    THANK YOU for the comments about supporting the childfree community in our decisions to be permanently sterilized before we have kids at an early age. I fought for 2 years to get it at my old OBGYN and was never taken seriously until I found the Reddit list. March of 2022 I finally got my bi salp and I've continued loving the childfree life ever since!

    Had 3 IUDs in my life. #1 - OUCH. #2 - (post-cesarean) felt nothing. #3 - (also post-cesarean, so I was expecting no pain) OUCH. Everyone’s different, and individuals vary from experience to experience.

    This was very informative thank you! A red flag for me now that I know this, is when a doctor refuses to give you pain medication for an IUD insertion. I was told it's not necessary and would negativey interfere with the procedure. I still to this day hate that I didn't ask why they thought something as simple as Ibuprofen would negatively impact getting an IUD. I think a red flag to also talk about is doing anything without consent and/or explaining what will happen during a procedure before it happens. I absolutely hate when someone just touches without asking first or explaining why it must happen. I had a doctor very aggressively pull up my shirt and bra without warning or explanation to "do a breast exam" I'm 100% positive it was just the doctor groping me, because it was just so unprofessional and didn't appear to follow any of the charts that one can find on the internet to see how a doctor will perform the exam. Another red flag is the pelvic exams done without consent under anesthesia, but this may be only at teaching hospitals. I would like to know if it's possible to find out more about this topic and how to prevent that from happening. I did have a minor surgery done at a teaching hospital before I knew this could happen, and would also like to know if there is a way to find out if medical students performed an exam on me without my consent because I was never asked if medical students could attend the surgery or not, and I've read (from people's personal experiences), that often they do not ask and these patients found out much later that that happened.

    My first OBGYN was also my mums OBGYN and when I started to have problems after sex, pain during or after or with peeing after he belittled my concerns. These problems eventually resulted in huge kidney infection when I ended up at ICU while being on holiday in Greece. I felt so betrayed I didn´t go to OBGYN for almost 4 years (In Czechia you are supposed to go to OBGYN annualy). After my friend recommended me her doc and I went to him. He is the best person, I feel I can tell him anything without being judged he never belittle my concerns and he is a good listener and "psychologist" too.

    My gyno told me at 42 I was too old to get my tubes removed. She said as long as I stay faithful to my husband I wouldn’t get pregnant. I was in shock. I went to her because I’m nervous of reattachment with my husbands vasectomy. I explained my fear to her and she said he can get tested. Also I told her that it literally hurts when I have sex with my husband in one certain position. She told me just don’t do it in that position. I was pissed. I’m seeing Dr. Tang this month. I can’t wait to get answers.

      This is funny, because so many women get told they're too young to get it all the way up to 35-40, and then the switch flips and suddenly they're "too old"! So infuriating.

    As someone who has/had vaginismus THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for validating pain with sex. And mentioning that there are TREATMENTS that actually WORK. I could never even use a tampon and my best friend growing up was the same way so neither of us had any indication it wasn’t normal! Fast forward and she (straight) and I (lesbian) start being more active and both of us are in pain and thankfully eventually realize that it’s not normal!
    We both went to PT and have had PAIN FREE INTERCOURSE since (though still no luck with pelvic exams so if you make a video about options for comfort etc I’d love to see it), it did take looking beyond the “usual” treatments, and me finding a paper out of Iran that showed regular non-sexual massage with a partner was just as/more effective than PT/dialators and really amazing when used in combination! I think it’s because it treats the physiological root of whatever nervous system reaction causes it but of course there’s been extremely little research into vaginismus and what is out there is very “it’s all in her head” so that’s a guess…. Now if only I could get a massage before having a pelvic exam maybe I could finally have access to full sexual healthcare….

    Hi I'm a newer subscriber in my 40s and I learned of you from Tee Noir's channel. I just want to say you are wonderful. This is a weird connection (hold my hand as we traipse thru my ADD brain) but I listen to and watch a lot of K-pop on UA-cam. In doing that myself and many other older fans get into conversations somehow with many younger girls and women, many from other countries that have so many questions about their bodies, periods, puberty, and everything else under the sun. The most recent one I had was with an 11 yr old having menstrual cramping so strong she couldn't concentrate on her homework. She'd ask her father for Midol but he would only give her 1 pill b/c it said on the bottle you had to be 12 to take two. If she asked for another he makes her do chores and tells her it will help her toughen up. Now she's cramping, sweeping, and still has homework to do, right? I explained that a better gauge for medicine is her weight and to tell her father that. But I also told her to tell any woman she knew and trusted what was happening and have them decide how much, teach her how to take it, and then buy her a generic bottle from the grocery store for her own. It's ridiculous out here! And young girls around the world are asking for help. I will be recommending your channel from now on in every conversation.
    Thank you for everything you do!🤗

