make a video on how to take divots without duffing? I notice nearly all pros take a mean divot with their ball strike. It appears when I make a divot it’s a duff, it makes me envy their ability to take divots without duffing. Thanks
It seems when I stripe the ball I barely graze the ground. I’m a high 90’s player so still have a ton to work on, just wondering if you guys had any tips or could make a video regarding this. Thanks again
Good job boys good to see him improving quickly
Thanks Simeon, glad you enjoyed the video🏌️♂️👍
I hit the ball first, but still like the video. Even though hitting before the ball isn't my problem, I believe it's always good to see the "back to basic"-drills.
This is a great practice and need to do more often. You two guys are awesome! A live lesson would be a bucket list check👍🏻👊🏻
Hope it helps Tony! One day maybe, we run constant competitions as part of our membership to win a live lesson so let us know if you’re interested in becoming a member👍
Great stuff men
Thanks Iain🙌
I would kill for a lesson with you two, I can hit the ball at the range with an iron but on the course I struggle, even with the best lie! Hopefully one day
What an amazing video !!!
My struggle is my inconsistent iron swing and my close to the green swing. How much power do you use and the same as the irons is just the inconsistent swing.
How much power for the short game shots?
@@jackmaylor8229 yes. When your 15 to 50 yards away.
@@danielpalmer5183 I feel its harder to change how quick you swing for each swing. Its easier to swing the same speed for every shot but dont swing back as far
great vid boys! a big struggle for me was figuring out how to load that left leg through impact... bending the left leg during back swing works for me but from being a hockey player to now wannabe golfer it was difficult to figure out how to make the transition
hockey player? get signed by the Canucks, then your golf season will start earlier in the year
Played golf with a few hockey players. They seem to transition to golf very well and are great ball strikers, more so than cricket batsmen
Trail arm extension at impact
VSAUCE! Michael Here!
I average 2-4 inches behind the ball but I’m super steep. I dig under the ball hitting very high on the face. I never hit low on the face or top
My problem is a hip stall and then I flip the club. That leads to inconsistent striking.
I struggle with head ups. Causing a lot of fat n thin shots. Would love to hear how to remove tht curse from you.
Morning Andy, was gonna come over and say hello this morning in the bar area . Unfortunately the baby girl was being a nuisance crying 🙈
When I use my right arm in the shot I dump it well behind the ball, should you just use your left arm to swing? It’s the only way I can get to strike past the line but am I losing power by not using my right arm in the shot?
min 4.34 teacher does it; nice to compare to student to see what needs to be honed; min 5.19 student try one; 5.53 student attempt two; notice how far he is off from teacher try; nice visuals.
No way is he a 31 handicap!!
Same as this guy I'm hitting so fat all the sudden... or its now wet and soft now and I'm struggling.
Hopefully you've found the video useful!
I honestly believe these two would sort Arsenal's back four out...if asked too 😄😄
😂😂
My thought is I'm trying to hit through the ball. Andy legs a little shaky leg day at the gym or too many 🍻😁
😂😂 I was all over the place in this video!
Easily my biggest struggle.
Hope this drill helps👍
tell him to take the tablet out of his left pocket lol
You gotta keep the shoulders square
I would have told him to set his wrists and really cup the right wrist. His wrists were very straight and stiff.
No Clif bars until Anti-American Rapinoe is gone. (It was an ad).
Nick so badly wants to bend the left arm. (I do this too.)
I thought the guy was wearing a mask and then I realised it was his beard 🤦♂️🤣
Eyes down, he’s looking for the ball.
Trying not to let the mismatched hats bugs me
I struggle from minute I pull into car park to moment I leave
What are you struggling with in particular Barrie?
I will some it up for you by saying all my clubs have training grips on and I am 41
At first glance no way that guy is a 31 hdcp. Not unless he 3 putts all the time 🤔🤔
His two sentences describe me quite closely
Take some instruction...lose the music.
That swing is definitely not a 31 handicap
My thoughts exactly lol
I agree.
Why would he not wear a hat? I couldn’t focus on the video because it was all I could think about.
He is moving his head way to far, give him a quick slap and he’ll quit that.
