- The Ferrari 599 GTO has alluded me to date, but no longer! Thanks to Dutton Garage in Christchurch, NZ, ahead of the Shmeeting they let me take the keys and go out for the a drive in the seriously special, limited Ferrari model that wears the GTO badge. Does it live up to expectations?
The 599 GTO launched around the time of my UA-cam channel getting started, and as such it was one of the most exciting cars to film in those early days. I remember when an owner once invited me to take a seat in his car and have a look at it in more detail like it was yesterday. Since then I have been lucky enough to drive many of my dream cars but the Ferrari 599 GTO is one that has not made it onto that list - until now!
Thanks to Dutton Garage NZ in Christchurch, that became a checked item on the bucket list. With an organised Shmeeting on the cards to meet and greet you guys, I arrived early when they invited me to then take the keys to a car of my choice for an experience out on the roads. Naturally this was the pick, so off I went!
This particular car being RHD makes it significantly rarer as Ferrari did not produce many, and then the choice of colour scheme just makes it even better.

Time to experience the mythical beast! Much to my surprise, Dutton Garage NZ allowed me the opportunity to drive their Ferrari 599 GTO, and guess what, it was just as exciting as I always hoped it would be!

I love these kind of videos, when you drive some of this "modern classics" with the same level of emotion that I would, not being a supercar owner and driving amazing cars on a daily basis!

That GTO sounded like it is in need of a service a valve adjustment, when you open the hood and even when you first got in you could hear the valves hitting.
there was definitely a metallic tick with the bonnet up, I wouldn't buy it with that noise

This would really be awesome though! Nice car to register in Germany, left hand drive ones can be found for "only" €500.000-€600.000,- :p. Can you imagine doing a road trip in a 599 GTO... I personally think it's a steal for that amount of money considering it is a limited production Ferrari. Cheapest limited production Ferrari you can buy probably? And the most monumental sound!

@Shmee150, I suppose you may know by now that these electro-actuated single clutched manual transmissions do not need to be placed in neutral while coming to a halt. In fact, while coming to a stop the system automatically disengages the clutch (in the GranTurismo at 8km/h) before you come to a standstill. The GranTurismo and the 599 use the same system (Sofast4) and disengage the clutch while coming to a halt but keep the gear in position. So no need to put the car in neutral and make the hydraullic pump work hard for nothing…