    • @sarahnelson8836
      @sarahnelson8836 Рік тому +2

      NO she needs to see a doctor! That’s really not normal at all she likely has endometriosis if she has really strong cramping and if untreated it could grow exponentially, she likely needs hormonal BC at the least to stop growth! It could lead to her having endo tissue on multiple organs and needing partial removal or multiple surgeries! Definitely encourage her to tell her doctor as well as women close to her, in many places this is written off but endometriosis can be very serious if left untreated and god forbid it could be something worse or more aggressive as well. Try not to alarm her because she’s a child but encourage her to self advocate to her healthcare provider for better pain management and let her know that it could be endometriosis so she has that on her radar as she gets older and is hopefully allowed to make more of her own decisions

    I actually have a question.
    My obgyn told me that they wouldn't do a pap on me because I wasn't old enough. I was 19 at the time, I am 20 now. They also *did not* do a blood pregnancy test after I told them I was having unprotected sex before putting in an IUD and caused me to have a miscarriage because I didn't know I was pregnant. The miscarriage happened a month after I got the IUD and I was absolutely crushed. I never would have gotten it if I knew I was pregnant. (I'm not against abortion, but I felt like that choice was taken away from me and my partner)

    Good info, Dr. Lincoln, as usual. Actually, I did get some mild pushback from the urologist when I wanted a vasectomy (this was back in the Paleolithic, 1975-1976-ish), but that pushback, even now, seems more the exception than the rule. I think you're spot-on about males rarely being being criticized for their reproductive choices. Roughly half a century later, I've had no issues or side effects.

    I “ran away” from a male gynecologist told me that my severe menstrual cramps were normal, part of being a woman and that women were in tune with nature and he wished he was a woman. Yeah. I just sat there thinking this man is nuts and dangerous I’m getting out of here and going straight to a women’s center for an ob gyn recommendation.
    I don’t think it’s normal to have pain so bad you’re throwing up and having diarrhea at the same time. Neither did my next doctor thankfully. She was great.

    I am deeply concern about state of gynecology in Czechia because doctors and society pursue women to undergo PAP annualy while the guidelines are totally different in any other developed countries. We do have annual PAP (unfortunately only half of women go there). What concerns me more is insurance covers only basic cytology which has false negativity about 30 to 40%. Also many women dont know you should go for HPV testing every 3 to 5 years. I have many cases around me when woman has always clear cytology but when her doc startred to offer LBC Thin Prep it founded abnormal cells and she need further treatment.
    Nobody seems to understand that maybe if the interval wont be annualy actually more women would come because they don't like the PAP and how it is done. I am frustrated when talking with doctors and they refusing to see the facts and insist on annual cytology. Despite having annual PAP we have more cases and deaths of cervical cancer than other countries where they use LBC Thin prep and have longer intervals. I am not a doctor but I am deeply interested in medical law and advocacy for better care for patients. :(

    • @sarahnelson8836
      @sarahnelson8836 Рік тому

      Yes definitely get a second opinion, there are reasons to take pain medication as management (ie everyday) but having an IUD in is definitely not on that list…. I’m not a doctor so I’m not sure exactly when it should stop or when to be concerned but my friend had a VERY painful insertion of a copper IUD and she had decreasing pain everyday after for a few days. Generally after any procedure pain has a peak and then wanes afterwards (for wisdom teeth the peak is the day after because swelling) pain staying stable or increasing after the expected peak is definitely cause for them to at least look at you again! Bottom line you shouldn’t have to live in pain please go find someone who will actually help you. We are rooting for you!

    When I first got my IUD, the OB-GYN told me it probably wouldn’t work because I was small. The ultrasound confirmed I could get the IUD per the tech. Years later before the removal date, I would have to get it removed as it was nearly falling out. I was randomly given that OB-Gyn for my iud insertion when making a phone appointment and I would never recommend her again. Literally, judged me for being short.

    Just to clarify, its still ok for your regular OBGYN to run day 3 hormone panels and AMH levels if say, you have a long wait to see a fertility doc and want to get some of the workup out of tje way?

    • @sarahnelson8836
      @sarahnelson8836 Рік тому

      Probably 🤷🏼‍♀️ she was talking about people who are blaming hormones for things without data and recommending unresearched “treatments” if a hormone panel is the recommended next step for your condition then it’s probably fine for them to order it. (Side note always get the sperm count done too, too often we automatically blame the woman for infertility when sperm count issues account for I think over half of cases these days (especially with men keeping the laptop on the lap or using recreational drugs etc))

    I think we need pelvic exams every year, right? Our health insurance only allows pelvic exams with pap smear, so once every 3 years. Unless you have a problem, you can only see your GYN every 3 years--no annual breast exams, either. And when there is a problem, you might even get to see your own doctor, just whoever is available at the clinic.

    • @devonterry9983
      @devonterry9983 8 місяців тому

      Pelvic exams aren't recommended annually anymore (there's a bit of discourse between doctors but ACOG and ACS have both updated their guidelines to this) unless there's something specifically indicating it (pain, weird bleeding, infection, incontinence, ect.) I believe several studies found that pelvic exams too often can lead to false positives and unnecessary follow-up testing. Paps should be done regularly every 3-5 years though.
